Will BAF run in the hunter cup?? Is currently at good odds at $14 at the moment?? anyone know whether it will run? Punters will load up on it for the Hunter and Interdom after it wins sat night.

Only 1 person knows,thats why he's $14,I believe they bet $18.

He'd wanna have improved his stand start manners, had no idea in this race 2 yrs ago.
Also missed it 50+ in the Y Valley Cup before that.

But he still managed to run 2nd in the YV cup in 06 off 10 metres. The concern that year was his 347 meter last in the MV cup! I think he would of improved the ss from then and it will be worth snapping up the 14 or 18 before sat night when he wins and shortens into single figures!

Says more about BAF than the rest...didnt Blakey win it?

I'll pass......not that interested in pre-post betting in a SS race.
Especially on a horse who is barely 50/50 to run.
Personally he's a $7 or $8 chance even if he runs

He's a star but they want the Inter,if they have any doubts they'll err on the side of caution IMO.

Was $5.50 on TAB Sportsbet for this saturday night and I got on at $5s only worry is if Safari can get off the markers otherwise BAF probly wins.

As Sethlad said 50/50 to start in Hunter Cup and wont he be from 10 or 20m Safari is from the front isnt he? Maybe $14 might be over the odds but not tempting enough for mine.

Actually BAF is off 30 meters for Hunter Cup whilst Safari is on front.

They both ran a trial on Sunday 13th January in a Standing Start at Ballarat in a field of 5.
Safari was off 20 meters whilst BAF was off 40 meters .
Safari beat Blackie by just 1 meter in a mile rate of 2.00.4. Last half 56.7 last qrt 28.1.
Blacks a Fake hasn't started from the stand in 2 years however trainer/ driver Natalie Rasmussen was happy with the way he stepped and said he needed the run.

I think BAF has a good chance of winning MV Cup tomorrow night as he will be level with the rest on 2nd row and Safari is Sr1. BAF is RODS but if he steps he shouldn't get too far back and has a good chance of applying pressure without having to catch up to them first.

Should be an awesome race.

As for Hunter Cup well Natalie said he will only start if she thinks he needs an extra run after he competes in the Ballarat Cup.

Ill be there tonight, hopefully they both get away from the stand.

Hunter Cup just isnt a backmarkers race anymore IMO,you have to make 2 runs & it usually tells.
Elsu was 3 wide the last 1400m off 20m to win his....awesome performance.

Elsu probly a smidgen better then BAF too.

From that trial BAF would have taken it more serious but honours go to him and really my $50 at $5 looks unbelievable in my eyes.

Although I hope Safari wins the Inter, has $20W @ $26, got proof in writing, 9Dec Interdom Odds Post last line, really wish I had more, it was a week or two before the plunge!

Won't i be skiting if he wins!

Elsu was certainly more versatile & had a touch of freak about him.
BAF is very professional, from the mobile anyway & probably tougher IMO.

Ive never seen another horse dominate an entire Inter Series like Elsu did.
He was next to unbeatable for a while there.
Be interesting to see how his yearlings sell,1st crop at the sales now.

He's pretty good.

Best by a long way IMO.
I made heaps.:D

We wont see those odds again.

Tonight was the night to load up as Safari was all the rage but really Sr1 was always a big worry from the stand and the others really aren't in the same league.

IMO the only other horse that can push BAF is Slip n Slide.

He was great again tonight, unfortunately the race was over once he got to the death.
56.3 home gave nothing else a chance with death, sprint lane & leader filling the trifecta.

A couple that pulled ground were SLB who went fantastic after going roughly on the corner & BGJ who copped the interference from SLB.
The other horse that ran out of its skin was The Quiet Village at 200/1.
Is it ready to win a handy race?

Safari....he was hanging with a lap to go.
Unfortunately he can never back up those massive performances...alls not well there.

Ah well i have done it to myself once again going against a champ when i shouldn't. had a first 4 in the race but was tossing up who to take as my standout between the champ and Safari. Of course i took the latter after talking myself into it and was left disgusted even with a lap and a half to go when it was all over.

First 4 payed $2180

**** i'm an idiot sometimes. GOD DAMNIT

Got the multi with Good Lookin Girl :thumbsu:

Race was over after about 20 meters, nearly impossible to see him being beaten in the ID final.

Did get the $18 on Sportsbet a fortnight ago for the Hunter Cup. Expect single figures when it reopens tomorrow. VG win last night, stepped away beautifully.

The only reason BAF was showing $18 is because it is highly likely that he wont even start.
Now it is probably even more likely that he wont start.
I guess we will see but that is why the odds have been so big for Hunter Cup.

And the EI thing probably had an impact too, they may not start in the Hunter, they'd be mad not to but I understand they have bigger fish to fry.

EI hasnt affected how horses perform. If anything the horses that went for long spells because of it will be better for it, whether they got the flu or not.
The only thing Rasmussen is looking at is having him through the Semi and to win the Inter final, whether he needs 10runs in between now and then or needs 0runs! Id say Ballarat Cup, doesnt need a 30m gutbuster that much on last nights run!

Whether the horses were able to come down to Victoria in time, be fit enough etc was the issue I referred to.

Good luck to them if they snub the Hunter Cup, someone else will be happy to grab the prizemoney.

The horse hadnt run for 6 weeks before last night. They aren't allowed to run at Geelong as they're exempt from the first round of heats. Surely running on Jan 26, Feb 3, Feb 23 and March 1 isn't very taxing!

Probably didnt want to run, they had an oppurtunity (maybe 2) before going into quarintine in QLD, Rasmussen clearly wont risk any over-racing. And if it happens that he hasnt got enough runs under his belt a FFA in the country, or a 3horse race between Atomic Ark and Good Lookin Girl and himself wouldnt be too hard to do, and running a 2.00.4 mile rate over 2240, running home in 1.58.2, 56.7 is as good a trial you will get a week before proving yet again your the best in the land!
Ballarat Cup, Hunter Cup and any other race mean nothing now. In face even the Inter means nothing $wise for Rasmussen. Its all about a 3rd Inter.
Topliners regualarly dont race for 4-6 weeks anyhow, and his preparation was already underway so no harm done, and when you have 2 of the top4 challengers to your crown as the best in your state (QLD) to do trackwork with theres even less harm done.

Actually Rasmussen isnt just worried about the Inter, she is worried about MagpieScouser too!

From harness.org.au:

"NR outlined that Blacky had pulled up well & will now take his place in next weeks Gp1 Ballarat up over 2710m
whilst a start in the $400K AG Hunter Cup on Feb 3 is still very doubtful but not completely out of the question"

seth

Rasmussen - "It’s still debatable whether we’ll got to the Hunter Cup"
Seems to be leaning towards going for it, I dont think she will though.

three times a week lol if you want to **** them for the rest of the preparation.
Yes the Inter did require them too race 3 times a week, but all the competition was doing it as well and genuinely it was the grand final, end of the prep, and they wouldnt have raced for a good 2-3 weeks before unless they were mad! And last year with the early Inter when horses tried to back up in the Hunter they were smoked by Sting Lika Bee.
BAF showed he is race fit and that run plus Ballarat will do even more, why over-race him.
BAF - April2 win with what 5-6week let up for 2nd in May8 QLD Sires 3yo Heat, Wins Final week later goes for spell.
BAF - Dec21 2005 win, Jan21 2006 Win.
BAF - July29, Oct17. Hardly a spell, one or two week let up after having 2-3 starts back from spell, wins 4/next5 with 2nd in Miracle Mile.
BAF- Dec8 2007, Jan19 2008, demolishes Gp1 class field.
