Mate it's now in various news outlets all over the state. The weekly times footy reporter, tends to get an inside word from a league official to run with the story. The story has come from the bfl. Maybe quamby will be their next target

Everything is expensive when it comes to local government or any government work.

Like said earlier. Wedderburns facilities cost $7.3 million which is just it and our robbery
Couldn’t agree more ROOTA#6. What happens is local government receives funding for building what is called a multi purpose facility that will cater for various community and sporting groups/ organisations. Grant funding is near impossible these days if a proposed facility only caters to a small section of the community. Any new facility/ infrastructure upgrade seeking external funding must be able to demonstrate it will provide wider community benefit. For example a football/ netball club pavilion will generally struggle to receive funding compared to a facility that caters to a range of groups/ activities.

On top of this is contractors typically overprice government projects. They see it as easy money and like to then have numerous variations which often see these projects go over the original budget. Governments don’t generally fight it as they just need to deliver the project and meet the funding guidelines.

It can be a complicated process and often one that can result in issues between the parties involved in delivering the project, thus resulting in delays and cost overruns.

Is he running the council?

He is the CEO. Councillors run the Council and the CEO is employed by them to ensure the organisation delivers/ operates in accordance with he wishes of the elected members. Hard job dealing with people who are generally well intentioned but often way out of their depth and have personal/ political agendas.

Not an easy gig and I am sure bring on the Council would be a good outlet for him. He is doing a good job and is a good choice due to his background in recreation and involvement in local football.

Just saw it on Facebook (doesn't mean it's true) but I reckon broadford will be back in recess by 2026! Not sure what both parties will gain out of this??

I’d be very surprised if they got a side up in 2025.

I'm honestly not surprised they aren't going for div 3 NFNL. They'd probably get some wins here and there & also have their rivalry back v Killy.

I’m surprised to hear this as my mail tells me they are keen to get into division 3 of the Northern FNL as this will make it easier for them to recruit players. Prior to going into recess they were amalgamated with Yea FNC due to limited player numbers. The club wasn’t competitive in their short tenure in the Outer East FNL and moved there in the hope they were able to save themselves through reestablishing relationships with Yea and Alexandra FNC’s and when they decided to leave the club stated travel was a factor in why they needed to change competitions.

If Broadford FNC is considered to be admitted into the BFNL surely questions need to be asked of many. Considering the state of my club and others within the league, admitting another “basket case” wouldn’t be a wise or visionary decision. Clubs don’t get a say in the final decision although I would think there would be less than an enthusiastic response to any decision to go down this path.

My Understanding is they have approached the KDL and have the numbers for Under 18s and a reserves side but can't get a commitment from senior players until they have a home. so they are probably looking at anywhere that can guarantee the a home initially.

Yeah, I would be quite surprised if they have binned the KDL bid, given Dookie is officially exploring options elsewhere again as well.

I imagine that would strengthen the prospect slightly, from the leagues side at least.

All other distractions aside, do Square pinch 3rd spot on the ladder? Given Gissy rolled Slags in the mud at Gissy if the weather is fine come granny day are the Slags favoured to win? Who wins the Michelson? Tardrew or Bernacki?

Don’t change the subject - rumblings getting louder that the Broadford rumour is actually true. If so the presidents need to grow a set and have the board sacked asap

I meant running the footy council.

I've been thinking about this and think I might have worked out how it came about. So with apologies to Clarke and Dawe, here's what might have gone down.....

Carol sits at her desk, when Cam suddenly bursts through the door.
"Carol, I've got it!".
Carol holds a finger up to indicate she is just finishing a phone call, before hanging up and turning to Cam.
"Why does Nathan Dole keep ringing me just to tell me the names of the coach of each team? Nothing else, just a list of teams and coaches." she wonders aloud, before shaking her head and asking Cam what it is.
"Broadford!" he replies excitedly.
"What? Broadbeans? You're not having Aldi flashbacks again? Acting in 6 jobs at once isn't getting to you I hope?"
"What? No, it's actually been surprisingly easy," Cam replies, somewhat puzzled. "Not Broadbeans Carol, Broad Ford!".
"Ford? A car raffle? Great idea Cam, we can never have too much revenue and we can always employ more staff! You've done it again!"
"No Carol," says Cam, now a little exasperated. "You know how everyone is talking about us having no clubs left, no genuine competition, dwindling talent in the league, no hope or ideas for the future, that we are a complete waste of money and are basically ruining the game? I've solved it.".
"Have to stop you there, Cameron," Carol says with confidence. "I'm way ahead of you. Already solved that one, I've done an article telling everyone to stop talking about it." She leans down to the ground at her feet where Westy is curled up asleep and gives him a scratch on the belly.
"Yes, brilliant strategy as always Carol, but on the off chance those ruffians on Bigfooty don't stop talking about it, I've come up with another idea. We bring in Broadford."
"Who is Broadford? New staff member? I like the idea of that, had to get my own coffee one day last week. Great idea Cam, you've done it again!".
"No Carol, Broadford the football club. Let's bring them in to the competition next year. That way people will have to say we are great because we have attracted a great new club and the competition is thriving!".
Carol jumps out of her seat, startling Westy who looks around before dozing back off on the floor.
"Oh Cameron, brilliant! This will solve all of our issues! A new club! I don't know how you come up with these things."
A moment later her voice lowers and her eyes narrow as a concern seems to have occurred to her.
"But Cam, they won't be too good for Sandhurst will they?"
"No Carol, that's the best part. They are hopeless! Almost in recession. So all of our bad clubs will be able to beat them and we will be able to sit back and say look how much we have helped them get better!".
Carol stands and applauds and checks the clock which now reads 9:30am.
"Bravo Cameron, let's take a late lunch and celebrate. I'll grab the expense account card".
They walk out the door arm in arm, triumphant at yet another success.
"Now is there any way we can get a tracksuit made for this..........."
