They tell me they are going to be ok but I suspect it gets tight in the second half of the year when Stein resumes from a knee reconstruction.

Understand they’ve been told the Maryborough guys are one pointers which will help. With last years players losing one each they are under 30 there, so they’ve likely got 20 odd to fit guys in.

If the recruits average 4 points each you are picking up 3 each time so it’s clearly tight. And I’m hearing the announcements aren’t done either.

One thing is for sure, if it gets to the stage where more points are requested we will get a clear and definitive answer as to how the powers that be feel about the country clubs, I mean club.
Jake Stein, Josh Eyre and Ronnie Fejo are all 5 point players, Will Marks 4? points, Hunter Staples 2-3 Points based on existing points criteria.
Again, I do not see how limiting playing your best players in a league helps at all.
If Ben Brown ( 6 Points) was to play how do you fit them all in?
Madness.
Maybe Bendigo FNL should drop salary cap and points and see how it plays out? First league to do so will start a revolution......Back to the future.

Marks would have to be a 5.
Third club in 3 years +1 and coming from the same comp +1

And Balta is another who will be worth a few.

Staples would be a one pointer, ex junior.

It certainly looks tight to me but I’m assured it is going to work so maybe the club knows something I don’t.

don't play dumb everyone can see it isn't going to fit... Hartley doesn't care one bit and that doesn't bother me. are the league/AFLCV really gonna come down hard and say no way? They need league to be better more competitive more than ever.

I wouldn’t know how to play dumb if I wanted to.

As I said I think it’s tight but doable. When you take off the points drops from last year they would be down under 30. If their best side last year is 28 now you can still get 3 x 5ers and 2 x 4s in.

Stein won’t play until the middle of the year at best, I’d say Ryan Eyre will play a fair bit of VFL with Essendon. Not sure what Zac Greeves is doing either.

No one at the club seems bothered though which tells me they are going to be ok, so either the maths checks or they are going to be given the green light to go over.

Not a good look that an AFL vic employee is openly ignoring the rules though is it?

For what it’s worth I think both points and salary caps should be scrapped. If you can attract players and sustainably be able to afford it then good luck to you. If you can’t…find ways or…

Nothing illegal about having players with too many points on your list. It’s then up to the selectors to work out who plays and who doesn’t each week. It’s smart to recruit “over” as when the inevitable injuries and unavailabilities come along, you’ve got replacements ready to go.

Haha, yep, data error. Sweep it under the carpet (there’s a lot under there already), move on everyone, nothing to see here, honest mistake.
But if a club makes a data error themselves (some clubs excluded), be ready to be named, shamed and sanctioned
Calling BS on this explanation. South Bendigo didn’t play above 43 points until round 5, according to Playhq. So you’d think something as important as each teams points being true and correct would be checked in this time? Correct Points are the cornerstone of all comps, rightly or wrongly. So did South not say anything when it discovered it had a few extra points up sleeve knowing they had 43 about this time last year and started to push envelope? Total hypothetical, but if you missed finals in losing a game to South playing over 43 there would be a nasty taste left in mouth.

Agree the points were set in stone at the start of the year, we know the playhq can't let you upgrade more points to enter a team, what's happened?

You know if admin accidentally gave them.3 points at the start of the year, the club would have noticed

What's this do for South now? Will one of their recruits head back to white hills?

Every club to 46....

The fact that points and salary cap for the following season is only decided/ communicated in Oct is completely ridiculous, and shows just how little is known about running a football club.

All this shit should be decided July 1. providing clubs plenty of time to plan for the next season.
From memory there was an article in the Addy 2(ish) years ago with a couple of coaches stating the same thing.

Clubs know in August what their points for the following year are. I know of clubs that have discovered that their points were entered into Playhq incorrectly when putting a team in and self reported knowing that there are penalties and ignorance isn't considered a defence. If, as has been claimed South worked this out and didn't report it, and it has been covered up then surely there has to be action taken?

There was some talk during the season about points discrepancies but South wasn’t the club that was being bandied around. We at Maryborough FNC were fastidious with our points each week in ensuring we were doing things correctly so it’s disappointing to read the news of what has happened. Through what has occurred, clubs will now start to claim innocence and data errors when they bend the rules (as already occurs in many ways). The points system is a failure and has not seen even competitions as clubs have just explored other options to beat the system. I can name numerous examples of it occurring.

In regards to earlier posts about junior players being poached, I have mentioned this numerous times that our juniors are subject to this behaviour from many clubs who offer all sorts of incentives to get them to come to their club and make up the numbers in their junior teams. The behaviour and approaches made by these clubs is abhorrent for many reasons. We also saw this more so during the year on players at all levels within our club (both football and netball) who were being approached by clubs both locally and elsewhere telling them to change clubs now and come to a more successful organisation. Whilst we will continue to maintain high standards, people do have long memories.

PS - don’t expect the Advertiser to make any noise about the points situation as they are the AFL Central Victoria primary cheerleader and if they did speak out, wouldn’t continue to get those free lunches and be on the gravy train as they have been for years.

Reckon Birchip had an issue a couple of years ago inasmuch as they had put a lower number in for a players points, self reported late in the year and got hit with a wet lettuce

It’s known that the BFNL player hq had multiple errors last year and some clubs chose to report or play the points they knew they had been allocated at the start of the season and some clubs chose to ignore, blatantly cheat it. Playing dumb for the season.

Every BFNL team should get a please explain from the club and the league.

From the club and the league?

Clubs should get a please explain from themselves?
