Do North play in an additional comp that I am not aware of?

2007 - 22 games plus 3 finals =25
2008 22 games plus 1 final =24

Total since 2006 draft is 49 games. Perhaps your post includes a typo.

Take into account how many players mate.

e.g if 2 players play an entire season, it's 44 games, even though only 22 were played. :thumbsu:

I am confused by your explanation. On that reckoning North have had 1078 games since the 2006 draft. (22x49)

Perhaps the post was referring to 2006 draftees having played a total of 129 games, which is an excellent return
Thomas and Campbell have played 35 of a possible 49 each. I don't think many clubs have obtained that level of performance from any 2 of their 2006 pick ups. Additionally they and Urquhart have been very good contributors.

Spot on.

Hansen is yet to 'break out' but they had great mid to low range success as did we in 05 when we nabbed van berlo knights etc.

06 will be off the charts. We certainly picked a fantastic year to be shite. There will probably be 4 or 5 teams in a couple of years time that will justify the hype that surrounded it. So much quality.

I was devastated at the time that we missed out on Gumby. I still knew we had a quality player on our hands in Hansen BUT we needed the natural forward more. Funnily enough since that time I think Hansen looks far more comfortable in the forward half of the ground. Was also spewing that we picked up Super GAV, as there were much more highly rated players, still left at that pick. Boy was I wrong on that one.

I still think that despite having the better picks, in the long run Carlton's list will not end up as good as North's or the Dons from that year. You still build premiership sides around KPP's, and both Gumby and Hansen could potentially fill that void for them over the coming years.

For the record, not slagging Gibbs at all, as he is defintely coming along in leaps and bounds, and looks to be a champ in the making. I just think it may prove to be the wrong choice in the long run.

2001

2 - Luke Ball (122 games)
5 - X. Clarke (105 games)
13 - Dal Santo (144 games)
21 - Maguire (99 games)
37 - Montagna (98 games)
49 - Houlihan (delisted)

All bar the one delisted pick are in our 22 when fit

our 2006 draft was ridiculous

all of them bar ben warren (pick 69 ND) look like being absolute guns

Geez, have a look at Port's 2006 draft crop

Pre-Season Draft
Pick 8 - Matt Thomas - good tough player

National Draft
Pick 5 - Travis Boak - absolute gun
Pick 23 - Paul Stewart - going to class act
Pick 39 - Nathan Krakouer - going to be class act
Pick 55 - Robert Gray - going to be class act
Pick 71 - Justin Westhoff - has already proven himself
Pick 83 - Ryan Williams - now delisted
Pick 86 - David Rodan - very good player

Rookie Draft
Pick 11 - Thomas Rischbieth - now delisted
Pick 27 - Greg Bentley - was elevated but now delisted
Pick 40 - Tim Looby - now delisted
Pick 52 - Tom Logan - elevated onto main squad

It's hard to go past Melbourne's 1999 draft, picked up 5 players to play over 100 games.
#19 Green
#20 Wheatley
#50 Whelan
#64 Bruce
PSD#14 Godfrey

Actually now that I think about it our 2003 draft is at least the equal of our 99' attempt.

#3 Sylvia (has shown glimpses of why he was taken this high, will hopefully do more this year)
#5 Mclean (2nd best player from the draft)
#36 C. Johnson (Finally showed something, then he left)
PSD#3 Phil Read (handy pick-up)
RD #3 Aaron Davey

Best individual draft for the Crows was the 2001 Rookie Draft (the less said about our efforts in the National Draft the better).

#9 - Paul Thomas (played 8 games for Essendon)
#25 - Nathan Bock (86* games for Adelaide, 2008 AA CHB)
#40 - Ben Rutten (102* games for Adelaide, 2005 AA FB)
#51 - Martin Mattner (98 games for Adelaide, 24* for Sydney)

2 AA players taken in the same rookie draft. Hate to think what our defence would look like without this draft.

In terms of drafts as a year, it's much harder to pick a winner. Adelaide's drafting was truly awful through most of the 90s, with our teams largely built through trading. Our drafting has generally improved since Neil Craig took over as coach.

As mention 2006 could potentially be the Kangas best. 2000 has been pretty handy too.

Pick 6 Dylan Smith (11 games) - gone
Pick 8 Daniel Motlop (47) - Port Adelaide
Pick 14 Daniel Harris (139)
Pick 23 Drew Petrie (154)
Pick 30 Sav Rocca (101) - gone
Pick 42 Daniel Pratt (81)
Pick 60 Corey Jones (145)
Rookie 13 Leigh Harding (111)
Rookie 29 Rod Tragenza (0) - ripping apart country footy
Rookie 44 Digby Morrell (40) - gone
Rookie 57 David Teauge (33) - gone

Like most drafts some duds there, but Harris, Petrie, Pratt, Jones, Harding all still key players. Motlop, Rocca and Teague were all serviceable.

For the Bombers the 2006 draft has the potential to be our best effort so far, but with three picks in the top 20, it made the process a little easier somewhat.

#2 Scott Gumbleton - Jury is still out but a 11d, 8m and 2 goal performance against Freo in just his second game proves he has obvious talent; needs to get over his injuries

#18 Leroy Jetta - Started off slowly but starting to hit his straps, will be a player

#20 Tom Hislop - Delisted

#36 Alwyn Davey - one of our most important players, a pure gem.

#42 Bachar Houli - oozes class, rising star nomination, A grade material

#47 Kyle Reimers - same goes for 'boots', just oozes class, rising star nomination and A grade material

If Gumbleton fulfills his talent and Jetta, Reimers and Houli reach their potential, given the class of Davey this draft can potentially be the Don's best ever.

Getting Mal Michael in the PSD and Rama in the rookie draft was also pretty handy.

Because WCE and Geelong built their flags around great KPP...

What a shit post.

The club apparently has high hopes for Mark Austin as a prospective power KPP.

So who needs Hansen and Gumbleton?

Talls take longer to develop, but Gibbs is a class act and a star who held Deledio in arguably his best game for Carlton.

Gibbs didn't just hold Deledio, but kicked three goals on him and barely wasted a touch to win two votes in the Brownlow.

I wouldn't swap Gibbs for Gumbleton and Jetta.

Or Hansen and Thomas.

Kreuzer has already shown more than Gumbleton and Hansen.

And will be a better footballer than both. ;)

You're really sad.

You're really correct.

Edited for accuracy :)

2-0 really hurts them Jex, they've got too much riding on Gibbs to admit Reimers is a better footballer. ;)

2006 looks like it was a strong draft for pretty much everyone. And - Melbourne excepted - 2003 the opposite

Which surely should come into consideration when stuff like "Walker worst #3 ever", "Kepler waste of first rounder" etc etc etc is bandied around.

We picked up Adcock, Rischitelli, and Joel Macdonald (RD) in 2003.

It was one of our better years considering the strength of the draft. All 3 are key players in our team. Tom Logan has also shown himself to be a decent player. We just let him go far too early.

Llane Spaanderman on the other hand. Absolute space cadet.

Well Other than stated, 2005 could be a decent starting platform for any sort of future revival for our team...

Hurn
McKinley
Spangher
Priddis

2 mids, a back and a solid forward...

But the best has to be 1997... With pick 28... The Eagles selected good ole Rowan...

Yup, in some other thread where you re-do a draft, almost everyone had Richa & Adcock in 2003. Shoulda got that one too.

Surely he can do anything a Spaander can?
