Bigman’s Training Reports

Been told today was easily one of the hardest running sessions they’ve ever done.

Also a nice moment - one of the lads was struggling in the final running drill. Rachele had already finished and obviously exhausted but still ran across the field to help the player finish the final lap. Was joined by a few of the other boys when they saw what he was doing. Very good leadership.
I really hope Rachele finds the form we think he's capable of. He's doing everything he can possibly do correctly. He's a great club person, fully invested.

Has fitness always been Zac’s issue?

Anyone know how Chayce is faring in comparison, same injury as Zac but happened later in the year

bigman would probably be able to answer that, I’m guessing chalk n cheese

The Crows endured two hours of running at Richmond Oval on Friday ahead of the club’s spell across the festive season.

In what might be the team’s most taxing session for the upcoming campaign, Adelaide high-performance boss Burgess had players run about 25 repetitions of 100m sprints from the goals to edge of the centre square on three different occasions, interspersed with two separate 1km dashes around the oval.

Small forward Ned McHenry, wingman Lachie Sholl and second-year midfielder Billy Dowling were among those constantly towards the front of the pack.

The last run for the day was a slowest to fastest handicap race around the oval, which McHenry stormed from the back to win.

25 X 100 m reps combined with 2 X 1 ks is bloody tough.
You'd need a few weeks off.

From what I was told, that would be selling it short beartoo. There was even more running than that.

Was hoping taylor wouldn’t be named publicly as I’m sure he’s not thrilled about his running but I guess that cat is out of the bag. Hopefully it provides some healthy motivation rather than letting it get to him.

We need at least 2 of Rachele, Pedlar & Soligo to go to the next level next year in our midfield.

It's going to be a very interesting year for Ned,
Off the back of a big preseason, I can see him getting games next year.
Nicks just loves those hard workers
Can he improve the level of his football to maintain a spot in the team.
I know we have plenty of wingman but i think that is really the only spot he may get a go at.

He has a big pre season every year though

Always leads the running or close to

No different to last year

Reckon he gets some sub roles but not best 22

I don't think he is best 22 either.
But it will be telling on which way Nicks goes with the style of players he wants in the team.
Does Nicks go with a Ned or a Cook this year ?

My feeling for him is he’ll be on the periphery again, probably even less games than he got last year

Think he’ll have enough credits in the bank to be able to request a trade, though

I suspect Ned's career here is just about over seeing Keays took and nailed down that more defensive half forward role which was Neds meal ticket. After all, can't go wing due to we're being reliant on kicking, ditto small defense. Inside midfield is unlikely just due to size.

I reckon the best thing he could do is become a specialist substitute.

To me he is still one of our most baffling selections at the draft. Uber small player with no significant weapons. Worse than the McAsey selection for mine. Seems like a great kid but I don’t see any attribute he can use to make it at AFL level

Can’t be worse than McAsey, McAsey was pick 6, Ned 19 wasn’t he? Chalk and cheese in terms of the talent you had to choose from

the only sales point for Ned was his fitness. I can only think we saw him as a potential gut running two way outside player who could run a wing all day.

He has had a few good games but nothing to suggest he will be in the best 25 players moving forward.

Was a very good clearance player at junior level, so I reckon we could've seen him playing a number of different roles

For mine, his lack of success mainly boils down to the fact he's a small player with not a lot of speed, whilst also not having top-notch game awareness. Not ideal in the modern game. Handy depth player, though

I don't think any of his physical traits are the problem, to me his issue is he's got a hyperactive brain on field. It's all mental with him, thinking of a million things he could do when he gets the ball and just ends up trying to do everything which doesn't work.

I think those moments are the ones that stand out like a sore thumb the most, sometimes not having the awareness to make quick, clear decisions with ball in hand. But it's not something that happens all the time with him, he's still very capable of spotting up teammates when given time and space - he's just inconsistent, in that regard

It's the combination of a range of player traits, for mine. No player can really afford to lack size, speed/acceleration, AND elite game awareness as a mid/wing/forward, right now
