Those things aren't the only things needed to win the footy. It's about running patterns as much as anything else. I appreciate it isn't his current role but even in that role you'd expect to see some nous for it. I'm not even down on him playing midfield I just think it needs to be in a tagging role because I don't think he'll win enough footy to justify it as a pure midfielder

It's all a bit irrelevant at the moment anyway. He plays low game time as a forward. It's very unlikely that he's got the tank for midfield. I wouldn't mind him trying to receive and spend some time in the high half forward part of Jordy's role, whilst JDG is out. But like you've suggested, who knows if he has the smarts to get the ball on the spread.

I wasn’t on the midfield train until yesterday. If McReery can become a consistent ball winner he could be the second best of our youngsters. The way he straight lines the contest ball in hand is like watching a runaway freight train. Im not sold on the move, but if we can bring Hill across and he’s prepared to tip in defensively watch out for this guy getting released into the midfield.

It’s absolutely mind boggling that he was overlooked in favour of Brown v Carlton when Saad did what he did off half back!

It was almost like Ward’s ego got the better of him after he was pinged a bit earlier.

I got on board after the Melb game.
You can see why we moved up the draft to get him.

But agree with you now is not the time.
He could be an absolute weapon in the middle. But only in the CBA /drift forward role that JDG and Elliot play.
He would need an extended time with the mids learning what to do in general play.

But he's just too valuable to us fwd of centre. We don't have anyone to replace him on our list in this role.

Some of the repeat efforts yesterday were just outstanding.
The one that got me was the hack kick off the ground that went 45, then he runs past 2 GWS players and lays not 1, but two tackles, forcing a dump kick which we marked.

in the context of stats, he gets 1 tackle & 2 pressure acts (maybe).
That sort of stuff is priceless to us at the moment.

In terms of importance to us and our structure, i've had him easily in our top 10 for most of this year, despite his lack of possessions.

Love his speed, strength, and pressure. Very hard at the contest, gets up and down the ground, and covers a lot of territory.
He's elite at really closing down players in space and creating an error, contest or turnover.
