Berko Bevo vs. the former Muckraker Morris in the Round 1 presser

Was Bevo right in the way he ran the presser

  • Hell yes! Bring back the Biff, Bevo.

  • Yes, but he went a little too far

  • No, but protecting players is key

  • No, totally unacceptable but that is it, move on

  • No, totally unacceptable and needs a sanction

  • I barrack for another club and just want to see the results

  • I am in the media and need my next news story

I saw the footage right before I went to bed last night. I don't have Foxtel so had to look up what this Tom Morris looked like. This is what came up first:

Bevo's message was justified. His execution of it might have needed a bit of work.nnn

I STAND(with my walker)WITH BEVO!

I am a big of Luke Beverage. He was obviously emotional, but I thought it was an unprofessional and disrespectful performance.

The problem isn't Tom Morris or the AFL media. Morris has ran with a story based on information. Isn't that his job?

The real problem is that someone is consistently leaking inside information to Tom Morris. And it appears we do not know who it is.

Beverage should apologise and move on with the focus being on how we are going to go the next step this year. If someone at the Club isn't strong enough to deliver this message to Beverage, then we have bigger problems. Maybe Bont should be the person to do it in consultation with the President and CEO?

It was the - leave the room, conflict of interest as a Melbourne fan and gutter journalism comments that I didn’t like.
Gutter journalism is accurate. Yeah the Melbourne fan, conflict of interest stuff was unfair. I think he left the room because he realised he needed to calm down, so that's fine.

What I think is happening right now, is the club, Bevo and the AFL are discussing what happened and how to move forward with it.

I think the club and Beverage should refuse to move on any of the AFL’s demand, which no doubt will involve an apology, until they do something about the lack of ethical and respectful behaviour amongst the AFL media and the complete lack of accountability.

The AFL won’t want to admit there’s an issue, but there definitely is and it came to a head last night with that Grub Morris getting chewed out by Bevo.

I really hope the club stands firm and gets the league to change the way the grub journos go about their job.

Seriously who cares about the leak...

A poster on here was giving us the side each week a day early last year!!!
That's the problem. There's no reason for that to be leaking out early and the rats who are doing it should be embarrassed.

Positive leaks like players making their debut etc are fine, but players finding out they're being dropped through the media is a disgrace.

I hope they catch the guy and name/shame them so they never get another gig in football

I don't think the conflict of interest stuff was unfair at all.

Tom Morris didn't write a single article on Simon Goodwins off-season despite it being filled with suggestions of bullying, drinking, drugs and gambling related issues.

This.

If Morris has a source employed at the Bulldogs that is leaking inside information on the record, he doesn’t need to go back and double check with the club about running a selection story.

The media embargo stuff only applies when the journalist is privy to off the record information that could be damaging to the club, competition or someone’s direct well being.

If fingers are being pointed internally causing friction/mental health issues amongst the Dogs staff, that’s on the leaker, not on Morris.

If we’re at the stage where we’re getting the club captain to have a stern talk to the coach, we may as well pack the whole thing up and move on.

Won’t happen. Ever!!

I put it to you that Lever was injured Sunday. If Tom Morris knew this Monday morning and he type of injury he had he was no chance of playing and he chose not to run with it, would that change your view of conflict of interest? My personal view is he knew about Lever well before gameday (Gut feel)

If a journalist knows a story and is certain it is correct he/she should not choose whether to run with it or when?

No different to any other biased reporter though - Caroline Wilson, Robbo etc. Have been doing it for years so I guess I don't see it as a big issue because it is the norm.

To play devil's advocate, it goes back the other way though: clubs are more than happy to use media affiliations to control the narrative when it suits them. Hell, we did it for years with Stevo and probably do it with Landsberger now.

It favours certain clubs and disadvantages other clubs so yes it is a big deal.

Therefore it was a conflict of interest as he chose to run with a story on one club and not on the other for whatever reason.
