let me correct you,

most good sides require 10 players that can rotate through the middle, 5 of them are in there at any one stage and the others are either flanks or the pine

Martin is likely to spend more than 50% of his time fwd IMO and you underestimate the flexibility in Cotchin

Caddy and Vlas will play on ball but both will rotate fwd rather than back and Prestia will play 90% on ball, Miles I think will struggle to play many games IMO

i think miles will play more when we face off against a really strong inside team - such as north or wce. he will be there to win the hard inside ball. against quicker teams such as the Dogs and GWS, he wont play.

if Caddy and Vlas play in the guts then no miles, I'd prefer this than miles in and both are pushed to flanks

I'd prefer

c. Cotchin, Vlastuin, Macintosh/Ellis/Ellis.C
r. Caddy, Prestia

The round 1 team is starting to look interesting, with a few games to go before we really get an indication of how the coaches are thinking, barring injury I think the following 12 are walk up starts with a large group challenging for the remaining 10 spots
1. Rance
2. Cotchin
3. Martin
4. Jack
5. Prestia
6. Caddy
7. Grimes
8. Astbury
9. Nankervis or Hampson
10. Lloyd
11. Vlastuin
12. Rioli

Are all locks IMO

What we should avoid is repeating the same mistakes like what we did with Vickery, if we don't have a second tall forward that is good enough don't pick one just because a coach has a structure in mind, i.e. 2 or 3 talls in the forward line.

Talls don't win you matches, good players do, a team of contributors without passengers is a better way to go particularly early on in the season when players are their fittest, grounds are hardest and the speed of the game is the quickest.

If Griffo, Moore, Elton, Maric etc are not tearing it up and clunking marks in practice matches then they should be playing VFL until they are, play a smaller faster forward set up of guys that are in form and maybe for once we can get a decent start to a season rather than playing catch up.

The first 6 or so games set up your season, build confidence, percentage and a winning culture with a flying start rather than bumbling along waiting for players to click.... just my opinion anyway

Agree with most except I think you meant poor talls don't win you matches

I'm expecting Hammer to improve on his much improved 2016 season, seems to me he got confidence in his body and that relayed onto the ground, slowly but surely he started to take marks around the ground.

And anyone thinking a 12 gamer is going to come in and knock Hammer out of the number 1 ruck spot are deluded.
Well said i have Hampson well ahead of Nank. He was great for us last year..

Anthony Miles is a true professional, the likes of which we haven't seen too many of in recent times at Tigerland, and knowing how the guy goes about his football will view the inclusion of Caddy and Prestia and move of Vlastuin (if it full eventuates) to the midfield as a challenge, and one he'll embrace and likely conquer. Competition brings out the best in most people and the midfield is one area of the ground where we have genuine competition. We don't quite have it down back and we don't have it up forward.
I'll back Miles to rise to the occasion, much the same way he did when he was dumped from the senior team and went back to the reserves, worked his butt off and racked up the possessions. That's professionalism and an example to a lot on our list - past and present!

I can sacrifice 10, even 16 hit outs a game to have a ruckman who actually competes around the ground, is capable of getting his hands on the pill and is destined to make a few opposition players hurt. That makes our guys walk a whole lot taller. And for that reason alone, I would go with Nankervis over Hampson any day of the week, twice n Sundays!
Though I cringe when I read Lambert say: "Nankervis is a Dimma favourite already."
We all see how that worked out with guys like TV.
Coaches shouldn't have such open favourites.

Lambert mentioned in an interview they will probably run him off HB more. I agree with you on this.
Not quite, he said they want him to keep up his attacking but also needs to work on the defensive side of his game. He certainly won't be playing as a HBF.

I think maribe should play a lord more foward next year as we need plqtwrs who can kick goals.
Anesthetic got you speaking in tongues there HumanMeatball. Though I have to say I am looking forward to watching Lord Maribe kick a few bags in 2017

If Martin is to be played out of defence more then he better be super fit as we need him to spend a fair amount of time fwd also to see some opposition sphincters tighten up. If we can get some defensive run from the likes of Short, Houli, Markov, B Ellis, Mckintosh etc then it frees up Martin to be a more offensive tool.

And in my opinion you're taking it too literal. The fact that Lambert says "That's a part of the game that he is working on because we know he can play the attacking side" IMO means they simply want him to work on his defensive side as well.
it will be interesting to see what happens

We still need to wait and see what happens in the JLT series....

And I do see people's points about wanting to play Jayden Short as he did well....

But I can't find any other room in this 22 and this has to be it.

Drop anyone for Short or say Lennon, and I think we'll be lacking in the midfield again.

So yeah unless something drastic changes in the JLT cup, or perhaps Graham begins to make a charge, this is my 22 and I don't think it will change.
