Over on the Collingwood board many seem to be calling time on Beams.

Hopefully he will make a full recovery given time but appearing on an AFL field again seems a fair distance away at nearly 30 years old.

He’s basically said, without going in to specifics, that some of Beams behaviour has been questionable, and that the leadership group don’t want Beams back.


Now, I’m not good a keeping track of who’s in the know here at the best of times, so visiting an oppo board, I could be way off.

A glance at the Collingwood Beams thread gives a glimpse at the absolute divisive circus the Beams situation has become. Supporters eating each other alive. The attitude towards Beams from quite a few of them would indicate that “Side by Side” is very much a marketing slogan and nothing more.

All the very best for Beamer, but really, the support he needed sensibly needed to take place outside of the mechanisms of an AFL playing roster. Collingwood have made a diabolical blunder here, and paid two first round picks for the privilege. They try to dress it up as looking after one of their own but that is nothing but spin. They got seduced by the fairy tale and broken by a last gasp grand final loss and thought he was the missing piece. Nope.
