Spectre

Despite the mixed reviews thus far I went into this one with high expectations. How could I not, being a big fan of the Bond franchise?

Skyfall and Casino Royale in particular are up there among the best in the franchise, so surely Spectre will follow suit, right?

Wrong. Oh so, so wrong.

I never thought I'd see the day where I was bored during a Bond movie, but that's exactly what this was - boring. I go to a Bond movie expecting to be enthralled and entertained from start to finish, and whilst there were a few cool 'Bond-like' scenes, they were few and far between.

Leading into the release of the film there was plenty of hype surrounding Monica Bellucci as a Bond girl, yet she was in two scenes. I was not timing it, but she wouldn't have been on screen for more than 5 minutes in a 2.5 hour long movie.

Christoph Waltz is a wonderful actor and could have been one of the best Bond villains in the entire franchise....but his role was very poorly written.

I've been a big fan of Daniel Craig in his movies but he seemed well off the mark here....as if he was just going through the motions.

Swing and a big miss. Hopefully they bounce back with a fantastic movie next time around because this fell well short of expectations generated by the Bond name.

Quantum of Solace was terrible but it seemed as though this movie was doing everything possible to be held in a similar regard as the worst Bond movie ever made. Wasn't far off it, to be honest.

2/10. And that's being generous.

Craig is lamenting having signed a 5 movie deal. He is so over it apparently. Still has one more to go!

How did Batista go?

Not much of a Bond fan. The action sequences are all too telegraphed and the plots have always juicy holes through them.

Casino Royale is my clear favourite and stands head and shoulders above the other Bond movies, for mine.

Skyfall not on the same level but excellent nonetheless.

Skyfall is at Die Another Day levels. So stupid it breaks the suspension of disbelief. Bond, Home Alone.
But it does have perhaps the best Bond Girl. Not worth watching after she gets shot.

Recents:

The Revenant: Movie of the year for me. Not for the short attention spanned viewers though. Stunning in many ways. 8.5/10
Sicario: Avoided this thinking it will be a run-of-the-mill but then it clicked that it was a Villeneuve. Great movie.......8/10
Hateful 8: Tarantino whodunnit. Quickest 3 hours I've sat through. Worked on many levels but not all. 7/10
Crimson Peak: What a (del Toro) letdown. Of course it looks great but some mood or story required. 5.5/10
The Martian: Vanilla on every level. A good vanilla, but vanilla just the same. 6/10
Star Wars: Been there done that. Boring and somewhat pointless...........except for the fact it will make billions of dollars. No score.
Saw Star Wars today it was pretty good, but I don't see how it was boring and somewhat pointless.

I found the revenant to be boring as hell.
Sicario was ok, but not great.

Everyone has an opinion and the opinions on Star Wars seem to have been favourable but what about this movie was interesting?
I can't pick out one moment that stands out but can pin-point many tedious moments.

I guess it's not pointless for the fact it's reeling in billions, so it has certainly done it's job from that point of view but could that be on the back of giving fans back the symbols they wanted to see without any real content?
Yes, the Millenium is there. Solo and Wookie show up. Leia and Skywalker say hello. C3PO & R2D2 make their appearance.
X-Wing fighters are there. Weird creatures in a bar. Desert planets of course and the raid upon another Death Star.............all a bit familiar, no?

I was looking at my watch within the first hour so i guess my view was already formed but interestingly I asked my friend whether he enjoyed the movie.
He replied, "Yeah, it was great" to which I then asked him, "Then why were you looking at your phone?"
I think he like many felt they had to like it as having really enjoyed it....................you know..............follow the hype.
It was a bit familiar, but you can say that about nearly every movie these days, still I respect your opinion.

Take ANH and have Luke do everything himself (without the help of Obiwan and Han) and you have TFA. The main character was good at everything making the supporting characters seem unimportant, to me anyway.

Though in saying that, I mostly enjoyed it and still look forward to the next ones...

Saw Star Wars today. Really liked the first 2/3 or so, thought the last 1/3 let it down a bit in the end. Overall was pretty good really.
The last 1/3 was made 40 years ago in the original film. Just seemed unnecessary.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Force Awakens. It was a just a good action movie, and what's wrong with that?
It's not just an action movie though. It's always going to be compared to the series it belongs to.

I thought it was ok but it was way too 'Disney' for me.

Yes, loved it, it's in my top 10.
Seeing The Revenent next week, looking forward to it.
Finally someone else has seen it! It's so unlike anything I've ever seen before.

I kind of watched the opening 10 mins and didn't think I'd make it all the way through but it just pulled me into it the longer it went. Was absolutely magnificent. Ralph is such a great actor.

The cameos are fantastic and it's really fricken funny. It's shot beautifully too, loved it.
