No Tuohy. Time to earn your spot Zach.

Geez there's a lot to look forward to! ... Can't wait to see Sheehan again. So impressed by him. Another preseason under his belt... Thomas ... Just psyched to see him after a full preseason .. I'm confident he will WOW our faithful supporters if he regains fitness and touch, which he should do... Gibbsy, who is on a steep upward trend .. If that continues, look out!.. Menz a year older - will probably start having a real impact ... Krooz, of course ... Then there's the new boys as well, which is always fun. Gonna be a really fun year I think.

I'm looking forward to having Bucks, Doc, Menz and Graham in the same team :)
I'm looking forward to having Bucks, Doc and Whiley in the team next year... and then Jack and Jake in there as well in 2016.

Menz and Graham are just icing on the cake :D

From his highlights package, he's awesome at the stoppages.

He and Cripps will force Judd to play more an outside role. Brownlow Nº 3, here we come. ;)
Personally, I think that Judd is going to relish having Whiley and Cripps running around out there extracting the ball for him and Smurph on the outside. Judd and Smurph are just going to be accumulators of possessions next year.

On paper, this is a competitive and well-balanced football side. Three decent talls at each end is particularly good to see.

It is interesting to note the ages of this starting 22; most players are in their peak bracket (23-28).

On a personal note, I now hope that we keep Robbo. I reckon he will be back in 2015 more focused and determined to prove a lot of people wrong. This honestly excites me! I would also have no hesitation in starting Ellard IF he puts together a full and healthy preseason. I would love to see the little champ swooping beneath Hendo, Casboult and Jones all year. Kruezer and Thomas are also going to be like new recruits in 2015. And looking at the line-up of emergencies and depth payers, competition for spots is going to be really hot! You can see clear understudies in almost all positions, which is fantastic for the team and building a strong culture. I still think, however, we're lacking some class in the midfield and some young, exciting talent.

Overall, they say a team is only as good as their Bottom 6, and I reckon our's has come a looong way in the last two years. (Going off the above, probably: Jones, Jaksch, Ellard, Casboult, Curnow, Bell). It is also fantastic to see players wanting to come to Visy Park once more!

Any comments? The glass of optimism is slowly filling up, yet I'm still sadly tipping a 7-11th finish in 2015 (but a better 2016)

Cheers,

Bluey

Jamison may like a spot in that team somewhere, thank you.[/QUOTE]

I love Jamison I think he brings alot and no doubt will Probably be the 22. But for myself I think his shoulders are liabilities. I really should of had it as Rowe/Jamison for the time being anyway

There's a lot of people naming KJ straight away. I wouldn't be surprised to see him play a bit of VFL to start the year, expect him to plat 10-12 games swapping with White as third tall forward and back. May get more or less opportunity depending on Jones and Watson.

He will get plenty off opportunity but isn't best 22 off the bat.

Just a ripper effort for a first post. Think you may have missed the boat on Robbo. Was wondering if all the Irish lads head home for a period during the break. Perhaps for Xmas. Great effort.

Simpson: Jamison: Jaksch
Yarran: Rowe: Walker

Docherty: Carrazzo: Everett

Judd: Henderson: Thomas
Menzal: Casboult: Jones

Kreuzer: Murphy: Gibbs

Cripps: Wiley: Curnow
Bell

Just an observation from a few of the best 22s - Whiley isn't a pure tagger. He is a ball winning mid in his own right who was forced to be a tagger due to GWS having Ward, Shiel, Treloar etc. He won't be depth for Curnow or Carrots IMO.
You're right, but he is also competing against Bell, Cripps and Graham for positions in the team. He is no monty to be in our best 22.

Get Murphy on the half forward line, not his job to work the clearances anymore. Same for Judd. Think Docherty will move up to a wing while Thomas will be fit enough to play midfield.

Sheehan, Jamison, Jaksch
Simpson, Rowe, Buckley
Judd, Thomas, Docherty
Yarran, Henderson, Murphy
Walker, Jones, Menzel
Kreuzer, Cripps, Gibbs
Yarran, Bell, Everitt, Curnow

EM: White, Casboult, Graham, Tuohy

Backs: Buckley Jamison Jaksch
HB: Simpson Rowe Docherty
C: Yarran Gibbs Thomas
HF: Walker Hendo Everitt
F: Casboult Jones/Watson Menzel
Foll: Kruezer Murphy Judd

I/C: Whiley Touhy Curnow Bell

Would really loved Cripps, Graham, Sheehan to cement their spot by end of the year

Carrazzo drops out for me.

You're right, but he is also competing against Bell, Cripps and Graham for positions in the team. He is no monty to be in our best 22.
We're talking about a player who managed 2 games this year. So obviously no one is expecting him to come in and dominate immediately.

Nevertheless, I named him sub. A 22yo debutant for our club who is a tall dogged midfielder is exactly the type of player you want to bring on at 3 qtr time.

FB: .Buckley.....Rowe.......Jaksch
HB: Sheehan...Jamison....Docherty
C: ..Thomas....Curnow......Yarran
HF: .Menzel...Henderson...Walker
FF: ..Jones.....Casboult......Tutt
R: ..Kruezer.....Gibbs.......Murphy
I/C: Judd, Simpson, Everitt Sub: Bell
EMG: Cripps, Lucas, Watson

A few points with this 22. It assumes Jaksch and Jones were recruited to immediately slot into best 22 - with Whiley still requiring some development.
Walker to be played forward as per previous discussions
Jaksch to be played as 3rd defender
Yarran to push up to the wing with him and Thomas to provide outside run and carry for the midfield
Tutt to be taken in the PSD as our defensive small forward
Curnow to be our number 1 tagger

The walk up best 18 squad:

B: Simpson Jamison X
HB: Walker Jaksch Docherty
C: Everitt Judd Yarran
HF: Menzel Casboult Thomas
F: X Henderson X
R: Kreuz Murph Gibbs

(I think Mick will want to blood Jaksch asap, which is why he is walk up)

Those who have to compete for the X's:
Smalls in order of merit: Cripps, Carrazzo, Whiley, Buckley, Sheehan, Curnow, Tuohy, Bell, McLean, Graham, (Tutt?), Robinson, Ellard, Armfield, Johnson, Lucas, Byrne
Talls in order of merit: Rowe, Jones, White, Wood, Watson, Warnock, Giles

In 2015 I think you'll find:
- Mids resting in the forward pockets
- Mick chopping and changing with the number of talls we go in with depending on the opposition

Buckley Jamison Jaksch
Yarran Rowe Sheehan
Simpson Gibbs Thomas
Murphy Henderson Walker
Menzel Jones Casboult
Kreuzer Cripps Curnow
Judd Tuohy Everitt Docherty

Depth: Carrazzo Bell Whiley Graham White Watson Armfield Ellard Wood Warnock
Development year: Giles Byrne Johnson Holman Pick 19 Pick 28

TBA: Robinson Lucas McLean

For god's sake get that injury list sorted out this year!

I'd love to see us structure up like this. If a ruck goes down it's tall enough with Casboult and Jones to pinch hit. Has some run and carry type players on the wing to link up with pace and good rebounding/attacking defenders. Forward line could be potent on it's day. Our biggest weakness is still that small shut down defender so I've gone with Buckley for now.

Unlucky: Bell, Carrazzo, Tuohy, Sheehan, White, Warnock, Wood, Holman, Armfield, Watson, Tutt?
