Marsh with a few injury concerns and maybe a suspension concern. Lakers would be pretty happy about that, considering they have been Marsh's bunnies for some time now.
Devils peaking maybe at the right time with still a few to come in to an already strong outfit.
Very interesting prelim this week.

I wouldn't play Maksymow even if he somehow escapes suspension

Maksymow suspended for 2 games so will miss the rest of the season regardless of results. Marsh without Angwin and White as well.

Sherlock should come back in, going to be a big hill to climb now if they are going to go back to back.

Anyone see the Minns/Maksymow incident on the weekend?

Saw it live and on video. 2 weeks is probably right call.
Marsh beat Lakers easily 2 weeks ago without a significant contribution from Jarrah. Don't rule them out still. Been the best team for two years for a reason.

AFL Victoria hopes booted Roosters can re-emerge in VFL in 2019

NORTH Ballarat has been booted out of the Victorian Football League.

AFL Victoria this afternoon announced it had stripped the regional club of its licence over governance issues.

The club has been beset by board problems in the past two years, leading to the departure of key personnel including legendary coach Gerard FitzGerald, chief executive Mark Patterson and football manager Marg Richards.

But AFL Victoria said it hoped the Roosters could take stock and re-emerge in the state league in 2019.

AFL Victoria chief executive officer Steven Reaper said the VFL’s governing body wasn’t confident the club could satisfy major requirements of a VFL licence.

“After significant upheaval at board level in recent years at North Ballarat, AFL Victoria believes the current position the club finds itself from both a governance and on-field perspective doesn’t meet the key criteria needed for a continuation of the club’s VFL licence,” Reaper said in a statement.

“AFL Victoria needs to ensure there is a sustainable team in Ballarat, and one that is representative of the region and is fully focused on a state-league presence.’’

He said a review of the club “indicated issues with the current governance structure in place to support the VFL program given it also had a focus at community level with North City playing in the local Ballarat competition’’.

“When combined with the identified need to also restructure the on-field program, AFL Victoria believes that all of the proposed changes would take significant time to effectively implement and feels that the club would be better placed to focus on making these changes before again considering a VFL presence.”

Reaper said Frankston’s reinstatement in the VFL after sitting out 2017 showed time away from the competition “allows clean air to strategically review all aspects of the VFL operation and ensure the best model going forward’’.

He said any future North Ballarat entity needed to form long-term relationships with major stakeholders and ensure all parties worked to develop football in the Ballarat region.

“We have been able to learn from the situation with Frankston over the last year, that time out of the competition does not mean a team is lost forever.

“With all parties working together, a quick return could be seen for a Ballarat entity in the VFL.”

AFL Victoria said it would continue to work with the club, AFL Goldfields, the Greater Western Victorian Rebels, the City of Ballarat and the State Government to ensure a state-league presence at MARS Stadium next year.

It’s believed the Footscray Bulldogs VFL team has been approached to play some games at the ground next year.

North Ballarat chairman John Nevett last week dismissed suggestions the board’s focus was more on the local club, North City, than the Roosters.

“I can dismiss that perception categorically, that we’re not interested (in the VFL),’’ Nevett said ahead of a meeting with AFL Victoria officials.

“When I was asked to come on to the board (in February) I was in no doubt that all of the people who eventually wound up on the board — some at the AGM, the others who were co-opted on because of vacancies — were wholeheartedly committed to the Roosters program.’’

Nevett said the club planned to strengthen its football department with a new general manager of football and recruiting staff but couldn’t make changes until its licence was guaranteed.

“We’re pretty well advanced in terms of what we want to put in place, but we can’t put anything in place until we know there’s a licence,’’ he said.

Hawthorn’s Isaac Smith also played for the club.
North Ballarat finished on the bottom of the ladder this year with one win and 17 losses.

It joined the VFL in 1996 and, in a semi-alignment with AFL club North Melbourne, won the 2008-09-10 premierships under the coaching of FitzGerald. It returned to a stand-alone model last year when North Melbourne opted to send all its surplus players to Werribee.

The regional club has produced a string of AFL players, including Hawthorn’s Isaac Smith and Sydney Swan Dean Towers, as well as JJ Liston Trophy winners Julian Field, Myles Sewell, Stevie Clifton and Nick Rippon.

It will be interesting to see how the BFL handle how many players clubs can have

Wonder if it's all tied in with what was mentioned in this recent Courier article?

