A few practice match results from yesterday:

Barwon Heads beat Dunston by 20 goals, Dunston only kicked one goal in the last quarter

St Albans continued their strong pre-season beating Drysdale easily

Anyone heard how the other sides fared?

Ocean Grove finished off a solid pre-season by defeating Strathmore today at Collendina.
The Ocean Grove ball movement was very slick.
Dont write them off as a final 5 contender just yet!!!

Have also heard from a good source that Torquay looked very polished in a solid victory against Kilmore on Saturday.

It's shaping up as a very competive year for the BFL!

Newcomb played Forrest at Corio on Saturday and won convincingly. Newcomb will be competitive this year, players a lot fitter this year and picked up a few players. Only problem is a lack of height.

Did anyone listen to this? What was the preview like? Predictions?

I heard that Angelsea beat Grovey comfortably not sure when it was and no more info was told by someone on the board at Grovey

The show was ok, I will tune in again.

The BFL preview was fairly poor however as both announcers on the show had no real insight or knowledge of the league.

The predictions where all stock standard, Ammos for the flag, Newcomb for the wooden spoon and Barwon Heads to replace Ocean Grove in the five.

I was just thinking about what the odds would look like if they contemplated putting together a market for the likely Ash Meddalist. You'd almost have to have Lindsay Smith at the top again. Maybe it would go something like this:

$5 Lindsay Smith (Ammos)
$7 Tim Clark (Ammos), Luke Matthews (Drys)
$9 Roscoe Holmes (Queens)
$12 Dan Gage (Drysdale), Mitch Scott (Drys)
$15 Richard Breisch (BH)

I'm really not sure and could probably flow on from there, but just keen to grab a few peoples thoughts on how the market would look

Jimmy Dalton from Grove would have to be a show, around the $7 mark.

Throw Tom Limb from Queenscliff up there too..

anyone watch any games yesterday and keen to do a little run down?

Ammos kept the Coutas in the game in the first half by kicking poorly for goal before running away in the second half to secure a solid first up win. Coutas will be dangerous this year.

Torquay always in control vs Modda. Modda will be competitive however.

The Grubbers will finish top 5 on Saturdays fighting performance (a close loss) vs Drysdale. The Hawks will improve as the seasons rolls on.

Anglesea the big improver after knocking over Barwon Heads at Anglesea.

Port ran over Newcomb in a good game of footy. Both well and truly on the improve in 2010.

Caught the last half of this game. I am a GDFL follower, purely due to the fact of where I reside, but I was pleasntly surprised with an entertaining game of football. A quick, hotly contested game between 2 sides on the up.
Port's half backline was the key, repelling many attacks, and their small forwards were nippy and dangerous.
Newcomb tried hard, Morrison looks polished, but had to carry the load. Neither side has a genuine ruck, and for that will not play finals.

If Vigilante ever gets another game, I will spew. I have never seen a more disinterested, overweight footballer in all my life. While his mates bust an acre to get the ball down to him, he was too busy talking to spectators over the fence. As a former coach, who once played with Mahon's, and I know he will read this, get rid of him, play some hungry kid's who'll have a go.

I went and watched the drysdale and grove game. It was 1 of the worst games of football i have seen in a long time. The only reason i stayed is because it was tight. Daniel Gage killed it. He was everywhere. it has been a few yrs since I have seen him play but i think he would be a very good gfl player

I agree the standard of this game was very poor. However it was still a good effort by a young side to fight back from three goals down in the second half to draw level with 10 minutes to go against last years premier.

Played in Ressies today vs Queenscliff...Newcomb Power boys ended a 38 game losing streak dating back to round 18 2007 (also vs Coutas)...up against a Coutas team featuring the senior coach Heath Jamieson the boys played an awesome game winning 13.5.83 vs 12.4.76...2 long years of thrashing after thrashing (a lot of us played in most) is now forgotten...Should encourage the boys for a few more wins!!
