Taking Dutton’s arguments around nuclear in good faith is the wrong approach.
Dutton did his apprenticeship under Abbott. Like his mentor, he is a highly effective attack dog & destroyer in opposition. He will be fecking useless if given the reins as PM and asked to actually fix any of our problems or build anything worthwhile.
I can’t recall him ever articulating a single coherent policy or idea for how or where he wants to take the country forward.
His politics follow 3 key principles only:
Nuclear? That’s #1 - if he can distract people from the transition to renewables and delay the inevitable progress on this, he can keep more expensive, inefficient and increasingly unreliable coal power running in this country for longer. That is his sole aim with all of this. He doesn’t give a sh*t whether nuclear is actually viable or not. He just wants us to spend the next decade debating it.
Not standing in front of an Aboriginal flag? That’s the trifecta #1, 2 and 3 - instead of people getting angry at the true causes of their financial hardship and stress, let’s get them wound up about a minority group instead. Let’s also drop this comment no-one asked for solving a problem that doesn’t exist or impact anyone in a week where my energy policy is getting torn to shreds, and divert attention from that too.

- Division
- Stoking prejudice, fear and anxiety
