Review Autopsy of the Hawthorn Game Round 12

I was at the game and it just made me realise how far off the pace the Eagles are, couldn't keep up with the undermanned Hawthorne, positive Turbo Mcgovern !

Vs Norf 14 touches
Vs Collingwood 21 touches
Bye
Vs GWS 18 touches
Dropped
Vs Carlton 13 touches
Vs Port 13 touches

Apart from the Collingwood game he's been shite for 2 months now
Might aswell drop him then, Whats the point of playing him as a sub when our midfield is struggling?

Pros:

McGovern looked the goods (mind you he looked OK against Carlton, then they subbed him out and banished him back to the WAFL)
Naitanui on the improve
I doubt McKenzie and Darling can play that badly again.
Hutchings tried hard all day, lacks polish but not effort
SAS bomb disposal squad will be visiting Subiaco Oval to remove landmines that run through the middle of the ground. This will allow players to enter that part of the field for the first time in weeks and hopefully this will flow into games.
Gave Brendan Bolton an easy 2nd game up by playing a stilted, go wide on all occasions game plan that an under 10's coach would not employ. Too kind to the new boy.

Cons:

Early on, when we were crucified by the umpires, we were good, once the umpires evened out we fell away. Figure that!
Gaff's stats will fool some people into thinking he played OK. Was left untagged for most of the game and basically ran way from contests in the hope he'd get an easy kick. Kicked it oob about 3 times and on one occasion basically let a Hawthorn player run down the the wing while running about 10 metres parallel, no effort to actually put presuure on, and a goal resulted.
Skill level diabolical. On about half a dozen occasions we manufactured an overlap which should have resulted in an easy goal only to hand the ball back to Hawthorn who then kicked a goal of their own on the rebound.
Having a loose defender from the start of the 3rd quarter even though we had a 3 goal breeze and needed to get back into the game. Hawks defenders could not believe their luck as they had probably prepared themselves for an Eagle onslaught.

Get the feeling if College and Tunbridge weren't injured, and Sheed hadn't of played Monday he might have.

Thank you. My sentiments exactly on Gaffs game.

sinlcair kicked 6 today and was dominate around the ground, lycett was similar last week i think coxys days are numbered. getting tired of seeing him not compete when hes resting forward and then the ball just go running back out with his man because he has his back turned complaining for a free kick.

id also like to see mcginnity come in as a defensive half forward, offer some mongrel and keep the ball locked in there.

our mids are weak as piss though and i cant see where the future is coming from as all the ones in waiting are of the same mould

biggest concern is the actual game we play, we seem to be competitive for a half then get blown away because we are out of gas. i dont like how when we have the ball everyone pushes forward so far including our backs. how often do you see the oppo get out the back to easy transition goals with about 4 or 5 eagles chasing ass. this must tire them out incredibly quick. its like they are doing repeat 100m sprints.

you could see today how well roughy did having space to operate. we have some good size forwards that are quick and would dominate if they had the space running onto long kicks

instead its like every player bunches up so much that nothing more than a crappy little 20m lead is the only option, resulting in skill errors or way too many hot-potato handballs once the ball hits the deck. or a quick snap out of congestion to the oppos spare man in defence. which every club does against us now because its all they need to do and we never change our game plan mid-match.

hating the game plan looks like shiiite when you watch it live.

Unfortunately sums up our midfield

Today I've been able directly compare and contrast the current West Coast 2014 season with having a wisdom tooth extracted.

At least for one of them anesthetic is provided & any pain is short lived, not lingering in some kind of disappointing irrelevance.

Intruder alert.

Of course I am happy my team won, but I was expecting that your lot was going to come out and really push the game to the wire. Really expected the Eagles to run out breathing fire and stuff. I hope you don't mind me asking but what the hell is going on? I've not watched your team a whole lot, but I did watch a few games early and was a excited by your prospects (to help keep Geelong and Sydney out of the top 4). It's like something came through and wasted the team's confidence.

We're not actually particularly good.

But we can beat up on weak teams as well as anyone else

Indeed.

I made the comment because my mate, married 15 years and dead inside, messaged me with "who is the hottie in the coaches box".

I didn't notice. I hadn't noticed. I live in Thailand :p

You had a good win. You should be happy.
So please don't come on our board with your back handed comments.
We expected the same resolve but AGAIN were given short shrift from our team
So I hope you don't mind me telling you to just #*^% off and enjoy your success with out rubbing salt into the wound.

I'd like to know who is doing these 'best' columns every ******* week.

They're the kind of people we, as fans, are supposed, by some, to see as authorities. It really does show in this instance, and generally speaking, that many a journo and former-players-cum-commentators are incompetent at their job. This kind of shit occurs weekly throughout the football season, year on end. Sports journalism in this country is mostly shite. And the networks have to do a better job in their selection process of sports commentators by ceasing to gift former players commentary gigs without them proving a talent for it.

Yep agree. Both Sinkers and Lycett deserve to be in the 22 on current form. Both having blinders today for the Royals. Sadly, Cox is not doing enough these days.

Yes you are right. We went in yesterday with a CHF (Gov) at last ( is that where he played). Fantastic 10 marks and a serious target. But why couldn't we also have had a FF. Who was the FF? We need to see next week Gov and CHF and a FF ffs. Cox should go he is not strong enough these days to have a presence. We also do not get enough value out of NN's ruckwork. Maybe he is misused. Cox and NN had 3 marks each yesterday and 1 goal between them. Meanwhile the opposing FF had 8 goals. When will our coaches learn that we need a big mobile CHF and a big bodied FF. You actually need both. Darling is not the answer. He should be some sort of ruck rover.

Therefore Lycett for Cox. NN as a big bodied midfielder- I would try him on the wing. Sinclair at FF. I would also have Schoefield on a wing and Rosa at half back. Gaff at HFF. Cripps gone.

Basically to win games something has to change.

+ McGovern looked new untainted was fantastic
Enjoyed Gaffs game and finally became a multi goal kicking wingman
Nic Nat improving and clunked 2 spectacular marks
Yeo is on the rise has a really good attitude

__
kicking straight up the line continually where was the switching and support running ,Simpson gave the hawks too much respect ,he should have known about any weaknesses and attempted to expose them .
Midfield lacks serious confidence which is impacting on poor decision making and skill errors ,they need too be bundled together and have a good group bonding in isolation .
