The umpiring clearly had an impact on the result. It was bad in the first half and was worse in the third quarter. Most of it happened to be in their forward line too and directly lead to goals. At times I feel that the club needs to bite the bullet and make a statement about this, write a letter or do whatever it takes to bring attention to this. It may cost us in the short term but will help in the longer term.

Sam is as much of a caricature as Humphrey B Bear is of a Bear

Anyone that knows John Newman can only tell of a great bloke that would give his shirt off his back to anyone
I live in Docklands in the tower next to the one Sam lives in. I bumped into him in the pool once.

Everyone speaks highly of him as a neighbour.

listning to the MMM commentry trying to say the umpiring was crap without saying the umpirig was crap this morning was rather absurd, at one point they tried to say it was taking time to adjust to the 4 umpire system, i know they cant bite the hand that feeds them but sheesh, no chance of calling a spade a spade.
The AFL Kremlin have them by the balls.

‘You want to keep the rights? You say nothing of the umpires…’

Interested observer and come in good faith, but genuinely want to know which of the free kicks that led to goals do North fans think were unwarranted?

curnow was holding the jumper, basically the collar of his opponent and was given a free 5 metres out. Thats one.

JZ 50 metre penalty. Thats 2.

Our disallowed goal. Thats 3.

Yet grubs like corney, damo and Caro can spout factually incorrect bullshit to push their agendas

Cunnington holding the ball. 4.

Stephenson running too far. Momentum killer. Probably 5.

Silvanghi push in the back. 6.

I obviously see the game differently but IMO you were stiff with the Curnow one which was 50/50, the 50m was 100% correct and an undisciplined act by a player who should know better, can’t remember your disallowed goal so won’t comment.

Did Stevo’s “travel off nine steps” get slung down the other end for a goal? Probably
I think it did, it actually was the turning point

The 50m penalty was not correct as a player is allowed to stand the mark. JZ was pushing to the mark and was called for being in the protected zone. Bullshit mate. You see things differently. Abstract in fact.

I’m only going on vague memory from 96-99 we barely spoke about Umpires because we were so good.

We’re frustrated because we’re not there yet

I don’t think the Cats fans were worrying about Umpires in 2022, or the GoDeez or Tigers b4 them

That’s where we’re heading
Naaahh Gaso. The umpiring was bad back then too. If Longmire had got the frees he deserved he would have gone past 100 at least twice. Carey used to have blokes riding piggy-back on him in marking contests and they'd pay frees against him. Mick Martin only had to grimace and the whistle would be out in a flash.

The difference back then was that the team were genuinely that good they could ride a major deficit in frees.

When the coach was in a box in the AFL area my mother in law used to say she'd jump in fright when Pagan would bellow out a tirade against the umpires. She never wanted to sit in front of the coaches box but the rest of us loved it there. Pagan's death stare was about 24 stages darker than Cameron Zurhaar's yesterday, and when he got riled by umpires he could bellow out a roar that echoed half way around the MCG.

Our board has looked like this the past 5 years, the reality is that bad/developing teams give away undisciplined free kicks.. the other thing is that the poorer teams generally get the lowest ranked umpires each week.