This is the bit I don't understand? I actually attended the last game against Sandringham, and for a board supposedly "wholeheartedly committed" not one of them were in the rooms after the game to speak with players, coaches, parents, supporters alike.

Whilst not his job, coach Greigy spoke and to his credit did it with class, but the fact no board member bothered after the final game given the circumstances maybe suggests otherwise to the below quote ......

Freak!

Prelim Final
Am picking Marsh to get over Lakers yet again. Even though Marsh are missing keys in Jarrah and Angwin, they get back star Sherlock and underrated Griffiths.
They do not really rate the Lakers as a tough finals like team and will get into the big one setting up a local derby Grand Final.
Still a chance that it could be Darley v Marsh in both seniors and reserves. Not sure if that appeals to the neutral Balllarat fans at all. Will be interesting to see the size of the crowd if it does eventuate.

Am watching an insipid Lakers side. Very weak. How do you serve up that in a prelim.
Marsh v Darley Grand Final. Will be a cracker, much closer than last week.
Totally agree. Lakers just can't produce in the big finals. Clifton, peters, Taylor unsighted and unfortunately I don't know if Malone is a good enough a player to be a playing coach. Although I must admit I haven't seen a lot of him. Marshes bottom six were a lot better today than last week. sherlock all class. Best two teams playing off.

NORTH Ballarat has been booted out of the Victorian Football League.

AFL Victoria this afternoon announced it had stripped the regional club of its licence over governance issues.

Yep! They're a bit shell shocked at the moment, I don't know why, I think that everybody saw this coming except the North Ballarat President. Their mood is a bit militant and angry at the moment, but I suspect that once they re-group that they will make a new pitch. Yes the VFL side has to lose the North Ballarat name altogeter, otherwise the Ballarat football community will never fully rally behind them. They need to form a side representative of Ballarat and the wider regional Leagues and not be labelled as a team from suburban Ballarat.

They need to clearly look at the relationship of their Board with their playing and coaching group, because clearly there are issues prevailing. Andrew Hooper stated as much recently in the Courier and clearly Jack Reaper (from the VFL) is not convinced that the relationship between the Board and the remainder of the Club is a healthy one either.

I believe that Ballarat needs representation in either the VFL or perhaps the AFL long term, but that representation needs to be supported unanimously and unconditionally by the entire city for the representative team to succeed, something that the North Ballarat Roosters have never been able to garner.

Heath Scotland has a tough job Thursday night telling a couple blokes they'll miss out on a grand final. No injuries but You'd think there will be atleast 2 changes. Can't see the Marsh team changing too much from the weekend.

Marsh will probably go in unchanged. Don't think there will be too many surprises. Won't risk anyone who is not 100%

The weather should be pretty good for the GF this Saturday forecast to be reasonably sunny and about 21 degrees with a 25 kph northerly wind (blowing from behind the old Social Club end of the ground) at Mars Stadium. By Ballarat standards, a pleasant September day.

Should make for a good quality game with some good scoring opportunities for teams kicking toward the Showgrounds end of the ground as long as the players use the funneling effect created by the Eureka Stand to guide the ball in toward the goals to their advantage.

Pretty good weather and a pleasant day? Winds are forecast between 30 and 50kph with gusts over 65kph from N/NW. Which will mean it's pushing the ball over to the outer or showgrounds side WING. A gentle breeze anywhere else in Ballarat equates to cyclonic at the northern oval. Anybody who has ever been there knows that conditions will be horrendous and the standard of football will suffer accordingly. Worst ground in Ballarat. Yes the facilities and surface are great but the wind will have a massive influence on the spectacle. Feel for all players involved - football and netball - having to put up with playing at that hole. The game should be at the Eastern Oval

Could not agree more. Should have spent all that money on bulldozing the joint not doing it up.
Hopefully doesn't take too much away from what should be a good contest.

Weatherzone and the BOM dispute your forecast greatly. Unless you know something that they don't. No weather warnings are imminent for Ballarat, so I'm confident of a good day:

BOM Forecast for Ballatat this Saturday:

12-25 degrees

Cloudy. High (70%) chance of showers, most likely from the late morning. The chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon and evening. Winds northerly 25 to 30 km/h increasing to 30 to 40 km/h in the middle of the day then shifting cooler west to northwesterly 25 to 40 km/h in the early afternoon.

Have a great weekend, keep dry and enjoy the footy.
