Ballantyne wants out - Eagles

I think its fair that Ballas asks for an extension, based on Pearce getting an extension. In fact Barich brought that up last night directly to Ross. It does compromise the plan, if blokes like that get a free ride, and Ballantyne doesn't. Don't tell me that Ross wasn't asked about extending Pearce's contract, and don't tell me he has nothing to do with Ballas contract.
Ross is disingenuous to a fault with the media

Ballantyne's output has been declining for the past 2 years. Say what you want about Pearce but he is still the same footballer he was 2 years ago. His stats are actually remarkably unchanged for his full career. He has averaged 19 to 21 possessions every single year he has played since 2006. He is actually very consistent and if the team likes what they are getting i see no reason why he wouldn't get a new contract.

the last two years Balla has averaged about a goal a game for 10 possessions. he isn't delivering and he doesn't deserve a 2 year contract.

His manager will shop him around and find that the best offer is two years and then come back and sign with Freo. At best he might get two with some performance option for three.

I reckon we will offer him a 1 year deal with a trigger clause for a second year based on performance, which he will sign

I still see a spot in the 22 for Spurr. I think he is a victim of the lack of quality down back. He is playing outside his limits.

Our only good users by foot down back are Crozier and at times Sutcliffe, and Spurr is taking it upon himself be one of those guys (which he isn't). He often gets high possession numbers compared to the rest of the back six.

Ibbotson looking lost also doesn't help. If Spurr is given the role of being a small defender and only that, he is easily in our best 22.

I take your point, and Sunday just wasn't his day, so I probably shouldn't use it as an example but his defence was awful too.

I think he'll start best 22 next year but not finish it. If we're going to re-build then we need to move on from the good honest battlers that can be replaced by younger talent and I think Tucker will develop into a good defender that can use the ball and create. If we want a lockdown small defender then Nyhuis could be ready mid-late next year also.

Ballantyne has value. He is not considered apart of our next phase. Trade him.

There is no denying that he has been great for the club and he has done a lot but it goes both ways. The club has also done a lot for him. The football club as a whole is far more important than any individual.

Are you telling me Danyle has always been a shit kicker even though only a few of us were calling it and now we're all aware of it (apart from one)

No way Ballas is getting a deal with the Dockers after the shit storm his manager has started.
Round 2 draft pick would be nice thanks.
its funny the different way player managers attack it. Lachie Neale's manager kept details in house but was open on the negotiation process but got the best done for his client. This joker (if he was indeed the leak - which I suspect so going on history) may ruin it for his client by being a big mouth git.

Lol. If Sumich had actually threatened to throw Lyon through a window, he would have been marched out of the club on the spot.

You don't know that.

That sort of thing happens all the time in real life workplaces. Saying that Fremantle absolutely wouldn't tolerate it is like pretending there's a "no dickhead policy". Wishful thinking.

Any workplace with a HR dept would class that as an instant dismissal. No ifs, buts or maybes.

If it was 2 lowly employees sure. Those rules don't apply to people considered essential to the company.

There are plenty of ifs, buts and maybes, to be truthful.

Didnt he have to leave after he threatened to put Lyon through a window in response to a Lyon verbal tirade to the coaching staff?

Which would still put him as a strong suspect - but is that having your career ended for you in a publicly ignominious fashion?
When was that supposed to have happened Suma couldn't hurt anyone physically so your comments are dubious to say the least because you weren't there when it happened. Stories from others telling you are always Bullshit.

Apparently Saints are after Fyfe, Bombers after Balla's blah blah blah

If we are so shit, why is everyone after our players

Even though Burke couldn't help but sink the boot in to Freo (the flog) the article I read about Fyfe to Saints makes a lot of sense unfortunately.

He's got lots of runs on the board, but that doesn't mean anyone has to believe him.

Anyone over the age of 27 probably isn't going to be there when we are going to be a chance again. We should be trying to get as much young talent through the door these next couple of years which means blokes that are 27+ should be traded if they even hint they want out. Of course you need a few older heads around the club to help develop the kids, look at what St. Kilda have done: keep a few older leaders (Montagna, Roo etc.) and trade anyone else that has any value (Goddard, Dal Santo etc.). We simply need more draft picks in the first couple of rounds, forget wasting time with free agents like Vickery. We may even need to downgrade pick 3 for extra 1st or second round picks if the talent is there this year. Stupid that we gave Danyle a contract extension, what's the point? So he can teach the young guys how to kick like shit?
We'll be building our next team around guys like Walters, Fyfe, Neale & Hill not guys like Ballas & Barlow. It's going to be sad to say goodbye to a lot of these loyal servants and it might get a bit messy (eg. Crowley last year) but it is necessary to move forward.
