MRP / Trib. Ballantyne gets a week.

difference is one is most likely going back into the team and the other will still have to prove himself ... i wonder whose mum will be spitting chips?
Ballas surely will get a bath from the leadership group too. Sick of the crap when the chips are down. Hasn't been performing as great either. Sigh

Disappointing to say the least, purely from the perspective of him taking up a spot on your list that some young keen kid could of made a career out of and now will sadly be a waste. These kids with Scottish surnames from Mandurah are forcing recruiters to take notice that they are finicky and hard to "make work" and commit to a rigid lifestyle of hard work and ethic, I wouldn't pick one these days if I were a recruiter.
Hold on, no-one is saying this because it's patently nonsense.

How in the hell Darren Glass only copped a week for his head high bump is a joke and didn't get cited for the other one shortly after. The Fyfe suspension becomes more and more of an injustice as the weeks roll on.

Glass hit wingard with low impact.

Are the grades; low, high, severe? Does anyone know what separates low impact from high impact? A bit of blood? If he had to leave the field?

They assess by medical report. That's it.

There's no visual assessment of force, just outcome. If Glass had hit him any harder he'd probably have cut him in two... but it's considered light because he didn't break a rib.

It's a f*cking joke. Run by lawyers. Way to destroy any form of reason or common sense. They need to allow precedent to have an influence again, but they're afraid to because that'll undermine a process that routinely throws up stupid results.

This sums up the issue with the MRP, if Wingard was concussed it would have been 3 or 4 weeks but because he only got bruised ribs he could have got off with a reprimand.

Here is the video for those that are interested.

Ballas's second one is about the same as hodge, and his 1st one didn't look like a lot to me. I think some people do not like him.

Cheers for the video link.
I liked the part near the end where Bowden is asked how impact is assessed with the hodge and Johnson one. He answered it assess insufficient impact since both players got around and continued playing. He is then challenged that that's the case with Ballas one and got stumped there...

Frankly, I think Ballas reputation done him in. Still, have to admit I think Ballas was probably up to something and they nailed him with whatever rubbish they can find

Finally seen the video and it is an absolute joke. The 'kneeing' I can see why they got him for that but I don't think it was intentional. The striking charge is the biggest, softest joke I have seen.

Ignoring the MRP it was stupid by Ballantyne. He needs to stay away from that sort of rubbish. Doesn't need it, and it makes him an easy target.
And I just said to a customer the day prior to the game he seems to have pulled his head in this year, doesn't seem to be carrying on with the niggle. Don't I feel like a goose?

What lawyers are on the MRP?

Interest point on the medical report.
I doubt the report will have a "medium impact" written on it by the doctor.
I'm prejudiced here I admit, but I'll assume MRP will take a look at the report, scratch their head, and say "let's just go with a medium!"

None that I'm aware of. They're mostly past players I think.

But I'm sure that the points system and legalistic approach to assessing stuff like impact and intent were established by, or informed by, lawyers.

the system was designed to provide a transparent way of arriving at reasonable penalties. The method may be transparent, but the penalties aren't reasonable any more, as they're apparently unable to sanity check them by considering precedent.

Would have to agree given some of the recent examples, how they determined Glass's charge, and that's precisely what it was, on Wingard as of low impact I am at a loss to understand.

Somewhat off topic but can anyone explain to me why the Glass incident is considered less severe than the Douglas one. The inconsistency of the process is really starting to piss me off. Fyfe got two weeks for what was pretty much a fair bump (even according to John Worsfold) and Glass left the ground in a marking contest, had no eyes for the ball and simply sniped Wingard and gets one week. I'm just about done.

Close but there is a dot or two to be joined. Glass made captain by Worsfold who is on the review board. Please tell me someone is not feeling pressure to be nice to "poor Glassy"

Genuinely can't understand how Fyfe got medium and Hunt got medium for their "high bumps" in the first round of the season. I'd say the MRP did the moron thing and went "any medical intervention instantly means medium impact or above"... because both bumpees required stitches. Makes absolutely zero sense when you consider the other bumps that have been classified as light, and to the head (with shoulders mind you, so more concussive force!). Much more likely to cause the brain injury that everyone is so worried about.

People do something similar when classifying work injuries. Medical intervention instantly escalates something from minor to a much bigger deal.

Common sense can't reign when the process is so ridiculously rule-bound.

That is pretty suss if true. Surely you wouldn't be allowed to vote or be involved with a case involving a player you used to coach.
