Best Geelong Games 2007-2010

With Geelong's run of consecutive Grand Finals now over, I was thinking about re-watching some of the great games we've had over the last four years. Obviously we have the two premierships, but what are some other games people enjoyed? I reckon a couple of the Hawthorn games were crackers (Round 17 2008 and 2009 for a start), and of course the 2007 Preliminary Final. I actually quite enjoy the Richmond game early 2007 too.

I'd love to here some other people's suggestions. Would be nice having a list of the best...

Best Geelong Performances would have to be in 2007 against North Melboure and Port Adelaide in the Final Series.

The whole 2008 season, we were amazing and in all liklihood at the peak of our powers.

Either really. Just games that people enjoyed. Like I said, I enjoyed the Richmond game even though we gave them a spanking. Obviously it was the start of something so it has some extra value there.

Round 7 2007 - Geelong v West Coast. Came up against the reigning premiers and 6-0 West Coast and knocked them off by six goals, consolidating the big win against Richmond.

Round 9 2007 - Port Adelaide v Geelong. Just watch the first half. The best wet weather footy I've ever seen. Up 13.9 to 2.4 at half time, interstate in the pouring rain against the second-placed team.

These two for sure. The West Coast game was the real start of our run for mine. And that game in Adelaide was just phenomenal skill. Bartel l think was especially superb.

The North game where Gaz goes ballistic and the Hawks R17 game 2009 were pretty sweet. Also quite fond of the 2009 GF....

Loved the two Hawthorn games cited above, and the two finals from 2007 (and for precisely for the reasons stated, although my family & I had travelled down from Sydney for the two Hawks' heroics).

So I'll add the Bulldogs game this year when Mr Lane announced the end of our period of domination in the first quarter.

Doubts were raised 14 unanswered goals later (and wasn't that play of the highest spectarkle imaginable?) ..............

Always thought the North qualifying final in 2007 was footy at its purest.

Theres one piece of play where Cats move ball from backline that ends in a goal that seems to take all of 8 seconds to run the length of the ground.

Appreciate the responses. Agree that we probably played our best during the 2007 finals series. Although I seem to remember a period during 2008 where we went pretty well.

The Port Adelaide game is certainly one I'll check out. I recall bits and pieces of it but overall the memory is pretty vague. No way I would have picked it out just by looking at a list. Thanks. Also good call on the Geelong (Ablett) vs. North game. He sure did play well that night. I think the WC game mentioned above was the one we won by 135...very tasty. May have also been the Bomber-eating-a-sandwich game?

As for the Bulldogs, we've definitely played some good ones against them, with the last the biggest victory. The one where we won by a point was actually a pretty disappointing game. I think we were up by like 5 goals, twice, but they managed to come back. If only Brad Johnson kicked the goal after the siren. Also just remembered the game we played against the Dockers at Subi where we won by a point. Think we came back from 40 points down or something. Pretty good effort considering the crowd and the tactics from Freo at the time.

It's actually pretty funny that we've had relatively few close games over the years. Most of the time we've just cruised to 30+ wins or delivered absolute spankings. Good times.

The best 2 games i have seen are both against the saints last year, Round 14 at the Dome and the Grand final, Lucky for us we won the most important one

The Bulldogs games in 2007 and 2008 were good too. In 2007 we blew them out of the water in the first quarter and coasted the rest of the match, and in 2008 it was all square at half time then we kicked it up a gear in the 2nd half.

The Port Adelaide game earlier this year was awesome, especially the 3rd term where we kicked 11.7 to 1.0.

Both Richmond games in 2007 were good for a laugh, the 1st one for how easily we smashed the Tigers, so much so we resembled the Globetrotters in some passages, and the 2nd for Blake's first two goals in AFL footy.

As mentioned before, there are a few Hawks games that are good to watch (Round 17 2008 and 2009, Round 15 this year) as well. Brisbane game at Skilled last year where we made a mockery of the wet conditions was good too.

In terms of the sum of the parts being greater than the whole, we definitely peaked in 2007. In the subsequent 3 years we only ever recaptured our 2007 form for a 4-6 week period in mid-2008. Otherwise we have won games mostly thanks to knock out punches and sheer weight of talent.

That was a magical play, all set up by a young Selwood. His effort in the backline was incredible, and I remember standing and applauding that at the ground!

So many memories of the past 4 years. I would love to be able to go back to Rd 6 2007 and re-watch all of our greatest games again!

The "beginning" of our run, called "flat track bullies" when we smashed Richmond by 155 at the Dome
North final 2007 where we beat them by 100+ (still remember watching from the stands a run from the backline to a goal Selwood to Gary linking up, just amazing)
Hawks comeback when Jimmy kicked a point on the siren (not a great game overall but a great win, the day my second daughter was born!)
2009 games vs the Saints
2007 Final against the pies was epic

Most enjoyable for mine are:

Round 15, 2007 beating Collingwood by 16 points.
Round 17, 2009 beating Hawthorn by 1 point.

The 2007 Preliminary final being my top pick.

One of my favs was actually way back at the beginning, before even the Richmond slaughter.

Rd 2 v Carlton 2007 - Hawkins was impressing first up, kicking 3 on Whitnall. Nathan and Gary linking up for a great goal. Selwood. Ling tagging that retired Carlton midfielder out of it completely then going forward and kicking 2 or 3 on him. Just smashed them everywhere, I think the unexpectedness of it all was part of the joy, but there was such a sense of excitement about that game, I've watched it probably half a dozen times.

i always like looking back at classic cats games, particularly the most recent era of success.
In no particular order (i think i have the round numbers right) probably missed a few games, no finals included as they are obvious)

R6, 2007 v Richmond (was really the beginning of the run)
R4, 2009 v Adelaide (an Ablett gem)
R2, 2010 v Hawthorn (another great contest and come from behind win)
R16, 2007 v Bulldogs (first and last quarters were brutal, i was in awe watching this)
R13, 2008 v West Coast (stupidly dominant at Subiaco, i reckon even Eagles fans were cheering)
R15, 2010 v Hawthorn (really good close game all the way through)
R14, 2009 v StKilda (even though they lost a game it was a true classic)
R17, 2009 v Hawthorn (best comeback i've seen the Cats play in, great finish)
R20, 2010 v Bulldogs (proved they could still dominate like no other)
R9, 2009 v Bulldogs (classic seesawing contest. close win)

Round 4 2010 @ Skilled - vs Port Adelaide - Best footy we have played over 4 years.
Round 5 2009 or 2010? @ Skilled - vs Brisbane - Gazza kicks the goal from the pocket. Moons and Hawk were awesome in the wet.
