Ballantyne wants out - Eagles

From the only genuine insider on our board, bond_007

I'm sure the older posters here will be able to vouch for his insider-ness.

Still, I completely understand if anyone calls bullshit on what he was told.

I just thought I'd post it as I'd read (on this board) that Suma was sacked for incompetence (on similar) without anyone questioning if it actually happened that way.
So the question is, if you threaten to throw your boss out a window does that make you incompetent for the job? Just at a guess id say yes very incompetent

No really. It happens all the time in banking, legal, finance and consulting type industries. It's usually so you don't steal clients and/or insider knowledge.

We probably are in the process of finalising list management, drafting and trading strategies as well as trying out new game plans and we didn't want Sumich to take that info to any new club.
And if there were only 250 senior positions nationally in banking, legal, finance and consulting they would be relevant comparisons. My bet is he's finished (unless, as you say. He already had a job lined up).

I suppose him being let go for incompetence might just be what we want to hear; bit of confirmation bias. He's never seemed that sharp to me and that would just validate it. Equally he did managed to keep his job for 4 years with us.
The flip side it is it does seem like awfully big coincidence for this all to happen within days of the interal review coming out. It also spins the event as being precipitated by a crazy Ross Lyon, which seems a bit convenient.

I agree that it makes sense that he was sacked for being incompetent. I'm just not sure it's fair to conclude that as fact (which you haven't done) without some kind of confirmation.

You are right.

But there is a difference in being sacked for:
- physically threatening your boss in response to verbal abuse, and
- being generally crap at your job.

Didnt he have to leave after he threatened to put Lyon through a window in response to a Lyon verbal tirade to the coaching staff?

Which would still put him as a strong suspect - but is that having your career ended for you in a publicly ignominious fashion?
Maybe it was just a misunderstanding like maybe Suma was thinking damn Rossco is the best coach in AFL hes my idol like Superman i bet he can fly. Then mid daze he blurted out" Damn i want to throw you out the window ross see if you can fly"

Haha yeah maybe. Did lol

Anyway I don't want to be annoying on your board, just thought I'd put forward another explanation and question one at the same time.

Probably time for me to leave the thread to dockers fans.

That would depend on whether the windows in your office were ones you could open.

That's what I've heard, coming indirectly from a WC assistant coach.

This is a terrible time for FFC. We will be good again, and I think it is closer than it appears.

Do you know what. I love FFC.

If players want in, good, if they need to leave, I understand. But FFS FFC get value. I do not care what they say players under contract are worth, make a fair deal and don't take unders.

Players come and go, look at Cooney and Goddard, look at Lockett and look at Judd. There are so many examples. The career for AFL players is limited and it is ruthless, so either self interest or loyalty. With that truth to self. Ballas, I know you will not read this, but I love you, always have. You play footy with more endeavor than I have seen on a field in decades. I picked you as my buddy with an early top pick buddy draft over everyone in the team. If you must go, I will not cry....much!

Top Gun music "Dreams" plays as I am typing. Good luck cob. Love the way you play!

This leak screams salty, salty Sumich tears. Lyon wouldn't have given him a clip on the way out otherwise, he's too calculating for that.

Hate to be that guy especially as you are obviously a fan of his, but the guy was total rubbish here. Had to go.

Have you read our WAFL development reports? Or been down at training watching the bloke do **** all, sauntering around at training disinterested with a footy tucked under his arm like a security blanky? Comparing him to Simon Lloyd, the bloke is utterly useless in comparison.

Not sure Simpson would be rapt to have him back there, but I guess Nisbett will have a nice cushy "job for the boys" position for some of that good old "Suma Magic"

Lol. If Sumich had actually threatened to throw Lyon through a window, he would have been marched out of the club on the spot. This didn't happen. Truth is he was being "managed" out as he wasn't part of our new coaching group, with our new and improved gameplan...whatever that is.

The moral of the story is never to listen to Eagles flogs.

I have impeccable sources around the Judd exit. The way Sumich reacted was beyond crazy, and makes it completely believable that he would threaten Lyon like that. But more likely as a result of being sacked, rather than a reason for being sacked.

If we give him a 2 year contract extension I'll be disappointed. His output has been on the decline for 2 yrs now. Doubtful that turns around.
His manager will shop him around and find that the best offer is two years and then come back and sign with Freo. At best he might get two with some performance option for three.

These last two years have shown that Ballantyne the midfielder isn't productive, the next two years with Ballantyne the forward pocket can be quite good.

Hes played more forward than midfield in that time and been pretty crap, don't see where this second wind of form is coming from.

Think the best scenario for all parties is a move imo.

He might start forward but he very rarely finds himself at the foot of the tall as they bring it to ground unless he is on the wing. Ross even mentioned that he has been playing his small forwards higher than usual and they are taking a while to adjust to it.

Our forward structure is a joke. Ballas is trying to kick goals while wearing handcuffs.

I would have said ice skates, the amount of times he falls over.

Geez Peel will be strong next year. I can see them making the finals and lining up with Danyle, Balla, Dawson and Spurr in the side.

I still see a spot in the 22 for Spurr. I think he is a victim of the lack of quality down back. He is playing outside his limits.

Our only good users by foot down back are Crozier and at times Sutcliffe, and Spurr is taking it upon himself be one of those guys (which he isn't). He often gets high possession numbers compared to the rest of the back six.

Ibbotson looking lost also doesn't help. If Spurr is given the role of being a small defender and only that, he is easily in our best 22.

The problem i see, how many teams just have lockdown small defenders with no other strings to their bow.
