I just can't get into cricket like I used to, dunno what it is, just doesn't really appeal to me and I used to love it. Maybe there's too much of it these days.

I used to be able to rattle off my favourite players from around the world without even thinking about it, now I struggle. Mitch Marsh and ... That guy. And that other guy. And anyone who doesn't play for India I guess 🤷‍♂️

"Last night the Perth Scorchers made 140 and the Sydney Thunder 137. This is a great contest and we’re seeing something different. It wasn’t as if both teams were bowled out for 40. Alex Hales, the pitch was fine for him. He made 72 off of 55.

“We have become so conditioned to flat pitches, massive bats and short boundaries and balls that do nothing and balls that clear the rope. I would much rather see a game like last night.

“But that’s not going to happen because, the curator next time will say, ‘You know what, the next time I’m going to make conditions a little big more friendly for the bowler’, he’s going to have Ricky Ponting ringing in his ears.

“He’ll say, ‘No I better not do that. Punter’s going to be on international TV, the most renowned commentator that we’ve got and he’s going to smash me for doing something different, even though there’s been challenges preparing the pitch.

“I think it’s a joke and I think cricket’s become far too boring. Maybe it’s one of the reasons it is boring and particularly at Test level and do we need to even things up?”

Bae Kane with another accurate take. :hearts::hearts::hearts:

Agree with him on this - the pitch was fine, and it was bit odd hearing Ponting go on about it so much. Though he did clarify he was talking from the perspective of the Thunder retaining/attracting young batting talent into the side. Maybe he’s thinking about the coaching gig??

What happens if Smith fails as an opener, especially if Green scores runs at 4?

Are the selectors going to have the balls to drop Smith for a specialist opener like Bancroft and retain Green or will they reshuffle the order to move Smith back to 4

I’m not convinced Bancroft is the answer, particularly because he doesn’t score quickly, but if there’s any selection integrity then on weight of runs he deserves his chance to prove himself

If he’s not picked now he never will be and you’ll have a hard time convincing me that his omission is not at the behest of Cummins.

Gossage reads Bigfooty

I’m running with that because the alternative, that Gossage and I think alike, it’s way too humiliating to consider

Can you really consider yourself a "talent" if you wet the bed at the thought of playing on a mildly challenging pitch 6-7 times a year?

Smith's 35 soon, if he fails as an opener, he'll probably retire.

It’s just selfish from Smith. How about giving actual openers who have performed at state level a chance. Smith & his ego.

It’s just a stop gap aswell. If he’s done in 2 years plus Usman goes aswell you’re searching for 2 openers at once.

The openers at state level aren't good enough.

And it's selfless if you look at it from Cam Green's perspective.

Hopefully in the time Smith occupies that opening slot the likes of Konstas can make their way into FC cricket and show some promise.

It's selfless full stop, he's going to a position he's not suited to so that they can get Green into his old spot who's a better bat than any opener.

I get why people may not like Smith and Warner but it really has clouded peoples judgement on everything involving them.

I just think it’s sends a bad message that you can score all the runs you want at state level but you still don’t have a chance.

I’d rather see Green open to be honest they want him in the team. If he goes well your hopefully get 10 years from him opening.

My problem with Smith opening is it’s just a stop gap solution & he’s IMO only got a few years left. He’s declining & I wouldn’t be surprised if he drops off quickly.

Bancrofts played 10 tests, you can't say he hasnt had a chance, and when Green's played Shield he's been the better of the two anyway.

Agree with the last two posts, I doubt any of the other generational no 3’d or 4’s would have ever have entertained by the idea of opening.

And that's fine, it's just not particularly relevant to the current side and makeup of options we have.

Didn’t realise Laurie Evans is leaving the Scorchers aswell. Bigger loss than Crawley
Huge loss, if Hardie and Morris both get picked for the test squad, the team could end up looking like this

Eskinazi
Whiteman
Inglis
??? (Fanning maybe? I think he was named in an extended squad at some point.)
Hobson
Connolly
Agar
Richardson
McKenzie
Tye
Behrendorff

Can we sign another international once Evans and Crawley are gone?

I reckon even if Hardie and morris are picked, they’ll release em for big bash. Renshaw will be used as stand by for a batsman and Boland will be likewise for a bowler
