This isn't a bad team

Your club's best 22 in 2025: Who's in, who's out, who's new

It’s a North Melbourne team stacked with new faces. Luke Parker and Jack Darling will add experience, while Caleb Daniel can play in a variety of roles. All three will instantly come into the best 22. Finn O'Sullivan will push for round one and you can expect to see him there, given his senior experiences as a junior this season. Harry Sheezel won't leave the midfield ever again, while Colby McKercher is expected to play higher up the ground. It could see Jy Simpkin continue in a half-forward role. George Wardlaw, Zane Duursma and Tom Powell are also likely to see more important roles throughout the year, highlighting the talent the Kangas possess across the board. Charlie Comben can play anywhere, but excelled in a defensive role last season. First-round picks including Riley Hardeman, Wil Dawson, Taylor Goad, Will Phillips and Matt Whitlock are still to come into this squad, while Jacob Konstanty is another new arrival who will add a nice depth option. - Riley Beveridge

B: Aidan Corr, Griffin Logue, Jackson Archer
HB: Caleb Daniel, Charlie Comben, Luke McDonald
C: Bailey Scott, Harry Sheezel, Colby McKercher
HF: Jy Simpkin, Nick Larkey, Luke Parker
F: Paul Curtis, Jack Darling, Cam Zurhaar
FOLL: Tristan Xerri, George Wardlaw, Luke Davies-Uniacke
I/C: Finn O'Sullivan, Zane Duursma, Zac Fisher, Tom Powell

Emerg: Darcy Tucker, Dylan Stephens, Josh Goater, Eddie Ford
Putting aside what we want to see, this is pretty close to the reality of what the team will be. You can shuffle player positions around. The biggest question is where Comben ultimately lines up.

That’s a depressing list of depth.

Made even worse when you consider their ages.

They should be in their prime years, leading this club.
FWIW my 3 emergencies are Bergman, Teakle and Maley so the inexperience is there as well.
It’s still going to be a grind to get the 6-8 wins we’re all predicting but with a good injury run it’s possible.

I am hoping as part of the grand strategy that we nail that small forward plan in 2025. Can from the group below we see a form lift like we had with X/Archer/Chom this year. Paul Curtis needs a partner in crime up there if we are to pass 3 wins. Some one who is going to feast on the scraps that fall from the Larkey/Darling/Zuurhar/Teakle dinner table. Will it be?
  • RHJ - started to show some glimpses after the bye round.
  • Costanza - needs consistency with his body and just a glut of VFL games. Can tackle like a man possessed, and we need these types to lock the ball in.
  • Cooper Harvey - OK Dad you got me in the door. Let me do you proud and show everyone that I do belong in the seniors.
  • Geordie Payne - Teakle stepped up and showed he belonged and filled a need as a mid season signing. Can this be your inspiration to take the next step?
  • Cry Me A River Stevens - can he surprise us all and become our best father and son ever? Let’s see some solid VFL form where he is screaming to be picked by the bye round with numbers that cannot be ignored any further.

locks if fit,
Sheezel, Corr, Wardlaw, Scott, LDU, McKercher, McDonald, Simpkin, Logue, Larkey, Powell, Curtis, Comben, Xerri, Zurhaar, Parker, Daniel, Darling

Likely,
Archer, Fisher, FOS, Tucker, Bergman

Biggest question is will we finally bite the bullet & drop LMac. Clearly the weakest link in this side

Well hopefully going by the bnf count we don’t see bailey 17th place Scott get a game then when we have a fully fit side plus new recruits and draftees to choose from
Probably fair, but still think he's best 23 as he can run. Slow and Steady sure, but doesn't stop and if we plan on winning a few more games (which we should as there is SFA incentive not to) - we kinda still need him.

locks if fit,
Sheezel, Corr, Wardlaw, Scott, LDU, McKercher, McDonald, Simpkin, Logue, Larkey, Powell, Curtis, Comben, Xerri, Zurhaar, Parker, Daniel, Darling

Likely,
Archer, Fisher, FOS, Tucker, Bergman
Archer likely? He's a lock in the team if fit. Our only reliable small defender who can beat his man. Will be one of the first on the team sheet in the back pocket if fit

Archer is now firmly welded onto that back 6. The coach lives him. His teammates love him, and he now a genuine weapon with his intercepting. Not only that, he is young and getting better.

If he can get back to beating his man, applying pressure and being banned from ever disposing of the ball, there is a place in the team. But it is not as captain. And it is no longer guaranteed.

Need to see young Arch take a few more scalps this year starting with Bobby Hill and that very Smack-able Cody “Flopper” Weightman. Might as well throw in those Hawk Divers Wee Wizard and Ginnivan while we are at it.

The defense hopefully should not under as much pressure this year. If the Forwards can keep it in longer, and the mids develop more 2 way running to get back. We also need to ban Fisher being in the back line (even best 22), and LMac (if selected) is only allowed to kick no more than 25 metres. No more long down the line BS which oppositions take to like a moth to a light bulb. Play smarter, not harder.

Agree, almost had him as a lock, but he’s still in that zone where if he strings together a few bad games (which I don’t think he will) he’ll be dropped.

Might be depressing but its factual.

Like it or not we stil have about half a dozen placeholders. Next year there will be a lot of blokes coming out of contract, going to need a richmond 24 style haul but i cant see where the picks will come from. Otherwise a handfull of injuries going forward will test depth if we are ready to challenge for a finals campaign.

Let’s start keeping the Receipts - here is #1 courtesy of ESPN for their 2025 prediction. We add it to Damo, Caro and Kano’s. Clarko should pin these to all the lockers each month for every player, coach and support staff at the club.

The absolute cowardice of media pundits who predict the grand finalists to again finish at the pointy end and the bottom two teams to stay where they are. Wouldn't want to stick your neck out and be bold.

Clarko should pin this on the boys lockers for all pre season… soft gutless safe scum media going the easy option on their irrelevant ladder predictions.

Ah so the BnF matters now, does it. Curious how it didn't matter when he finished top 3 two years running. I can hardly keep track of where the goalposts are

I’ve tried to create a team in so many different ways but just can’t fit all the players I like into the same team :(

I reckon Clarko likes what Teakle provides so wouldn’t be surprised if he starts. I personally like Wifi but can’t fit him in, especially now that we have FOS. A small forward is also needed for team balance which means another from the below won’t play.

FF: Comben Larkey Curtis
HF: Zurhaar Darling Duursma
C: Parker LDU Kerch
HB: Daniel Goater Scott
B: LMac Logue Archer

F: Xerri Wardlaw Sheezel
IC: Corr Simpkin Powell FOS

I dont think Clarkos best 22 is set in stone until 3/4 way through pre season.

Anyone predicting a Premiership from a club not named Brisbane or a Wooden-Spooner not named Richmond, is suspect.. you might make a case for GWS, Swans or Cats being able win, but you probably won't be right.

Can't see Larkey playing full back to be honest....
