Swollen Pickles uploaded an extended highlights package of Keating addressing the National Press Club last week. At around the nine minute mark he's asked about the Chinese treatment of Uyghurs and Keating says the Chinese Government could ask the same question about Aboriginal deaths in custody and adds "wouldn't that be a valid point" He then goes on to say "Great power diplomacy can not be about reaching down into the low social entrails of these states any more than they can with us" Do you think this is valid?

Keatings on the pay roll for the CCP.

I doubt he'd need the money.
keating is the ultimate ccp fan boy. he was one of the main people involved in starting the mass sell of Australian assets to china & destroyed the manufacturing industry. easily the worst ministers Australian has seen all though Chris Bowen is giving him a run for his money

Had no idea there were so many military experts on BF.
There are a few of ex-service types on here (a long time ago in my case!)

I think you'll find the United States and United Kingdom are the biggest foreign investors in Australia

China didn't make the top 5 last year IIRC. Canada, Singapore & Japan are all significant investors in Australia as well.
US is miles in front of anywhere else

cucked over tax cuts and zero understanding of basic globalization and economics
i mean Australia is competing with many low tax paying countries and far lower wage paying countries right to keep business and jobs!
old Paul sold those jobs off?

What none of you get is that japan has soooooooo much less coastline to defend.

A nuc boat can do 2000 km in 48 hours silently. That means a boat harboured at garden island can be addressing a threat detected north of australia before it gets here.

A diesel electric cant do that.

A diesel electric has to wait in front of its opponents, if they change course however, a diesel electric loses that target and cant catch up.

What the hell are you talking about? This makes no sense whatsoever, particularly the bolded.

He is referring to diesel submarines sitting idle, remaining silent on battery power in wait for another vessel to wander into its range. If said diesel submarine need to change positions for whatever reason, it requires the diesel power unit to operate which generates a lot of noise. This contrasts with a nuclear submarine which is not quite as quiet as a diesel submarine on battery but significantly quieter than one operating on engine. Hope this helps.

I cannot emphasise enough how wrong everything you just said is.

lol
he is obsessed with batteries atm and have zero idea
there is a reason why the USA, CHina, russia etc countries with the most powerful navies have nuclear subs not diesel

Chinas submarine fleet includes BOTH nuclear AND diesel electric boats (as well as air independent propulsion subs):

Total Submarines in Fleet: 56

  • Ballistic Missile Submarines (SSBNs): 6
  • Nuclear-powered attack submarines (SSNs): 6
  • Diesel-electric attack submarines (SSKs): 44
  • Air-independent propulsion (AIP) enabled: 17/44
Russia also has both a nuclear powered and diesel fleet:

Total Submarines in Fleet: 58

  • Ballistic Missile Submarines (SSBNs): 11
  • Nuclear-Powered attack submarines (SSNs): 17
  • Nuclear-powered cruise missile submarines (SSGNs): 9
  • Diesel-electric attack submarines (SSKs): 21

LOL indeed.
