Bourkey has a ton of credibility inside and outside of his place of employment. Poor formI’m not sure he ever did, who is the sports editor now?

I’ve said this before but Castlemaine people (and I suspect the other country clubs as well) don’t share any love for the addy.
We have long memories and the coverage over the years has been incredibly pro Bendigo, and often disrespectful and condescending towards us.
You’ll find very few Castlemaine people shedding a tear at the demise of the addy.
You are closer than anyone to the truth.Understand you hate the world, but he was bloody good for a long period of time. Left because he couldn't write the articles he wanted to write apparently.
You are closer than anyone to the truth.
They’ve lost a bunch of people who’d had a gutful of the place and it’s for want of a better word ‘direction’ - more like lack of direction.
Australian Community Media, which owns the Addy and owned plenty of other mastheads, has managed to oversee the closure and eradication of more than 60 mastheads from their portfolio over the last four years with a business model that clearly does not work. Staff want change, management are too busy patting themselves on the back for at best modest successes.
The Addy will be lucky to survive another 24 months.
On Bourkey - not his doing - but barely on the clock over the past four years. His long service leave was being exhausted against his will.
How would you be spending 20 weeks of long service leave during COVID at home, unable to go out the front door due to lockdown? Yeah, thanks for your 20 year contribution, how about spending 20 weeks in your lounge room???
His treatment by the Addy was nothing short of despicable.
The better question is why the Addy blatantly disregards and has no affinity for their own audience and is content to produce a newspaper that resembles a leaflet each day?
Bourkey was all class!
Close to Melbourne and there's plenty of good sponsors around the macedon Ranges to help and people naturally move thereSome big signings in the Riddell comp ! Showing the way by the looks

Geelong addy does a pretty good with sportCan I offer a contrary view.
The Warrnambool Standard, owned by the same group, has an outstanding coverage of the Hampden league. And other comps in south west. The Border Mail coverage also very good. And an ACM paper.
Just observations, feedback you hear around the traps.
If it was true then why can't the report the truth? Why couldn't the coach take it on the chin, you're allowed to have an opinion aren't you?My favourite Addy story is from some years ago when the Saturday preview had a bit of a shot at the Magpies effort the week before.
Come Monday morning the then coach, who was a fiery customer on the field, turned up at the office ready to make his point verbally, physically or otherwise.
The catch was the article didn’t have a byline and they reckon the boys couldn’t point the finger at each fast enough.
Same coach went on to have a very one sided altercation with a prominent radio personality as well, popped him down with a short right hand and when others in the box spoke up he asked who wanted the next one. Apparently they all instantly lost their voices.
All part of the great tapestry of country footy, things were so much better in those days!

Where can you see thatI only believe the BigFooty rumours when PlayHQ has the word 'cleared' next to the player's name.
Could that have anything to do with district leagues being notorious for out spending BFNL teams... Majority of BFNL teams follow the salary cap a lot more than the district leagues. At least 4 ex AFL players
Marlon Pickett
Andrew Gaff - I’m hearing is 98% locked in at Kyneton for a handful of games at least.
Sam Darley
Brad Mangan gone to Giants after turning down Gisborne Bulldogs
Cameron Cloke ( yes he’s probably passed it)
5-6 EDFL premier league players
Diggers rest close to announcing 3-4 previous WAFL/SAFNL players
Would there be a time in history that RDFL recruits are significantly in front of BFL during an offseason
Sam Darley …could play for 4 clubs in a season !At least 4 ex AFL players

Cloke and mangan are in their late 30s. Gaff and darley will be part time at best. Don’t think BFL clubs are missing out on a whole lot there. I’d say Pickett will still be handy, so I’ll give you that one.At least 4 ex AFL players

Remember when the addy had the the best footy preview in regional Victoria. It would have comprehensive write ups of local leagues.. with senior, reserves and 3rds line ups.. the occasional best 25 BFL players. Took me all morning (sometimes would carry into Sunday) to read.A good summary Wooden Robot. Yes regardless of what we think he was treated terribly in his last days with the advertiser. I was told how he was treated upset and hurt him greatly. He didn’t deserve it after years of good service to the community. The demise of the addy was started with the new owner, consolidation of newsrooms as seen by the articles that have no relevance/ interest to the region on the addy website and the departure of Nicole Ferrie who was staunch and passionate about local journalism.
Unfortunately in recent times the paper was being run from god knows where. Our club always had a good relationship with the addy but the quality of reporting declined significantly and we as a club were often not approached directly to provide comment on a story involving Maryborough FNC.
We are still fortunate here with the Maryborough Advertiser who still do a pretty good job covering local news and sport and not owned by one of the conglomerates. Whilst we may not always agree with their reporting, they are still based in town and get out into the community for their stories.
Unfortunately local newspapers across the country have been ruined as a result of the internet and the loss of many quality journalists.
The Standard have an editor and deputy editor who have long been a part of their local
community and know and appreciate the value of grassroots sport and see great value in it.
The Addy's management has no affiliation to this city, was parachuted in to do the job and has no appreciation for sport or understanding of the role it plays in country communities and feels the future of the Addy lies in chasing ambulances and getting web hits from car accidents and fatalities.
PS The Standard support racing and soccer and a whole lot of sports the Addy doesn’t anymore and have a commitment t to more than two sports stories a day.
The Addy has a mere two sports reporters It doesn’t take much guesswork to understand that as a six day a week paper and seven day a week operation, it is not even manned some days of the week in the sports department. On a hiding to nothing operating like that.
