And to think there was a play worse than that. Stephens running out of bounds so he didnt take a tackle and getting penalized for deliberate. No effort to hand ball under over or around him, no nothing but ship running down his leg.
I dont watch other teams anywhere near as close as i do North, but FFS how on earth didnt a recruiter pick up the squib?
giantroo any chance you can clip this Stephens effort? Would like to see it again.

I don’t.

Usually I am outraged at umpiring decisions on any North player’s behalf, but that one I thought it absolutely served him right.

Suggest that the players should be made to listen while most of these posts (which truly represent what most supporters think) are read out and then be made to stand up and defend their actions.

Three things that stood out yesterday:
1. The ease at which Hawthorn moved the ball from deep defence to at least centre wing was incredible, let alone from deep defence into their forward 50m to a forward in space. Even when we had time to setup defensively, they picked through it like it was nothing and get it to centre wing. I don't know whether this is a flaw with the defensive system or a lack of effort and/or smarts from our players not knowing when to close down a player in their space.

2. The amount of times Hawthorn fumbled more than once in a passage of play and the player that fumbled still had time to gather the ball, assess his options and execute to an open teammate. This is flat out a lack of effort.

3. Very few players in our side have the confidence to spot up a short-to-medium target that isn't in a ton of space. This is partly why we're constantly kicking long to a pack, particularly going inside 50m. The other reason why we're constantly kicking to a pack is because we're way too slow to move the ball. A player executes a risky kick that comes off and opens the ground, instead of getting off the mark and handballing to a runner or moving it quickly forward, we hold it up and allow the opposition to stream back in numbers.

There was a passage of play yesterday where we were using hands out of defence and it ended up with Mckercher around the back flank. He took possession, turned inside and tried to hit a short/medium kick which he missed, it came back and they ended up kicking a goal from memory. Honestly, I didn't even give a s**t that he missed the target, because it's the exact type of kick that most our players wouldn't dare consider, but opens up the ground and should lead to a good Inside 50 entry.

The player are second guessing themselves, not bringing a consistent effort, are devoid of confidence and clearly struggling to adjust to whatever game plan Clarko is trying to implement.

Rough times.
Just a question from someone who wasn’t paying too much attention to footy in 2020:

Which pane plan is more difficult for the players to understand/execute:

Noble’s rabble or Clarko’s mess?

We need to recruit a couple of genuine Arseholes with some proper mongrel in them that pressure like their lives depend on it.

Also the way the ball gets walked out of our forward 50 with that zone we keep trying to do doesn't work, for god sakes go man on man.
LOL, this would never happen with the current leadership.
They'd be sent on sabbatical the first altercation.

Clarko doesn’t care about winning, so the players probably love it. It’s a great excuse to half arse it when your coach doesn’t care if you win or not.

I could not phantom the idea of an afl coach not wanting or caring to win… it’s just not something you’d image would be real……

Right???

This has red flags written all over it.
The messaging has constantly changed throughout the course of the year.

It’s gone from we are sick of losing and want to win, to we know where we are at and we can’t compete.

It’s really horrible messaging to give a sportsperson what is essentially an excuse each week to not turn up.

Yes everyone knows where the club is at, but regardless of the list profile and experience, effort and intent should be a non-negotiable. I haven’t seen that come through in any of Clarko’s public messaging, but hey maybe it’s different behind closed doors?

It sounds crazy. But the guy has said it himself. He has stated repeatedly that he has overlooked his best options in favour of player learning.

It’s a delicate balance, because if that learning makes you uncompetitive the damage of constantly being flogged and losing will far outweigh the good from any of those lessons.

I think we are in that phase now, where he just needs to stop the experimenting and put what is the best possible side on the park week to week and try and get this side more competitive and balanced.

Playing in a losing culture is not good for anyone’s psyche.

I don't want to see Fisher, Mckercher, Sheezel, Scott as part of the back 6 again.

From a team and player perspective they're better suited in other roles.

It's like banging your head against a brick wall watching them back there, week in week out. Scott is a wingman! Sheezel is a freak who can do damage from the middle forward! This is not working, what are we doing?! I am no coach but I could almost guarantee you that we would look better if everyone was just moved to their best position.

If Archer and Hardeman flop then God help us. But it's worth a shot.

Not sure if it has been referenced before but that crowd of 30,000 is quite phenomenal given both teams were winless. More than saints v dogs.

Go figure.
And no one has said a word about the crowd at that game. If it was us, we would be called out big time. This double standard s**ts me.

We all expected our senior players to lift when Clarko came.
Even if these players are limited, they can at least break even with their opponent if they’re playing for their coach and believe in the system.
We haven’t seen that at all. We are that far off it sitting here trying to find reasons, when the reality is that if the current administration was any better, we’d be seeing immediate signs and improvement.

Can’t just blame our players because we’ve seen them play well before.
Can’t blame previous administrations of the current one is handing out long contracts to the likes of Fisher and Stephens.

These players should be walking taller.

Our game plan is an amateur piece of sh*t and why would you move Chom if you’ve either got no idea at all or you’re trying to lose on purpose?

We can all see it. That’s the troubling thing. It’s so obvious to us. Why are we paying people who don’t see it?

Few players also hesitated a lot when the ball was there to be won. Instead of pushing forward getting the ball at all costs they just slowed down and tip toed to allow easy Hawks gather.

That's the worst thing. When it's your time to go you go. We've become very soft.

There was a noticeable Powell one against Newcombe in the third which went straight down the other end for a Hawks goal.

There seems to be a lot of trust issues and low confidence amongst the group. Just far too much hesitation and in some cases trying too hard because they don't think their teammate has it covered.

As a result, the game plan looks shithouse because players are not performing as their role requires.

Agree. We actually started OK. But the instant Hawthorn put up any sort of response the whole thing capitulated.

Aside from being a very ordinary collection of footballers, they are also mentally weak.
This is what concerns me most. Looked good for the first 10 minutes, some errors etc but that’s fine, we were running and marking the ball inside 50. Hawks switched on and literally we just shat the bed. Chip chip chip - make it someone else’s responsibility - then bomb it to 12 players, they wait out the back and transition with ease and score.

I cannot believe we are being coached to play like this. This is Noble era levels, after some improvement last year and decent signs in preseason and even up to Good Friday. There is NO leadership. They’re broken. I said some time ago that I was worried we’d **** up the careers of Larkey, LDU, Jy, Zurharr and Scott. How are these guys going? Cos it’s looking like we need to start again. They need to do something radically different. Get on the piss and shout at each other. An ayahuasca ceremony. A week of silent meditation. Anything.

One of the hardest things to take about yesterday was that even after our bright start - we scored the first two goals of the game - you could clearly see we were screwed. We were dominating around the ball but every kick inside 50 was marked(contested) by Hawthorn and they had free players everywhere. I was already losing my mind and we were still winning. That’s how obvious everything is.
