Bendigo FL discussion 2024

You'd think filo from maine heads to maiden gully too,

Conspicuously absent from the signing announcements unfortunately.

Hugely underrated player, to me losing him has more impact on the side than just about every player they’ve signed.

They have a couple of young inside bull types that are coming through and have plenty of ability, but not sure they are ready to fill those boots.

Did you just say that and then write three paragraphs about off field matters? 😂

I agree with everything you said though, especially the divisional stuff. That needs to be done, even if it means the end of netball games automatically aligning with football.

I hope the BFL is heeding your words because of the two most important clubs are indeed Gisborne and Castlemaine then they are in huge trouble. One will leave before long and the other is hanging on by a thread to survival.
To be honest I concluded the same thing myself immediately after posting it so fair comment. I really wanted to talk about the health of the league, what can be done to improve it and not personal stuff.

This forum has a massive amount of discussion about the league and the issues of clubs being on their knees. I accept the answers are very difficult and yes clubs do absolutely have a responsibility to help themselves. I think Kyneton tried very hard to do this and Castlemaine are having a real crack. However rather than find all discussion and ideas on this forum alone, it is time the BFNL Board and yes the Advertiser got really immersed in the issues. For example, I found the Maiden Gully under 18's proposal to join the BFNL really confusing. Was it a step towards the entire club moving or not? Nothing at Board level was announced or explained in this regard, at least what I was aware of anyway. All I do know is that they were unhappy the move was rejected.

Agree wholeheartedly.

Leadership is what the game needs, plain and simple leadership.

Plot a course for the game, announce it and see it through. Rightly or wrongly have the courage to make a stand.

Consult with clubs but don’t involve them in decision making. You will never get a consensus and ultimately they will play where the game is, whether they like it or not.

All we currently get is short term, small thinking from AFL Victoria, followed by fairy tail talk about how great everything is.

It’s time to rip the game apart and create something sustainable for the future.

Seems like south have lost way to many to be top 3. Horbury is a huge out and their top end Melbourne players aren’t returning. Believe Will keck has done his ACL too. Square will still be strong and I reckon we could finally see strath miss finals

Jeez could be a board spill at strath if that happens - missing finals with the amount of juniors they have is an embarrasment.

Not necessarily, but perhaps there’s some speculation with either outdated or inaccurate basis.

Think it is very difficult for anyone outside clubs to know exactly what spending is happening. Not exactly a topic of conversation people share freely.
Yeah agreed. Speculating without knowledge is pretty average...........
Must have wanted to experience some of that great culture that Daryl is undoubtedly building there.

See that great culture has also landed a superstar player who reportedly commands north of 60k a season.

What’s the salary cap up that way again, $100k?

Must be a spectacular culture to have so many other blokes willing to play for nothing.

Seriously how long is the footy community going to tolerate being pissed on and told by AFL VIC it is raining?
Wait what?
Heard the same thing from the same club.
Oh you've heard $4k from Sea Lake. Cool.
Sea Lake wasn’t offering 4K a game, more like 3300.
Wait what?

Checked out for a few weeks and came back to find you're still a massive hypocrite.

Strange take indeed, not sure why that would be so irritating for you.

The figure was 60k, someone posted 4k a game but when I checked the maths it actually works out to 3300. If that makes a difference you are missing the point of the discussion.

As for speculating without knowledge, it’s not speculation when the information comes directly from someone involved, who I have a long history with. If I was speculating I’d make that clear.

I see the hub is going to have a nice little month off over Christmas.

Assuming the fixture doesn’t drop today or tomorrow that means it will be mid January at the earliest.

Meanwhile Heathcote, Loddon Valley, North Central and Maryborough Castlemaine are already published.

Those clubs are able to organise memberships, create a social calendar and get bookings made with venues, bands, etc while the Bendigo clubs sit back and take what is left.

Much more of an issue for the country clubs where resources are more scarce, as usual not a chicken’s cluck is given.

Seriously how long are people going to put up with the woeful service coming with a premium price tag?

The hub is a disgrace. I bet the staff have been huddled around a dictionary for the past two months trying to differentiate between by and bye.

I’ve known for a while they are keen viewers of this forum, good to see.

And before you pat yourselves on the back too much at the Christmas break up tomorrow, it’s still almost a month after the MCDFL and other local leagues. It’s not good enough.

See interleague is back next yr wonder who will be the coach any thoughts

I’d be going with someone who has been involved with under 18s in the past few years.

Can’t imagine they will get much uptake from senior players be better off targeting the 18-22 year old bracket who are hungry for some experience.

Give it to forrest, no maybe playing under dekka will get a few guys interested, even a nathan brown type who's gone through the pios from bendigo, maybe Geary even

Probably an unpopular opinion but I can’t see any point in these Mickey Mouse interleague games.

If it’s anything like some previous years when the entire squads and crew from
18s and seniors have been put up in a hotel the night before then it is a bloody expensive exercise for very little benefit.

To me it feels more like a junket and a chance for another tracksuit for the hangers on.

The country championships used to be the best thing in community sport by a long long way but those days are well and truly over.
