This is simply not true
Perhaps you think it applies this season with Bont beating out Cripps, Heeney, Hogan and Daicos for the MVP ???
But looking back through the honour roll of past winners, none of them were chosen based on their reputation.
They were all voted for based on having an exceptional season.
Brayshaw... Lachie Neale during Covid... Tom Mitchell... Swan... young Judd at West Coast... a young Nick Riewoldt.. Benny Cousins... Darcy... Crawf.... Banger Harvey... McKernan... Stynes... Millane.... Healy... Roosy.... Greene... TD...
I think people are far too critical of the players not giving a stuff, not watching games, not being footy heads, etc... They know who they believe the best player is. Maybe you don't need to watch every game. Who watches every game anyway?
I see people on here acting like they're opinions are better than everyone else's, but I bet they don't watch half the games either. That doesn't stop them from gobbing off with their crappy opinions, or from bagging the All Australian selection committee and the players' MVP voting.
I'm wouldn't matter what scoring system or voting system we had - people would still find faults and reasons to complain (mainly because their favourite player didn't win the award)
I personally think people get carried away by the week-to-week form of the top midfielders. The Brownlow and AFLCA awards are won and lost based on the weekly accumulation of BOGs... But I don't think this is always an accurate guide to who the real best player is.
I like the MVP award because it snaps back to reality - Bontempelli IS the best player, in my opinion. He gets robbed of many votes because he can play anywhere and his coach moves him around and he often parks him up forward.
Bont >>> Heeney, Cripps, Hogan and Daicos (in 2024)
It's close between Bont and Daicos, but I think Bont still edges him slightly.

You know I actually don’t disagree with you despite the tone of your response. I just define ‘best player in the game’ differently to the seasons’s best player. And I think because of lack of accountability and a logical bias the player’s trophy has a skew towards a bigger body of work than a single season.
I’ll leave Daicos aside because his age skews the conversation towards picking him in any scenario but if you told me I can start a team to win a flag in the next 3 years I pick Bont first. But if you tell me who had the best 2024 season I pick Cripps or Heeney.
I agree that every single award and voting system has pros and cons. I prefer the accountability of the Coaches vote but don’t mind if you go another way. I will never concede though that the Brownloas is the most flawed despite its media and general public prestige.
No Ross Lyon team is ever going to win a game by 200 points. Pies were cooked. Even then, the commentators were discussing his team feeding it to him on every occasion they could vs the Dees. One of the all time stat padding masterclasses
Plus, Flys said on numerous occasions that he felt Nicky was robbed of the awards last year due to injury. This year it was pretty clear that Fly was willing to take that into his own control and award him charity votes to make sure he'd get over the line at the end
You couldn’t find a better way to show your bias if you tried.
Nick played an exceptional game against the Dees because he was not tagged due to the dead rubber nature of the game. He’s one of the very hardest runners in the game and if you put no one on him he will get 40 touches. Yes we feed the ball to him because he finds the space and he’s our most dangerous mid going forward for scoring (you know, the point of the game). His stats sure said so but so did the coaches and a basic view of his impact on that game. Not sure his votes can be contested in that game in any way.
You seem to have your knickers in a knot over the second Carlton game because you think your coach was right to give him 0 votes and ours biased to give him 5. This is for a 28d, 1 goal, 15 CP, 7 clearances, 8 i50s, 7 IPs, and 21 PA if you didn’t think his defensive efforts were there. Sure if you want to argue he shouldn’t have got the 5, but you really think our best mid on the night shouldn’t even have 1 or 2 votes in a game we won?
Maybe it’s not our coach that has a problem with the voting system, but yours.
