Morning after and I don't feel any better. I am absolutely shattered, still. Thats as insipid a performance as I have seen from our club given we played our biggest challenger for the wooden spoon. Years of promise and we cannot even get close to the dorks. So sad. Just give me some hope.

It’s painfully clear there are people in important roles who aren’t up to the task of enforcing the required standards of an elite football side.

Both on and off field.

But its the list 🙄

Bet you the whole club is being positive and not concerned about winning or setting standards right now

It ended in a goal but the mindset of North was summed up early, when Corr ran past and called for the ball on his non preferred side and then was forced to do a right foot banana into forward line.
I mean, that's under 12s stuff right there.
How does an AFL player make a decision like that?
Said the same thing at the ground.

WTF was he doing even calling for that ball knowing he was on his wrong side?

He’s a brain dead spud.

It's Aiden Corr thats why.

He thinks he's Andrew McLeod streaming out of the backline when his ball drop is the stuff of nightmares.

I've never seen an AFL defender try and kick so many torps/mongrels out of the D50 on purpose.

The one he kicked into the third row on the wing with a torp was another beauty when we had a player there able to contest it on the wing if he simply kicked a drop punt to advantage.

Got into work today and almost immediately got the "Heh heh...what happened to Norf?" I told them that I just don't care anymore which they took as a joke. I snapped and told them I wasn't joking. A Carlton fan said he knows how I feel. I snapped. Carlton won 1 game in 27, the win being a game we'd have been better off losing, won 12 games in 5 years and finished in the bottom 2 each year and thrashed by the next worst side before half time - 6 games, 6 times beaten well before the end???? No one except old Fitzroy supporters knows how this feels. How watching your club slide away feels.

I walked away disappointed that I snapped, but almost feeling like crying at what our club has become and will continue to become.

The really terrible thing is that we had good users in the vicinity.

Good leaders know their limitations and defer tasks those suited to the job. Corr is just a dumb footballer.

How has this changed so drastically since pre-season and the first few rounds? The players themselves commented on how the plan is simple and understandable. 'North-ball' seemed to be working with quick movement all over the ground, players seemed fit and firing.

Cut to round 5 and 6 and we're chipping slowly around the wings every chance we get.
Did the media slamming of Northball (was it just Wardlaw half jokingly mentioning it once in an interview that got the ire of certain commentators?) play a part in our retreat so quickly from something worked on all preseason?

I'm telling you the players gave checked out. Not all of them but most of us.

Watch most of us all just walking along
Were the easiest team to walk out of defence since 2008

That’s the same as being checked out lol

They don’t care or listen to any game plan. Players are rogue out there. How can you implement a game plan when most of the team isn’t listening nor respect the words coming out the coaches mouth
Nah not understanding and not caring are two different things.

I don't believe that they are not listening and I will go so far as to say that there are a bunch of players, the younger ones, who we are burning with the weight of our ineptness. I wonder how many of them need to talk to Sports shrinks on the regular.

In a sport where faction of seconds count the delay caused by our indecision could be counted in hours.

Leave aside the youngsters, this game against Hawks has kicked some self belief out of the playing group. Particularly those players that have been around for the last 4+ seasons, with the intensity required, not sure how they can get up 100% after such an extended losing streak.

Strange thing is, Zuurhar drops a mark 20 out directly in front which wouldve had us 4 goals down. They run up other end and goal. Then Larkey misses from lucky free kick and they run it down other end for a goal. We couldve been 3 goals down with plenty of time to spare, instead the lead blew out to 7 goals.
!00% agree and l think we've seen it in the last few matches, IF we kick the critical goals, our confidence comes back and you never know. Instead, we drop our heads for a split second and wooshka, from kickout, through the middle and goal.

About 5 players yesterday busted their @rses for the whole game while the rest just gave up. l feel so sorry for Sheezel who tried his guts out yesterday to the point he gave a few players a spray at 1 point. It not that hard a process to pick a team. Pick players who are performing, those that you can see are at least trying and not giving up and those that are needed, the rest can go into the vfl and not come back until you see improvement for more than a couple of weeks. To see so many players yesterday dejected, hands on hips, watching the game , not maning up, not chasing and applying no pressure up the field leaving it to the poor defence to try and curb the problem..

