Up there for sure even his purple patch he's averaged bang on his career over the year, Ideally it's a Green for Marsh swap soon, with Head shifting down to 6. Green at 4/5.

green will never make it at 4/5 has had 43 bats at test level and avgs 36 that's him. He is 26 and has found his level. imo he has to be that bowling all rounder which he is dam good at.

He has batted one year in his real position and was showing great signs before this injury he’s not a no6

That was the 43 innings comparison. At the same age as Green, Steve Waugh had 2166 runs at 36.1.

Not saying he will be as good (of course), but 26 is bloody young in batting terms.

Are we saying this like 26 is old? Can green is not perfect but he is the technique and the temperament to be a long term number 4. Think with time we would see his numbers reflect that.

Listen, different sport I know, but speaking of playing out of position, a 21yo Suaalii went alright for the wallabies at truckers on the weekend. Sometimes you just need to let a youngster have a go - if not now, when?

Forty years since the last Grand Slam, Scotland and Wales look gettable and Ireland got done on the weekend too. Dare we dream?

I’ll dare after Scots, but it’s a nice dream to be considering. It would be nice if only to laugh at Campo

Remember when Alan Jones picked Brian Smith at half back over Ricky Stuart and Farr-Jones because he had a crush on him.

good point mate, hows dan cullen going now days? scott muller? nothing quite like quoting a player from 34 years ago and 200 players between that have played almost like you have to base it on player to player?

maybe we can see if matthew elliott wants a call up ? bit early to write him off hey

You wait til people find out about Kerry Packer's role in the career of Steve Waugh. The site would have crashed when he first got picked for Australia.

Remember when Richie asked whoa whoa whoa what is he good for. Reckon he ate those words 10 years down the line.

U mad joe?

Absolutely, that is a great approach and one I can fully get on board with

Except that after Mitch was dropped in 2018, he then played the grand total of 6 first class games in 5 years before returning to the test side in 2023. The guy batted 11 times at first class level in 5 years. He didn't demonstrate shit
Good point and I agree, he should never have been recalled to the Ashes squad. But he was, and the results were frankly startling.

I can only think that maybe batting at three in white ball cricket helped him tighten his technique against quality pace bowling. Seems like he's got more confidence and more of a plan against quality pace, and understands how to pace an innings better now. I'm surprised at how well it's translated to test results so far, but I'm not complaining.

I was dead against picking him in the Ashes squad and complained bitterly when he got a hame. But with his body of work since returning, I'm happy to back him in at six for the summer and I reckon he'll keep doing well.

Gifted runs at headingley

Dude.

Came in at 4/85, before lunch on the first day. Made a run a ball 118 when nobody else made it to 40.

But yeah, gifted runs....
Yes, gifted runs by one eyed captaincy. England had focused and targeted bowling plans for the established aus top order but nothing for anyone else. We didn’t know how to stop him hitting out, just continued putting the ball on a plate for him.

For the record bairstows 99 at old Trafford was also gifted runs.

Don’t care, it shouldn’t be a choice.
He would if he was told to anyway.
Of course he would do it and I’ve already stated that he would. Up until a few months ago that was the plan too.
I’d bet you would be the first calling for him to be dropped from the team though if he fails this series opening though
