I'm going from memory (I could look it up, but ehhhh) but I swear didn't Pink and Teakle only play in the same game together a handful of times? I'd say somewhere between 4-7~ games at most?

And they were mostly in games where Logue didn't play.

Actually stuff it, I'm looking it up.

Okay they played together in 8 games last season - slightly more than I thought.

Crucially though, in the games that Logue played, Pink didn't.

Logue came back in rounds 19 + 20, then was out from round 21.
Pink played rounds 10-18, sat out the 2 games Logue was back, and then was brought back into the team from round 21.

(Here's another stat I wasn't aware of but will keep in my back pocket - Toby Pink played in all three of North's wins last year)

I dunno... I could be looking into that too much, but I really don't think Clarko likes going overly tall.

I don't see us fielding a team with all of Comben/Larkey/Darling/Teakle/Pink/Logue/Corr very often (if ever) in 2025.
Must be flat out???

Do not mind that whatsoever.

I reckon FOS will be on the wing and Kerch half back. Goater will be stiff

Goater is not due back for while, no? Might ease the pain of non-selection in the short term. He did look good though, certainly has the height and pace we are crying out for down back

In round 19, when Logue returned, Comben went forward and we played Larkey, Comben and Teakle.

He stayed forward in round 20 but was injured in the first quarter.

Comben moved back into defense when Logue left the side.

Have Logue and Comben ever played in defense together?

This is gonna sound overly optimistic or delusional but I'm clinging onto the possibility that Lmac can still extract something from his last few years. The decline in form has impacted us significantly and if he can't at least regain some of the elements of his game from 2021 (and prior), we're ****ed.

He needs to seriously get ultra fit and put in. I can see the things he does for us every game but it is the result of not getting the best out of himself that it looks that way. He can put in better performances.

If he can't, then I don't want him in the 22. If someone is a leader they need to be the ones to dictate the tempo of the game not contribute to the negative shift.

Lad we will be alright……kids are starting to hit peak mode…..if we can avoid the usual million injuries and get our consistent side out we will start winning those games we dropped 2nd half of year.
good post. I keep going back to those games where we played some sublime football for patches. Those patches will become longer, confidence rises and bang we have a decent football side.
Not looking back at the last couple of games as the young side was cooked by then and not enough senior talent to help out

I really don't think they have... and I'm of the opinion, they shouldn't. Good spot up.

Our projected best 22, from
It’s a North Melbourne team stacked with new faces. Luke Parker and Jack Darling will add experience, while Caleb Daniel can play in a variety of roles. All three will instantly come into the best 22. Finn O'Sullivan will push for round one and you can expect to see him there, given his senior experiences as a junior this season. Harry Sheezel won't leave the midfield ever again, while Colby McKercher is expected to play higher up the ground. It could see Jy Simpkin continue in a half-forward role. George Wardlaw, Zane Duursma and Tom Powell are also likely to see more important roles throughout the year, highlighting the talent the Kangas possess across the board. Charlie Comben can play anywhere, but excelled in a defensive role last season. First-round picks including Riley Hardeman, Wil Dawson, Taylor Goad, Will Phillips and Matt Whitlock are still to come into this squad, while Jacob Konstanty is another new arrival who will add a nice depth option. - Riley Beveridge

B: Aidan Corr, Griffin Logue, Jackson Archer
HB: Caleb Daniel, Charlie Comben, Luke McDonald
C: Bailey Scott, Harry Sheezel, Colby McKercher
HF: Jy Simpkin, Nick Larkey, Luke Parker
F: Paul Curtis, Jack Darling, Cam Zurhaar
FOLL: Tristan Xerri, George Wardlaw, Luke Davies-Uniacke
I/C: Finn O'Sullivan, Zane Duursma, Zac Fisher, Tom Powell

Emerg: Darcy Tucker, Dylan Stephens, Josh Goater, Eddie Ford

It looks reasonable for Round 1, although obviously the team should be selected on form.

Not a lot of speed in the front half. Ideally, we should have a small forward on the field, but, if we use Fisher in that role, we at least have one on the bench.

By mid-season, I'd hope we have Goater and or Hardeman in the side.

I'm excited. But that stops being a thing when I read our 1st choice half back line and tall forwards. We've been rebuilding for near on a decade FML.

Archer Logue Corr
Daniel Comben McDonald
Scott Powell Mckercher
Parker Darling Sheezel
Zurhaar Larkey Curtis
Xerri Uniacke Wardlaw
Teakle Simpkin O’Sullivan Duursma Hardeman

Lmac and Jy are in the team if they are still co-captains.

Quite frankly if Simpkin’s disposal is at its worst again in 25, I’d want him booted first. Much rather give more midfield minutes to the youngsters or even Phillips. There is a lot of talk of how poor our skills are, in particular certain individuals, but Simpkin is on par with the worst of them. Even his handballs can be atrocious. And don’t bother bringing up stats. He doesn’t pass the eye test. Maybe the head knocks are to blame?

Can’t see a team without Teakle unless Comben plays forward. Even with Darling, we need more height up forward and a relief ruck.

The comben role is a conundrum. CHB is best for the him. CHF is best for the team, introduce W.Dawson or Whitlock to the backline and toss Teakle. The team looks much more balanced and menacing.

I would love to see Duursma across half back.

My biggest knock against Jy is that he is the best runner in our team yet there's too many times he chooses not to chase his opponent or apply pressure. It burnt us on several occasions last season. Yet, this in my mind, should be a non-negotiable you would expect from your Captain.

That AFL.com team is probably as close to the mark as you'll get.

Hopefully Hardeman and Goater (assuming fitness) are pushing hard. It'd be nice if Konstanty showed a bit.

Over to you, Mick Barlow, to develop Dawson, Goad, Whitlock and Maley into players .