I've never felt so awful and depressed after a game as I did yesterday and this morning those feelings hadn't gone away, so I'm working from home, I just don't want to talk to anybody today. Yesterday's game, and the first half in particular was (I hope) the lowest point in our club's history, but it was more of an eye opener than the previous 4 games because it proved to me that we have a long way to go before we are competitive, and it may take another year of two down the bottom before we start to rise, if we ever rise above mediocrity again.

Three things that stood out yesterday:
1. The ease at which Hawthorn moved the ball from deep defence to at least centre wing was incredible, let alone from deep defence into their forward 50m to a forward in space. Even when we had time to setup defensively, they picked through it like it was nothing and get it to centre wing. I don't know whether this is a flaw with the defensive system or a lack of effort and/or smarts from our players not knowing when to close down a player in their space.

2. The amount of times Hawthorn fumbled more than once in a passage of play and the player that fumbled still had time to gather the ball, assess his options and execute to an open teammate. This is flat out a lack of effort.

3. Very few players in our side have the confidence to spot up a short-to-medium target that isn't in a ton of space. This is partly why we're constantly kicking long to a pack, particularly going inside 50m. The other reason why we're constantly kicking to a pack is because we're way too slow to move the ball. A player executes a risky kick that comes off and opens the ground, instead of getting off the mark and handballing to a runner or moving it quickly forward, we hold it up and allow the opposition to stream back in numbers.

There was a passage of play yesterday where we were using hands out of defence and it ended up with Mckercher around the back flank. He took possession, turned inside and tried to hit a short/medium kick which he missed, it came back and they ended up kicking a goal from memory. Honestly, I didn't even give a shit that he missed the target, because it's the exact type of kick that most our players wouldn't dare consider, but opens up the ground and should lead to a good Inside 50 entry.

The player are second guessing themselves, not bringing a consistent effort, are devoid of confidence and clearly struggling to adjust to whatever game plan Clarko is trying to implement.

Rough times.

Too many people were prepared to ignore the previous month. Hang onto a quarter against Freo. Say we'll be fine when draw got easier. Yesterday was what they were hanging onto. Well, our problems were laid bare. No hiding anymore.

One thing that stood out to me was how stationary our players are. So many times, we get the ball on our half back flank and we're forced to go back over our mark only to look up ahead to see 15 blokes just standing on the spot. No one leading. No one trying to create space for someone to lead in to. This is why we are constantly bombing the ball up the line to a contest. There's no other option. You just don't see this consistently from any other team in the comp. At least in the first few weeks when we were doing the Northball thing, we had players constantly looking to be hit up on a lead. It's honestly like we've given up.

Ha I remember that. It was Sheezel with ball in hand, and Corr has the gall to ask for a hand off out the back, then true to form skies it with a helicopter kick. IIRC we scored from the play, but the fact that a) Corr would consider himself a better I50 option than Sheez, and b) Sheez didn’t tell him to **** right off, was such a reflection on this season so far.

God, #2. So many times the ball was on the ground and we had one or more players close enough to contest for it but a Hawthorn player would have time to pick it up and feed it out. During the week Harry said something about this game coming down to who wanted it more and I thought it wasn’t likely to be that simple, and then over and over that was literally what seemed to decide contests and ultimately the game.

You only have to look into our recent past to see the club isn't up to it.

Bards last contract
Rawling
Reeces and Nobles
Walsh audit (did * all)
Luff

They know they are inept and then seek out the services of Clarko, but by the time he gets here, Brady has ****ed the list beyond repair and not even the master coach can right the ship...

I'm highly doubtful Alastair sees out his contract tbh

We need a board spill and a full external audit by AFL appointed administrators and ex premiership coaches etc

Lets be honest, the club is run by charity muggers, who's sole goal is to extract as many $$ as possible.
We ain't a football club anymore, we get more emails trying to sell us stuff than actually attempting to engaging us with the club.

100%! couldn’t believe how many times they would fumble and keep the play going.

And to think there was a play worse than that. Stephens running out of bounds so he didnt take a tackle and getting penalized for deliberate. No effort to hand ball under over or around him, no nothing but ship running down his leg.
I dont watch other teams anywhere near as close as i do North, but FFS how on earth didnt a recruiter pick up the squib?
Funnily enough I brought this play up in the Stephens thread too.
