Wow,someone got up on the wrong side of the bed.How was I trolling ?
You said Hodge choked in a big match, when in fact he was the only Tarts player to get a half century.I'd hardly call that choking.

Back to bed you go grumblebum.

Come off it. You know and I know you've already read post 552 - and are just trying to annoy me by forcing me to respond again. It's trolling plain and simple.

12k out of 4.2million was a shock. I was thinking 25-30k crowd would have been the least of what I would have expected. It was a final, a bit of spice was added. They had just about their best team. SFA turned up. What happened?
Yeah it wasn't a great crowd, but there were reasons. If you're just hating on Melbourne a 25k average for the Stars and 31k average for the renegades isn't too bad for a season.

Man, and I thought the Scorchers had a penchant for choking. The Stars showing us the light.

...... wait, if we beat the Sixers, the Scorchers will host a third final. Lawl.
And all against 4th placed sides iirc. (think it was 2nd vs 3rd between Stars and Scorchers in season 1)

BBL 2 was Scorchers 2nd, Stars 3rd (... after the Renegades finished 1st but were dispatched in their semi-final by the Queesnlanders).

BBL 1 was Scorchers 1st, Stars 4th. And Hurricanes stuffed it up at home against the Sixers.

So based on that, I predict Hobart will win the BBL at the WACA.

Stars supportes got ahead of themselves. Thought they would save some money and a trip last night and attend the Final on Friday night....didn't work out that way. Would have gotten 15-20k at a redeveloped Bellerive last night, so don't buy the school holidays thing. Having said all that, they did lose momentum with the huge break between finals.

The late starting time didn't help. I know it is for TV but surely and I mean surely a 6:30pm start is better. I know tonight I have brothers...they can't go as the game starts at 7:45, would not be getting to bed till 11:30pm.

I dont like the idea of 1v2 in a semi final. Even with the second chance, that doesnt really give the team that finished 1st a huge advantage. 1v2 is more of a 50/50 game and not an advantage to the team that's finished 1st. Lose that, and they could be playing a sudden death final against the team that finished 3rd, putting them in a worse position to begin with. The Stars already got a significant advantage going into this game. They secured the home final, and they were up against the team who scraped into the finals. Theoretically, 1st should beat 4th more often than not.

If CA are in favour of changing the finals systems to give 1st more of an advantage, it should be back to one of the two systems that they used in the old Big Bash competitions. For the first 3 years, 1st and 2nd moved straight to the final. For the final 3 years, 1st moved straight to the final while 2v3 played a semi.

If they want a final 4 the best system is 1 vs 2 getting 2nd chances and 3 vs 4 knockout. It gives 1st a guaranteed 2 home finals and 2nd a guaranteed home final. It's a massive advantage

Or you can win your first final. You want the season going even longer. It is already pushing it with length. The format is the same, the timing isn't. Matches should have been on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (final). Could have easily played all 3 matches this weekend.

Well on the subject of the BBL scheduling I would have the regular season run for 4 weeks throughout January, a game every night with a double header on either Saturday or Sunday. Then have the 2 semi-finals (current format) as a double header on a Saturday and then finish off with the final on the Australia day public holiday which was a Monday this year. I think even cut the games down to 7, no need for 2 derbies at this point in time.

As for last night, good to see the Canes through as I think they have a better chance at the Champions League because they will pretty much retain their whole squad apart from maybe Bailey if he is picked up in the auction.

Paine, Dunk will be bought as well, and then MAYBE Ben Laughlin

I hope for their sake they are bought as I am a big fan of Dunk. Although they are unlikely to be bought and used by either of Chennai or Mumbai who are basically the two shoe-ins for the champions league so they are still a good chance of playing for the Canes if they are bought (likely). Laughlin will probably go cheap, he went to Chennai last year but he hardly played.

Dunk might get bought by those teams. He can cover as a keeper and he is a gun T20 bat/slogger. Paine should go, but to who I don't know, I haven't really looked at the squads yet. Laughlin will go somewhere.

lol at some of the Vics' excuses for the crowd, ordinary scheduling sure 12k is absolutely abysmal. Probably thought the game was as good as won and were just saving for the final.

Yeah, it's hilarious. I made the point about how awful the crowd was very early on this thread - and they were already starting to trot out the ready-made excuses even by then.

I wouldn't mind betting, though, that at least some of those who stayed away did so because of Eddie and what comes across as the sheer arrogance of the Stars' organisation and players. Or at least I'd like to think so anyway.

Either way, it's another huge slap in the face for Eddie that such a hideously low crowd was there. Especially after all his big talk about how there'd be tens of thousands there supporting him in his humiliating personal crusade against Tim Paine.

They will never do that as they will be up against the Australian Open final and it would be a ratings nightmare. I think what they can do is finish it at the end of the first week of the Aus Open just before the tennis enters the important stage of their tournament.

Sometimes the most logical reason is the most logical reason; it was a school/work night. Eddie's antics are nothing new to Melburnians, you are either for him or agin him, and people would have decided that a long time ago. His outburst yesterday would not have affected the crowd, the decision to attend or not would have been made before yesterday.

Well this year for instance the AO final was on Australia day itself (Sunday), I reckon they should've played it on the Monday after as it was a public holiday and at that stage the Aus Open had just finished but finishing it before the Australian Open finishes would probably work better.
