Voss and Buckley in the 02 GF. Both brilliant, Bucks nearly dragging his team over the line the way he so often did, yet Voss proving to be the only brick wall he couldn't run through. Hard to begrudge Buckley being a NSM winner, though if the voting system hadn't been as it was at the time it likely would've gone to Voss.

More of a whole finals series although of course the grand final was special. Outstanding, team lifting, crowd raising moments each match. Opposition simply couldn't cope with Long, or catch him either. Human highlights reel, absolutely electric and one of the main factors driving that Baby Bombers flag.

Just the 2 but set up a couple of others including an incredible bit of play where he and Mark Williams won a ground level ball against the odds that resulted in a Williams goal.

Most underrated was a 21yo Dermott Brereton being sent to full forward in the 1985 GF and kicking 8 goals despite his team getting flogged.

Underrated performance by Derm considering how young he was at the time.

He earned every one of those goals with Essendon defenders on his hammer all day.

While the rest of the hawthorn rabble gave up at halftime, Brereton kept going all the way to the end playing with aggression.

You don’t see that often from key forwards in GF slaughters.

Darren Jarman 1997 GF and his 6 goals, including 5 in the last quarter with the premiership on the line.

The flaws in Norm Smith voting were well and truly exposed that day. IIRC votes were cast at 3/4 time at that point. Andy McLeod was great but Jarman should have got the medal.

Very good point. If we take out Ablett 1989, best performance in a losing final has many great and close contenders. That one by Derm would have to be near the top. J.Kennedy in 2016 and Ablett in 2008 some more recent ones.

Max Gawn's 2021 PF was pretty amazing to watch.
