Dunno if this has already been raised, but the absolute best fit is Brisbane when it comes to mutual benefit to player and club.

Brisbane obvs are going after Daniher atm, but when it comes to needs, Brissy desperately need a lead up forward who can kick goals at a high accuracy. Brisbane’s style of f50 entries also play well to Brown’s play style.

Could easily be their first rounder (possibly the last pick) straight for Brown...

There is no chance Brisbane will go for Brown if they already are getting Daniher.

Stop dreaming

I think Melbourne would offer 23 but North probably don't want it because they already have 25, unless they can package them for an upgrade.

I'd be prepared to consider rolling the dice and go 2021 1st (9-13ish) for Brown + 2021 2nd (<23) and hang onto 23 this year for players who fall out of the first round like Robertson and Rivers did last year.

I think what you’ve proposed will get it pretty close (pending he nominates the Dees).

Obviously comes down to how we see Melbourne going next year, because you can pencil in our 2021 2nd Round to be Pick 19 IMO. Which if we see you finishing top 8 (I would with Brown), it only realy be a 6 pick upgrade for Brown.

Yes that's best case for MFC.

2021 1st for 2021 3rd is a bit risky for me - best case is 18 for 37 but it could easily be 9 for 40.

So the offers are crap or fake news ? Because you haven’t landed any

Oh and you’ve overpaid Grundy massively since then (huge money)

Is this even in the right thread?

Regardless, we haven’t overpaid Grundy at all yet. His new contract doesn’t start until next year, so we can probably revisit this assertion in 12 months.

So who's still in the race for Ben Brown? Melbourne seems to be the frontrunners but what's the likelihood of Essendon trying to get him since well Dodoro has no patience and doesn't understand his club would want as many picks as they can have.

Pre.
Season.
Draft.

It's the off-season's answer to everything.

I actually agree with this, but the club don't. Clearly they value the extra contested marking threat Daniher provides despite his poor accuracy. Perhaps it's because McStay won't be playing CHF for us next year for one reason or another.

1.6 vs 1.75 average per game across their career. Not much of a difference

I think it's probably this. When we're paying our playing our best footy, we're a team that focuses on the high press and forcing forward half turnovers which doesn't leave a lot of space inside 50. I feel like Brown plays best in a side where he has room inside 50 to lead into, whereas we need someone that's going to launch in contested marking situations and at worst, bring the ball to ground.

What you're not taking into account is that you need a mature body to be a contested marking threat consistently, and Brown started his AFL career later than Daniher did, so he had fewer games at the beginning of his career with few contested marks. Daniher's best contested marking season was better than Brown's.

Contested marking is overrated, if you can best your opponent early and get an uncontested mark there is no difference

But During a full season Both Daniher and Brown have only averaged above 2 contested marks once.

Daniher 2016 took 52 contested marks from 22 games at an average of 2.36
Brown 2016 took 49 contested marks from 22 games at an average of 2.23

Not huge differences there.

That’s a fair reach. Danniher also hasn’t played more than 7 games in a year for the last 3 seasons. Who is to say he ever will?

It'd be nice if you'd justify why it's apparently a fair reach.

I can assure you Brisbane wouldn't bother trading for him if they weren't confident he could, and we have one of the best medical departments in the league.
