The Reality
Ballas walks into Ross's office a month ago and says that he would like a 3 year deal in order to provide security for himself and his young family. Ross says "sorry Ballas, you need to speak with Chris Bond and Brad Lloyd about that, as I don't handle the contract negotiations around here."
Ballas then tells Colin Young that he would like a 3 year deal in order to stay with the club.
Colin Young then sends an ultimatum to Fremantle, that if Hayden Ballantyne is not offered a 3 year deal then he is prepared to go to another club that will offer him a 3 year deal. The club knows that Ballantyne at the age of 29 with his long list of injuries won't get a 3 year deal anywhere, so they offer him a 2 year deal instead. The club also knows that Hayden does not want to leave the state due to his young family and commitments to horse training and agistment with his father and uncle in Baldivis.
Colin Young then leaks to the media that Hayden Ballantyne wants to be traded to West Coast in order to get a 3 year deal, hoping that the pressure from fans of the club will force them into offering him a 3 year contract so that he stays.
Everybody except the media knows that had Hayden Ballantyne demanded a trade to the West Coast as it was reported then he would have been stood down from playing immediately.
