we overload the team with mids, because thats bevos style. thats how we beat teams/ control the contests.

we lose mids and replace them with others, we might lose our edge

Not only that slow, poorly skilled mids. I know Lipinski and Williams make a lot of questionable decisions at time but at least they have a bit of zip and can kick the ball well. We should not be playing Libba, Dunkley and Wallis all at the same time, especially when they clog up the forward line.

Reporter asked Luke last night in the press conference after the game about some assistance for Naughton as the key forward and Luke just deflects the question by asking if he (the reporter) is referring to Naughton being held and scragged by his opponent when he knows the question is about finding another tall forward to take some focus off Naughton and for some forward line structure.

Luke has taken us to the holy grail, but he is out of touch. He is too stubborn and wants to re invent the game by playing 15 midfielders. It doesn’t work but nobody in the inner sanctum has the balls to challenge him.

It’s going to be a long year but if we continue at this level, the coach needs to go.

Feels a little like the time after 1985 on the following basis.

- 1985 - we didnt have a huge list of stars however we had some really decent players, a few stars and probably were stiff not to go all the way.
- 2016 - as above, similar count to stars, lots of average players playing their guts out and we snagged the impossible

- 1986 - we bowed out of finals contention with a poor season, players leaving and a few lazy names on the list. The downward trend would continue for another 5 years before the next finals campaign in 92.
- 2017 - similar to 1986, didnt put up enough of a season to warrant/deserve a spot in the finals and 18 was a bad year (much like 87). 2019 has been ordinary so far

Not sure I sense that burning desire with this list to want to play good footy at the present.

I guess this could live in any of the 346 ridiculous Bev threads...

Do you seriously think footy is so simple? Do you seriously think that doing all this will magically turn things around and we will skip happily into the sunshine? Do you seriously think that you know more about our team than Bevo? Do you seriously think you have enough Intel to say selections are wrong? Do you seriously think you can accurately discuss structures and set ups having watched a game on TV? Do you seriously think that you, on your own, is way more infinite in your footy wisdom than a bloke who played the game at the top level, coached a local threepeat progressing divisions with each flag, won coaches as an assistant, coached under the guru in Clarko, won a flag in his second year of coach and is surrounded by assistants, analysts, experts, doctors specialists and scientists?

If you do, it probably says more about you than Bevo.
I agree with the sentiment of your comments. But it is now time to ask serious questions about the quality of the coaching which Bevo is delivering. The ratio of loss/win is almost 3 to 1. NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Reasons, in my humble opinion as a spectator who goes to the games each week, are: 1. poor team selection -too short, unbalanced, no buckup ruck, dysfunctional forward line (not only this year but the last two17-18). 2. Skill level borders on the pathetic. This is clearly a coaching issue. 3 Tactically: no plan B. Solution and I give the coach the benefit of the doubt. if we do not make the 8, the club has to do a full review of the coaching staff, and Bevo needs to be under the microscope. Collingwood and Richmond did it. Winning a gf and three years after we are as good as Carlton. This is basically a BIG FAIL AND A RETURN TO THE MACCA YEARS OF ABSOLUTE MEDIOCRITY!!!

The season is almost gone IMO. A novel idea might be to just play the blokes with the AFL quality traits we are short of irrespective of VFL form (they all looked ordinary on the weekend). And another novel idea - play blokes where their strengths shine.

So dont play Dunks fwd. Bench or guts or not at all.

Rarely play Wallis out of the fwd line.

Play Daniel as a high HFF to fix our delivery and finishing inside 50 - like he did when the team was successful in 15 & 16.

Dickson was good when he could kick over a jam tin. He can no longer do so açcurately so thank you and goodbye.

Hayes looms as a right sided Hunter clone. Can we carry another player with suspect disposal? Nope.

Dont play Libba or Macra anywhere but mid.

We are a slow, stodgy team. Pick another player or two who are fast and can kick. Come on down Lynch for Dickson.

Pick a decent structure. So piçk Lewis Young as a back (for the obviously not ready Lachie Young) And leave him there. Let JT play fwd and ruck until Boyd is able to take more than the zero marks he took in the twos on the weekend.

An accurate zone breaking kick out specialist seems essential. So while Suckling is injured give Webb a few games in that role and make the call on him one way or another.

Lewis Young for Lachie Young.
Lynch for Dickson
Webb for Hayes

anď eventually Cavarra for one of Wallis/Lloyd /dunkley.

the sooner dunkley & wallis are banished to the vfl the better. the both are limited players and hurt us.

also bont and macrae are 2 of the slowest mids in the game, you cannot have libba, hunter, dunkley and wallis all playing together. 2/3 have to go for team balance.

also ive mentioned this before, why cant our players shrug tackles or side step? our players are so plain its painful. they all run in straight lines

drop dickson? Our most experienced and accurate goal kicker in a forward line full of babies whose kicking for goal would do jackson pollock proud?

Dicko is cooked stefoid, but in making that statement we really have no one else besides he and Lloyd capable of kicking goals when needed. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

if he stays fit he will be our leading goal kicker this year. on about 25

Dickson is not the player he was. Straining to kick 40m and accuracy nowhere near what it was. Still slow and limited touches. Would rather JT fwd than Dickson or Lynch or Daniel. To same same same same with Dunks, Wallis, Dickson , Gowers and Lloyd.

I think if we moved Daniel away from half back our retention coming out of defense would be horrendous. Particularly with Duryea and Suckling out.

Maybe. Hoping Webb would help. But realistically you are probably right till at least Suckling is back but who am I kidding Bev, unlikely to a- play webb and b - change. May be on my own but reckon Daniel is better used further up the ground like we did when we were good in 15/16.

Perspective. Freo have improved greatly. We were playing at Optus Stadium, a huge advantage to the Dockers and Weagles, we kicked the ball poorly, we have too many out of form passengers at the moment like Gowers and Dunkley, and Naughton was deadset molested the whole night and got no protection from the umpires.

Nah Freo were molested by the umpires .. apparently :drunk::rolleyes:

What happened to Brad Lynch. Bloke starred in last H/A game against the tiges and can't get a look in as a young player? But you'll pick up Sam lloyd a bloke 5 years older with a lower ceiling
