Cox and I don't even think it is close as he is the only one on that list that changed his entire position in terms of what future ruckmen were expected to be able to do.
It is obviously Cox but rucks like Stynes were doing what Cox did before he did

You missed Jason Castagna.

I wouldn't include Cat B's in the list, but yeah Cox immediately sprung to mind before looking at the list. More interesting to ask who the second best was. Personally, I would have gone for Sandilands.

I think Jim Stynes changed rucking forever. He was really the first one to run around all day long and gather 18-20 touches like another midfielder. Cox took it up another gear by incorporating exquisite skills into the game. We had never seen (and still haven't) another ruckman use the ball as well as what Dean did.

I'm not one to reduce great players to arbitrary numbers. Just serves to diminish and how do you compare players in different teams, positions and eras?

When there is 1 or 2 rucks in a side, they are going to stand out.

if I was to pick a couple who weren't given the highlight treatment in the OP, I'd suggest that Mark Blicavs and Dale Morris are still chronically underrated.

No debate with Cox up near the top.

But ....... he did not change the position for future ruckman. His type of style had been done before, he just brought it back.

Cox #1.

Breust #2, has been the "best small forward" of the last ten-fifteen years. Betts, Milne, even Rioli were up there, but none had the consistency of Luke over such a long period of time

Gibson, Milne, Sandilands and McGovern rounding out the top 5.
