Saw the perfect example of this on display tonight. Called in to watch a bit of the game at Dower Park and saw Fergus Greene who is clearly a class (or several) above everyone.

You’ve got arguably the best player in country footy running around as a one pointer, same value as a kid playing his first game.

The reality is his value as a footballer is a 6 point player, so you are getting a 5 point discount which is huge.

Obviously we want to encourage loyalty and guys to return to junior clubs but that is way out of whack for me. You wouldn’t see the AFL say the Daicos boys are so ingrained in Pieland that we are only going to count 10% of their wage in the salary cap.

The points system needs a review and the discounts need to be redone. Perhaps a one point discount per five years of service or a cap on the amount of points able be discounted for either individual or team.
Did you have this same argument when Crameri went back to Maryborough?

Cracking first round completed. Wasn’t one bit predictable - every player driving to the game didn’t know if they were going to win or lose which is the main aim of a good comp

I have the same argument no matter who the player is.

The discounts are too big and distort the system, should be limited to a point or two per player and something like 5 points per club. Get rid of the drop a point a year thing as well. Then the system would work much better.

I heard the league was going to run a tipping comp this year but couldn’t gather enough prizes to cover a 5672 person tie for winner.

What should Henderson be then?
Nearly 30 games of VFL in 3 years. And 1 pointer for your boys.

You’ll see a few posts up I’ve already said that’s a joke and I’ve said that before as well.

He should be whatever his worth is, I think he’d be 5 and then the discount should be a point or two.

Clubs like Castlemaine should have enough points for it not to make much impact anyway.

Slags
Maryborough
South

I'll put my own head on the line.

Dragons (Heart and at home)
Maryborough as at home.
South, also as at home.
Square, again at home.

I don't see any certainties next week. When they all meet again in round 11 I'll probably completely reverse my picks

The keys for me are if Maryborough has the northern contingent and how Castlemaine comes together after the round one injuries. Would also be nice to have seen Gisborne play.

Gisborne would have to be underdone next Saturday which is unfair to them. They should have had at least a stand alone match with ? on April 13. They and the team they played could have then have a bye later in the season over say a split round. Gisborne would then be then going into this round with one match under their belt and hence in the same boat as everyone else.

That’s far too sensible of a thought Albury, no place for that in this league

In WA, recruits stay on their points value for the first three years at a new club and from there can drop one point per year until they reach one point. For example, a five point recruit will be 5, 5, 5, 4, 3, 2 and then 1 for their seventh consecutive year at the club.

That is a loyalty bonus, not a one point drop after 12 whole months.

Went and watched the Slags play Flat yesterday as I had an old uni mate playing for Flat who I hadn’t seen for a couple of years.

After watching Kyneton vs Woodend at the Showgrounds on Good Friday they would both beat flat by 100 points and neither of them will be an RDFL top 3 side.

The sooner Flat move to Heathcote league the better

Well maiden gully want their thirds in the bfl, so it makes sense for the entire club to shift, as I believe they were losing their best thirds to the bfl as the standard wad to easy in the loddon Valley. They might have teething problems like the storm did initially but they are set up at the high school, they should be with a good board be a power in 5 years in footy and netball

Really the only question as to if a club should come in is are they financial enough to step up.

Personally I see the thinking as flawed. The pot of resources for football clubs in the region is shrinking rapidly in terms of playing numbers. Bringing a new team in from Marong or Maiden Gully is just going to shift pressure to K Flat, Eaglehawk and South Bendigo.

What we need is a region wide restructure, kill the current leagues and start again.

Unfit, lazy overpaid guys who don't give a crap kill team culture.

Not at all, I’d say the same about Bailey Henderson. Class above and it’s a joke he plays as a 1 pointer.

I don’t see how it would push guys away, I doubt many would care how many points they carry and they would still cost more at any other club.
Who makes the call and decides X player is an absolute jet and therefore worth X points? If they have a shocking year or struct down with injuries do they drop multiple points the next year. Personally I'd rather see the blanket rule apply where there is clear transparency on points based on how many games they've previously played for the club.

Points are determined by the AFL VIC rules based on where they have previously played.

Off the top of my head it’s 6 points if you’ve played AFL in past three years, 5 if you’ve played state league eg VFL, 4 for TAC Cup and VFL reserves, 3 for a senior player, 2 for reserves and players who play juniors with you are 1 regardless of where they have played since. Each year a player is at a club they drop one point.
