Alan Jones very worked up, outraged, about the reaction and penalty given to smith. I think he's offended by the reactions on social media, and he said even prime minister malcolm turnbull got involved. Exasperated he gasped "MALCOLM TURNBULL"!!

Wonder if abbott said the same thing hed be as mad

Is he mates with smith?

Who listens to what that evil repressed little goblin has to say?

My point is do not admit to cheating no matter what is on footage is (I know it is wrong), but no other player I can think of has ever admitted to cheating, ball tampering after/during a match, bottom line is for being so honest it has backfired badly. Let the ICC deal with it and we all move on.
Plenty of players have fessed up to messing around with the seam of the ball though, but clarified it by saying that they were cleaning dirt off it and not picking at it. I think the honesty in the presser is comparable to that.

I feel for Bancroft. He should never have been in that situation.
Maybe he put himself in that situation.
What about the sugar in his pockets during the 5th Ashes test or respected Cricket person Mike Coward saying on radio that Bancroft has a reputation in SS circles for ball tampering. I don’t think he is as innocent as he proclaims. I still think the penalties are too much though

Warner had 48 hours to write a heart felt apology. What he wrote was fluff. He has thrown his captain under a bus as well as a younger player and shown no remorse for it. "He also mentions he is spending time with his trusted advisors. Too bad he did not speak to his trusted advisor provided by CA in Lehmann when deciding to tamper with the ball. The guy only cares about himself

I haven't heard that. Do you have a link?

The sugar was found to be PK gum.

alan jones should be more worried about other things.

Warner should cop everything - sadly Bancroft and Smith are suffering as a result

I can't imagine they'd be too happy with Warner dropping them in the shit like this but they both had the opportunity to stop it going ahead and not partake.

Way too harsh penalties. The ICC punishments would have been fair enough plus some more fines and stripping of leadership duties would have sufficed. All three of them need to appeal

the ACA have finally come up with a response, agreeing with most of what people in cricket circles are thinking.

http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_...s-association-questions-severity-ca-sanctions

"a number of glaring and clear anomalies in the process to date which causes the ACA to query the severity and proportionality of the proposed sanctions."

As much as I'd like to blame Warner the poorly handled press conference was probably the worst part of the whole thing and who knows whose idea that was.

I think we all agree ball tampering has been in the game forever, It's my belief if Smith and Bancroft had not admitted to cheating a the presser it would have been ICC problem and Bancroft would have been cited for ball tampering the same as Du Plessis and others . Cricket Australia would not have been involved therefore no sanctions, Bancroft might have been given one match and Smith & Co wrapped over the knuckles, but to be given 12 months suspension for something every team does is a little over the top. So by telling the truth and being honest has certainly backfired with these guys.
To quote Chopper Read "never plead guilty"
Honesty is a poor policy
