Taking Dutton’s arguments around nuclear in good faith is the wrong approach.

Dutton did his apprenticeship under Abbott. Like his mentor, he is a highly effective attack dog & destroyer in opposition. He will be fecking useless if given the reins as PM and asked to actually fix any of our problems or build anything worthwhile.

I can’t recall him ever articulating a single coherent policy or idea for how or where he wants to take the country forward.

His politics follow 3 key principles only:
  1. Distraction
  2. Division
  3. Stoking prejudice, fear and anxiety
Let’s look at his announcements this week.

Nuclear? That’s #1 - if he can distract people from the transition to renewables and delay the inevitable progress on this, he can keep more expensive, inefficient and increasingly unreliable coal power running in this country for longer. That is his sole aim with all of this. He doesn’t give a sh*t whether nuclear is actually viable or not. He just wants us to spend the next decade debating it.

Not standing in front of an Aboriginal flag? That’s the trifecta #1, 2 and 3 - instead of people getting angry at the true causes of their financial hardship and stress, let’s get them wound up about a minority group instead. Let’s also drop this comment no-one asked for solving a problem that doesn’t exist or impact anyone in a week where my energy policy is getting torn to shreds, and divert attention from that too.

If he ever should assume the position of PM, he will be the worst ever and that takes some doing given Billy McMahon is probably the worst ever.

As I said, Dutton has been a dud in every portfolio he has ever touched. Worst Health Minister, worst Immigration Minister and so it goes on.

Yes, Nuclear is a trojan horse & it's unbelievable how many gullible people are actually taking it seriously.

Dutton has admitted he is doing nothing to help the energy market for decades & assuming no growth in demand lol, so he won't be doing anything in his potential term to address any current energy problems. Absolutely nothing to address prices or extra supply.

LOL

Cwissy Bowen has massively ****ed up every portfolio he has ever touched, Dutton is a genius compared to that little weasel.

Your opinion only. Thanks.

I see Kevin Andrews has died of cancer. The instigator of Work Choices and he instigated the Euthanasia laws act for the Territories plus a host of other things. Will leave it at that.

Whatever you think of nuclear, is this a smart move politically by Dutton?

It seems to me he’s a big chance of winning just by default, because of how horrific the current mob in charge are.

All he has to do is not f*ck up politically, but on the evidence so far, he enjoys f*cking up quite a lot.
There are some very fundamental flaws in the modelling, but imo it doesn't really matter. If he can spin it right, most people don't care what 'net present value' means and they'll just eat up the headlines.

IMO he's already got the win and the nuclear thing will never eventuate (cos it makes no sense on more than a cost front). It's likely a political move in the short term to squeeze the Teals in some way.

It's all about extending the life of the coal generators, and (by extension) the coal mining industry. Nevermind that the coal generators are already uneconomical, expensive to maintain, and are constantly breaking down.

Exactly!

This is about more coal at the expense of renewables by adding more uncertainty... which impacts on investment.

It's like their no energy policy for best part of a decade.

Nuclear does absolutely nothing to help anything for decades & absolutely nothing to help the current energy supply or prices.

The reality is we are dealing with a transition to renewables with gas. Ideally more investment in battery storage. Imagine if we spent some of the Liberals $330B on battery storage... which would actually be useful for the now.

Rubbish, having to extend the life of the coal fired power stations is all down to the ALP and the mental midget Cwissy Bowen's totally stuffing up.

The fact NSW ALP Premier Chris Minns has already got on the front foot extending the life of the Eraring Coal powered unit immediately tells everyone with half an active brain cell that Bowen's supposed energy transition is a balls up.

Kudos to Minns for having the brain cells meathead Bowen obviously lacks. Also in Minns favour he doesn't come across as a half smart little twerp like Bowen more a reasoned intelligent operator across his role as Premier of the largest populous state and it's requirements.

What is the coalition solution for the now Bicks, given Nuclear won't impact for decades?

I haven't seen anything... bit like their no energy plan when they were in power.

Don't get me wrong, we all want a smoother transition & have the energy needs we require, but what has Dutton proposed that will help the now.

No idea, as I'm over the Trump stuff, so prefer to leave it to others.

Don't believe anyone wants to have the situation where we don't have enough energy needs.

We need solutions for the now & next decade, not kicking the can down the road.

Duh

Labor have a plan for the now?

Chris Minns has belled the cat in that regard.

Why would the Libs have any different plan for the now than Labor which is keep burning more and more of that dastardly fossil fuel GAS in the interim and very likely wreak every last Mw out of the coal powered units that have been allowed to be run down maintenance wise the last 3 years under Bowen.

All I know is ideal ology, votes and no idea have taken over the debate. We are a massive resource rich country and everyone but us is getting the advantages. All political parties guilty. The green scam needs more of a blowtorch applied to it.

Coal is going to be transitioned out regardless of your love of it Bicks. You need to let it go as will only be used for the short term.

Gas will fill the gap to renewables & we have oodles of it. The issue is why do we pay more than for what we charge to export it?

The current policy allows for more certainty for investment compared to what was happening previously under the coalition where the lack of investment was due their no policy. This is a big reason why we are in a bit of a mess now as playing catch up.

The energy experts have noted Dutton's Nuclear policy will only cause more investment uncertainty in the short to medium term... which is of course what he is wanting to disrupt the growth in renewables.

What's this green scam?

You taking about the Greens party or you think renewables are a scam?

The Green party definitely.
Renewables are required in some form but are subsidized so heavily and fossil fuel are sold off the foreign entities to be sold back at inflated prices.
Improving fossil fuel technology is discouraged even though the by products are required in all our everyday life.
Cow farts are now destroying our environment it appears. Nuclear is being deliberately discouraged, even sensible conversations.

Who makes the most out of climate change?

Fossil fuel industry has been subsidised more than renewables.

Also, how about the pathetic tax the mining magnates pay, compared to smart countries like Norway?

How can governments allow us to pay more locally for gas that the price charges for exports?

These last 2 are what I would call scams!

The sensible Nuclear discussion left the building years ago as it's not a viable option.

Norway's by far major source of power is hydropower 90% so using them as smart country is laughable...geographically and topographically we don't have that option as a the major source of our RENEWABLES.

Edit

Tasmania is the only state topographically suitable for major hydro hence why it's their major source.
