I'm an optimist, the list won't be top 4 this year. But so many things could happen between now and the finals it is idiocy to rule us out.

On the balance of probabilities I think we'll miss, but pre-season predictions are hardly locks

So, I take it by everyone's choice of best 22, no one believes MM when he says Kruz will be played as a forward?

The make-up of our starting 22 will be very interesting should we take-up some of the ideas that have come out of the club:

1. Warnock or Wood may still be seen as our best ruck-men.
2. Cripps is being pressed to be involved from an early stage.
3. Boekhorst is the interesting one given he was a specifically targeted.

Assuming we have a fully fit side and that Wood/Warnock, Cripps and Boekhorst start, who misses out?

Waite and McLean are the two that stand out

1. Casboult: if Kreuzer is playing the forward/ruck man role then Casboult can't play that role can he?
2. Bell: the slow inside role was Bells job. Cripps isn't taking Judd's spot so Bell misses out.
3. Maybe Buckley? You can't say he's definitely best 22 after only playing several games last year.

All quite possible but we'd still have some regulars that would be missing out.....let's see.

Simpson Jamison White
Tuohy Rowe Docherty
Yarran Gibbs Thomas
Menzel Henderson Walker
Kreuzer Jones Tutt

Wood Curnow Murphy

Judd Cripps Everitt Boekhorst

That leaves out Carrazzo, Sheehan (who I believe will be a starter) along with Casboult, Bell and Buckley also playing VFL.

Watson, Graham, Jaksch, Whiley thereafter.........interesting.

Carrazzo has to be in our best 22. I just can't see a fit Carrazzo being left out. Won't happen.

Hmmm not sure.

I wonder thatvif he didn't have a contract if he would be on this years list Given his injury issues since 12

In a perfect world we would have but no doubt injuries will take hold somewhere along the way.

I just tend to feel that our game didn't really allow players to shine last year and which is why I'm particularly interested in what Mick is cooking up right now.

Expect the unexpected.

But I like the fact that this season, if/when there is an injury, it seems we have a good player as back up and some actual versatility. Also, it could force some youngsters to step up and I don't feel we've had that in a long time.

I respectfully disagree. There will be midfielders in our team who can offer more than he can. Curnow is the number 1 tagger, we don't need another run with player in the team. He offers little by the way of skills, physicality, or any other attribute that I can say this puts him above any of our other midfielders.

Yet no-one cares to put him in their staring 22. :)

If Carrazzo is fit, he'll play.................No question.
I think people forget how good he is. I don't think his body will let him play every game next year, but his best is still more than good enough.

If he spends time in the twos it'll have to be because a few of our players have really stepped up big time.

You might be right if we had a list like Hawthorn or Sydney. But we don't. Carrazzo is a smart ball winner who runs both ways. Running both ways is something many of his teammates struggle with. That's why Andrew will be in the side while others with better skills will be running around with the ants.

Let's pray that our VFL side really gets its act together this season.

If we have quality players missing out on senior action, the last thing we want is having them demoralised in the 2's to the point where they no longer have the confidence to effectively step into the senior team when called upon.

Heard Mooney on the way home at about 6.45pm was interviewing a Aussie basketballer and he says "this is really a golden era for the boomers right now, you must be rapt" the guy say well we haven't won or done anything yet....starts back peddling..laugh out loud stuff

Mooney is a self important d/head

Depth is a good point, but I will be extremely, extremely worried if none of our other midfielders take his spot, especially in the later rounds of the season. I think his spot is the least secure in the team right now and with Cripps, BB and Whiley most likely knocking on the door for round 1, he could find himself in the 2's.

I think his best role has been tagging but also winning the ball and hurting the opposition the opposite way but I don't like the idea of having 2 of these players (Curnow and Carrazzo) in the same 22.

That's true to a point but I just ........hope........we haven't got players that don't care to put the hard yards in as we have had.
Lose by all means but don't lose without giving it your best shot for team and self.

Given the efforts shown up by Bootsma, Lucas, McInnes and Garlett last year, I can't see us any worse off.
