Any one catch what Channel 10 just aired? Jonathan Brown carrying on like the flog he is, going on an incomprehensible rant about them needing their mummies and not being men. It's a fair call but man he sounded like an absolute twat. I'll try find it and link it.

Edit: Couldn't find a link, but it was on his show with Nova I think. He also took aim at supporters saying we aren't man enough to stand up and own the fact the boys can't win away from Home.

We're roughly about 50% away from home under Simpson. The MCG thing is clearly an issue (possibly because the constant articles have gotten into the players' heads) but overall our away record stacks up reasonably well.

Wait, you're not expecting journos and media personalities to do actual research, are you?

That's what makes this current round of media rubbish really stick in my craw.

"The Eagles are no good away. That's just the way it is! Even though it's based upon my perception and not necessarily results. Simpson and Eagles fans need to man up and accept that and stop quoting actual results that undermine it!"

The sweeping claim of away is wrong as well. It's the MCG, Etihad, Kardinia Park, and the SCG that we're particularly shit at.

So really it's the two states anyone over east gives a shit about :$

They just regurgitate other journos / media personalities BS without bothering to actually look at the facts. I guess this is what you get with VIC centric media, " they can't beat good teams at the MCG so they must lose every other away game too".

But you know that any time the stats would be presented to them, their argument would be the same old "If you want to win premierships you need to be able to play at the MCG"

Wouldn't include docklands. 4-4 there with all losses under 12 points. Two chokes though to the Dons and Blues and two loses to the Dogs is decent.

I'm over the MCG bullshit in the media but if we keep putting in substandard efforts like that they're going to keep running with it

It will end eventually, when they find something new to carry on about. Look at how much the club has been flogged by the media so far this year, only 5 rounds in and we've copped it from all angles, Drugs, Flat Trackers, Can't win at the MCG and Umpires.

What am I missing? Apparently our away record 'isn't that bad' but according to that article we are still the second worst. If anything it just highlights how bad we have been at the G considering we have travelled OK to Sydney, Adelaide, Etihad and Brisbane.

What it is saying is that we smash teams at home but then the drop off in performance is the second worst when playing away. It isn't talking about purely on away loss;s as we do win games over east.

Exactly. In general we travel OK so if anything that analysis hides just how bad we have been at the MCG against teams that know how to expose us.

And I wouldn't exactly call that article an intellectual discussion because it's a very superficial statistical analysis that doesn't really attempt to explain any of the factors for why teams are where they are on the list.

I guess at the end of the day you either believe we have a big problem with the ground or we don't. I am completely convinced we do and I've outlined my reasons for that in numerous places this week. We can definitely have an intellectual discussion about this but it has to go beyond 5 minutes of playing around in Excel.

The article mentioned in the other article posted 4 or 5 time above has some decent graphics which explains some things, chiefly that whilst the difference between our home winning % and our away winning percent is 3rd or 2nd worst (depnding if you include Rd5 in the stats) our actual win% away is 6th best in the league over Simmo's tenure.

The reason the media beat up on us for not winning away is we are far and away the best at winning at home in the league, and they wonder why this doesn't translate to winning in Melbourne, whilst ignoring the fact we fly at least 8 hours nearly every second week.

Fremantle is the only comparitive and their delta isn't as pronounced as ours because they've been relatively shit, meaning their home winning % is nowhere near as good.
