Comben at CHB is the real low point for me. Surely at this stage, he is our long term CHF. Shown a bit has Chom!
I dunno. He's a weapon off the HB line too. Ideally can play where we need him to i spose.

Goad FOS ????
CCJ RHJ/Ford/Duursma Stevens

Goater, FOS, WDawson, Konstanty and Hardeman to start in VFL but hopefully push senior players out through irresistable form. One of RHJ/Duursma/Ford to miss initially. The likes of McDonald, Fisher, Tucker, RHJ/Duurs/Ford most precarious.

Balance looks a little awry in terms of on-ballers, strangely enough, and that's even with Phillips named in the VFL. Unless of course Simpkin, Powell or Wardlaw start in the 2nds too (unlikely). Ideally we have FOS on a wing or flank in the VFL but he's named on-ball out of necessity. Unless Ford/RHJ/Harvey/Payne/Konstanty have midfield ambitions??

Dom Brew would probably round things out pretty neatly actually.

This might be the easiest time I've had typing up a Best 22 since 2016.

I'm assuming FOS gets the Sheezel/McKercher apprenticeship down back, and if so, would be an upgrade on Fisher in that role. I think with FOS's marking and defensive work he has a decent chance to stay down there for a few years while he matures.

I have McDonald starting round one for the last time. Goater likely needs a run in the VFL to start the year returning from injury, and it's a touch too early for me to give the job to Riley Hardeman. Clarkson went with three small rebounders at times this year, so it's possible they could go with Fisher in that spot as well.

I've left out our developing smalls in Hansen, Konstanty, and Payne, and they should all be gunning for a spot. The team balance would look a little better with one of them in the side, but for now I've given those final forward spots to Duursma and Ford.

This team has me pretty excited if I'm being honest. If this isn't the team that takes us off the bottom of the ladder, then I'm not sure how much more it'll take.

Don't agree with every selection / spot but this is very close subject to pre season and injuries.

Agree with you we're short a er, short. That forward six is just too mid sized still although on evidence Darling plays a higher pressure syle there. I think Wardlaw forward more in the short term and Parker as well assuming the midfield is ticking over ok and see how things shake out with the 3 smaller guys. H Jr a shot given his back end of the year at an acutal 23 role though. Ford if he has run his arse off might be able to play a more pressure role as well.

Also, probably the first time in a long, long time that we aren't looking to roll out Rd 1 with a handful of new draft picks in the team - and that's a good thing. Last year McKercher and Duursma were pretty much straight in, the year before Sheezel and Wardlaw were basically instant best 23 players from Rd 1 - which, whilst it's a compliment to them shows the dire state of the teams they were entering. We have FOS this year and that's it most likely. That has to be a good thing.

I'm not so worried about the small forward line. I think that with the line up we have now, it will be a different style of footy from the usual. I'm expecting a faster game with mids opening up the defence and pinging it from the half forward line. Id still like to have someone like Chom trying for the mark, but crashing the defenders in the process and creating the contest.

Replace Draper with FOS and away we go.

Watkins has gone to SA to try to nab a spot at the Puffers. Downie was seen at training. No word on Butler.

I'm just gonna say it, our Mid and HF lines are ****ing insane.

From a pure talent standpoint, that has to be one of the strongest engine rooms in the whole competition.

This actually has premiership winning Clarko's signature all over it.

If we had 1 more elite KPF and KPD we would be looking pretty complete.

Post Draft shenanigans: Best 22, Not Round 1.

FB: Archer - Logue - Corr
HB: Goater -WDawson - Daniel
C: FOS - Wardlaw - McKercher
HF: CZ - Comben - Duursma
FF: Parker - Larkey - Curtis

Happy with that. We should be hard to play against.
