Beau Dowler - Will he stay or will he go ?

I am sure we tried everything to liberate the talent in Dowler. There was always a question about his intensity, even before we drafted him, but we were seduced by the raw talent.

Morton is a fair way ahead of Musto. Again there were questions about Musto's ability to play AFL. Musto's game is to chase the footy and bomb it. He has never had the nous to play AFL.

Morto can do it all. For some reason he does not do it often enough. I cannot see why Morto would stay as we have the third backman spot covered in spades. At 191cms, I would chuck 5kgs on Morto and try as more of a KPD.

I'm seriously not hurting that we didn't second time around.

Ahhhhh.......the enjoyment I shall reap watching my Crows supporting son getting his hopes up to Everist (perhaps Kosiosko might be a better example) stage and then thankfully being snuffed out..........

Life can be bliss from time to time.

Your son barracks for crows? I have less respect for yr influencing skills big fella!

The dowler situation highlights a broader weakness in the Hawks over the last 5 years: that of player development.

Thorp, Dowler, Dawson are just three examples of players who did not improve while on on list, in fact it could be argued that went backwards while on our list.

Other clubs have surpassed us with player developement. The Pies premiership was build on a dozen low profile players who improved significantly after a relatively short time on the list.

Recruiting resources are vital, but development resources probably more important. The Hawks have a lot of catching up to do in this area and inability to land high quality assistants with proven success in development such as Alan Richardson or Silvagni does not bode well.

and as zac learnt, once your in clarkos bad books, its very hard to get an opportunity to prove yourself

You've hit the nail on the head. This is, I believe, the issue that needs addressing more than any other.

Very true. Ben McGlynn & Josh Kennedy looked far more confident & competent players this year in the red & white than they did for us last season.

I've shared this 'fear' privately but I reckon if Beau did get picked up, he could kick on. If Paul Roos had got hold of him...

The two Beaus... both were taken after having horrific injuries.

I have always been very positive the Dowler experiment would work. But have to say as he was struggling in the BH 2s at the end of the year he would be better elsewhere for his own chances. Maybe someone will rookie him.

As for Beau Muston, I reckon he deserves another year. I think he needs to be developed into a shutdown forward. No one doubts his ability but after all the knee reckos his pace has dropped but he still has the same smarts. As the late Jack Dyer would say, he knows to go where the ball is going!
