The following is an excerpt from the player agent's handbook" co-written by ricky nixon and liam pickering

"When your player is up for a new contract, float the possibility that Collingwood is offering a high paying long term contract. This will encourage the players current club to increase its own offer."

Heard Neil Balme on SEN a while ago. He laughed at the Treloar rumour, but then you'd expect him to do so. I wouldn't give up Jamie Elliott for anyone. He offers a guilt-edged combination of talent and the right character to succeed.

I don't see why we would give up a player in our top 5.

Beams is the biggest player to leave a club via trade since Judd. Top 10 or 15 player in the AFL in his mid twenties. His value was a Pick 5, 25 & a player with potential (but certainly not best 22). I don't see why we would offer anyone in our top 10 players.

If Treloar or anyone for that matter is out of contract and really wants to leave, GWS hand would be forced nothing or Our 1st & 2nd round and a player with potential. Their list needs may not require draft picks and players with talent but it allows them to trade for an established player.

No I was just making the point that maybe the reason Aish is underperformaning is because he doesn't want to be at the Lions

See, here I was thinking that he'd just shown the natural improvement you'd like to see from a high draft pick with an additional 2 years in the system. Silly me.

Really?
Would they do that?
Excellent!
I'm guessing we'd have to swap second and third round picks too, yeah.

I'd say second round should be enough, although if GWS want to throw in the third round to encourage us to take him off their hands, then I would accept that deal too...

Sorry for the intrusion. Don't normally post in these kinds of threads unless it's to answer a question or two. But I thought I would throw my 2 cents your way on a couple of matters.

Treloar is not homesick. You can forget about that right from the outset. Earlier this year he tweeted something along the lines of "It was fun to visit family and friends in Melbourne, but it's good to be home #Sydney" His girlfriend is up here and he does actually like living here - so that's not a factor. He (and everyone else) sees himself as a future leader of the club and he has stated repeatedly he wants to achieve things here before leaving. We are now starting to win and long gone are the days where we operated out of a disused dance studio at Rooty Hill RSL and trained on half a dozen ovals around the district using wheelie bins full of ice for our ice baths. We have a state of the art base, so that's no longer an issue. They're all factors indicating he will stay.

An oversized comedy cardboard cheque with a ridiculous amount of zeros on it however..... Well that's another story entirely and who knows what happens then.

Dylan Sheil is also often linked with a move back to Victoria - usually to either Carlton or Richmond (his boyhood club and the club where his potential/possible/maybe "father-in-law" is coaching (although there's no way you'd get me to work for my father in law so I don't understand that particular attraction)

While he hasn't been as forthcoming with his love for the club in a way Treloar has, he has repeatedly stated (and as recently as the day before yesterday) that he wants to be part of the history this club is making. He often talks about being in all the historic photos on the wall of the clubhouse in a hundred years time - first team, first finals, first flag etc. and when asked in a Q&A (twice) what's the best part about being at the Giants his response (twice) was "Being part of history" so the legacy aspect is definitely strong with Dylan.

But again - a large cheque with lots of zeros can do amazing things.

And just on another couple of points - McCarthy signed an extension to his contract last year so fitting him into the cap and him wanting out are both non-starters.

Someone mentioned a list of the players on big coin to make the point we'll struggle with cap space and included the likes of Scully Davis and Ward - hate to burst the bubble, but all three were on massively front loaded contracts so again, not a problem going forward - they're all on regular wages now, or will be in a year or two.

As for Barrett's track record on rumours about GWS players... He said Tomlinson and Cameron and Patton were all gone at various stages - all three re-signed. 'nuff said.

And finally - a lot of people have mentioned Witts in their possible trade scenarios. We have Four ruckmen and another three/four who can do a second ruck/chop out role. I just don't see why we would be interested.

We would not give you Witts anyway, Witts is a better player then blokes like Lobb. No one wants to play at a club in west Sydney with no history no fans and no tradition. Also if we are going of Twitter Treloar tweeted how much he liked playing on ANZAC day saying he would love it to be a regular fixture. If he comes to the Pies it will be and he will play infront of 10 times as many people.

I'm only going to reply to the bolded.

Witts would be your 2nd best ruck potentially number by next season. That would be a huge coup especially with your list profile. I don't want to trade him anyway but if he was in a trade with guys it would be a good coup. Also NSwelshman.

Oh how cute, a GWS fan.

Phillips is a pretty good tap ruckman and better than a lot of people think.
Downie is good all over the ground and further along in his development than I thought he would be
Lobb, probably behind the other two as an out and out ruckman but is coming off a 5 goal game last week and 3 the week before.

Chop outs from Patton, Tomlinson, Stewart (and McCarthy a bit)

And as I said - never underestimate the power of a large cheque.

ahh yep.....so no other ruckmen besides mummy and then a few kids and a few tall forwards....effectively nought.
For the record mate...I don't think Barrett knows anything (just like the rest of his ilk) but take it from a club that gets "identified as being interested in EVERYONE" and raided by opposition clubs on a regular basis, contracts in this day and age mean zilch. If your kids want to go elsewhere...or their managers want them to....they will.

From a list perspective I'd be getting a backup ruckman for Mummy!

Phillips is just okay but that's about it.

Thanks for your post, putting everything else aside, if he did want to leave and you had to do a trade with us, what would you say would be a fair price?
