This is when I'm going to be political. We have had the Australian flag since federation therefore I believe we need to keep the flag. we need to keep our nood to our foundered the British hence why we need to keep our current flag. For 117 years it's been our flag and we need to keep it. As for Australia Day, we need to keep the day because we are celebrating Australia being discovered by Captain James Cook not federation or just another random day. I respect the indigenous peoples views but we need just continue to celebrate our great country. We can't change history so what good will it do.
Heaps of Commonwealth countries have originally had flags with the Union Jack in the corner but remained in the commonwealth, two I can think of right now are Malta and Canada.

Screw our colonial oppressors. The union jack has to go if we want to establish our own identity as a nation. Our flag should represent who we are- the current flag does not and should be changed.

I would of thought the colours of the Olympic rings would work well with the our diverse multiculturalism. John Bartholomew 1992 - winning design in Adelaide Advertiser flag competition shown below, but perhaps white flag replacing the Union Jack with the Aboriginal Flag with the stars as the colours of the rings to also represent the migrants who built the country.

This sounds like an issue I would get in NationStates.

(Welcome back, long time no see)
They mean well, but like the screenshot says, the designer of the Aboriginal flag does not want the flag used in any capacity for national use. Not even as a recolour or edit.

Lighten up, sourpuss. Stop trying to get likes by degrading harmless posts.
You've taken this the wrong way. This discussion is actually interesting as I have no 'established' knowledge and would like to read what the opinions are of posters who are fairly knowledgeable.

My favourite design is the Golden Wattle, it's probably the only flag I've seen that can use only green and gold in a good way.
This link has a few slides that show that it follows the five basic principles of flag design (which are linked within this link)

The website doesn't do much to support the design but it is genuinely brilliant.
