It would be a good start because nothing positive will happen until then.

It would certainly be a step towards peace. But so would Israel retreating back to its own land. The more they keep bombing GAZA and the more damage to women and children, the more provoked and heightened it all becomes. It takes two to tango.

Most Australians get it...

Nuclear will work. The problem is that we need improved electricity now hence Nuclear isnt the answer. Its possibly an answer we can plan for long term 25 30 years from now if we want to invest in it.

What needs to happen is which ever government is elected regardless of which ever side of politics, must spend the billions re establishing our electricity grid to be not only affordable but operational.

And if they were released, nothing would be done about a two state solution.

You see where this is going if that path is taken? Nowhere but Israel will have got what it wanted without conceding a thing. Sometimes you actually have to negotiate - you don’t always get 100% of what you want in life.

So what will end up happening is the remaining hostages will probably end up dying.

Given you were in business, surely you know about the art of negotiating and it doesn’t mean you get everything you want.

Israel ain’t going to concede anything at all - if they were serious they would but Netanyahu isn’t interested at all in negotiating, its only his way.

Most SMH readers get it...THE LEFT

LOL
Ken Enderby from Concord LOL

Getting desperate when you post links to SMH readers letters Kano....even you should know the SMH is a lefty publication, yet you sling off at Rupert and Newscorp.

Maybe I should start posting readers letters to the Hun and Addy too.

Why are the hostages families so annoyed at the Israeli government, protesting regularly... because they know the government would prefer to obliterate the Palestinians than negotiate to release the hostages.

Hamas gave the Israeli government an excuse to instil maximum hurt...

Once again you just dish the source of an article without even bothering to discuss the actual issues, as you are incapable of doing so.

Nuclear won't do anything to help us for decades... the important issue is how do we replace the decommissioned coal power stations.

Everything else is white noise.

He has learned this style of debate from the deplorables in the thread that shall remain unnamed

A self anointed climate zealot ëggspurt like ole Kenny boi...

And it's not an article with any credence it's in the letters to the editor..

I'll keep my eye on the SMH letters to the editor half expecting one from that Kane McGoodwin fella...

Or maybe checkout this fella Peter Kamenyitzky, Castle Hill, a regular contributor to the SMH letters to the editor, guess what subject?

Maybe checkout Douglas McKenzie, ACT, a very prolific letters to the editor writer and not only the SMH, he can be found on plenty of the mainstream media letters to the editor, guess what subject? I'll help you out "Peter Dutton" "Peter Dutton"etc etc.

Once again you fail to discuss the key issue.

How is Australia going to replace the mothballed coal power stations over the next decade or so? The owners of them have said they can't be kept open til Nuclear is available & have other plans.

The next decade or so needs to be addressed first, rather than prioritising in over 20 years time!

No, they both need to be addressed simultaneously. The endpoint has to be decided, and then, immediately, how to get there. This is not the same as deciding how to survive the next few years, and then worry about the endpoint.

Determining how to replaced the to be mothballed coal power stations is a now issue.

Agree there needs to be a complete roadmap, but the next decade is most important, then the following decade, etc.

It's silly to prioritise 20+ years time, without considering the short & medium term issues.

Now the more interesting thing is the technology for renewables, batteries and storage will continue to develop (just look how far will come over the last decade) however the same can’t be said for nuclear to the same degree.

As we have kept saying, nuclear could have been the answer a decade ago but the lack of energy policy by successive coalition governments has seen where we are today.

Someone on here is totally oblivious to that simple fact.

Nuclear isn’t the answer now - as per usual the Coalition government is just kicking the can down the road, just like it did for 9 years.

End of story.

If by some very remote chance it did happen, the taxpayers would foot the bill of construction and then the Coalition would sell them off and privatise to their business mates. It is in their DNA.

To quote the lines from two old Peter, Paul and Mary hit songs from yesteryear seems applicable in SA this morning....🤣

"The answer my friend is blowin' in the wind"

"Puff the magic Dragon lived by the sea"

Good old Victorian dirty brown coal and the "cleaner" NSW black coal keeping the lights on in SA on a day where the SA "climate" looks very very temperate ..

This is where we differ, I don't think technological advances in rewnewables can generate 100% of our requirements 100% of the time.

My PV panels are 180W and are ready to be replaced after 14 years, nowadays the norm are 440W panels.

Storage is and always will be the Achilles heel with renewables.

Batteries aren't going to get 10 times more efficient and 10 times cheaper in the next couple of decades.

As you said nuclear should have been started 10+ years ago, I think even starting now it would still have a part to play to get us off fossil fuels.

We are only going to get more energy hungry once we all have EVs and we require more heating and cooling.

And population growth and more power hungry AI hence why Gates, Bezos etc are already thinking ahead, hopefully the ALP are serious about seriously curtailing overseas immigration from their 2023 (536,000) and 2024 (446,000) numbers because you don't need to be Einstein to work out our current and for the forseeable future housing, health. infrastructure systems etc cannot take anymore strain, already struggling coping.

Just your opinion again, More Lefty propaganda and misinformation to lead the sheep.

Dr Ari Patterson the former Head of Australia’s Nuclear Science and technology Organisation for 11 years
now CEO of Pebble Bed modular reactor has stated that by 2045 the advancement in Nuclear science is such
that all energy needs can possibly be met by re processing of stored nuclear waste !

Maybe/Maybe not, but the French are already doing it and developing so to indicate that there is limited advancement in Nuclear science and Technology is Tripe.

It's a question we need the answers to as to how we replace the mothballed coal power stations.

How much can be taken up by renewables, batteries & improved technologies... as opposed to how much needs to be topped up by Gas or other sources?

There really should be a detailed plan.

I note at 10.40AM SA still not meeting local demand though small solar kicking in is helping big time....wind contributing sweet f*** all 67 MW...might be enough to keep the dunny light on.. 🤣
Yes, it's hilarious Bicks...

It's not like you haven't made the same point thousands of times.

No one has claimed renewables are going to meet our current needs 100% of the time.
