I'm starting to agree a bit more transparency would be ideal. Am I meant to know what returning to skill training means, and why Cuningham would be doing that after returning a couple of weeks ago.

For those playing along at home:
Marchbank has now missed 8 weeks with a calf strain dating back to an intraclub match sim in early March and given he is just being introduced to skills training this week that will likely climb to at least 10 before he is available for senior selection
- Martin is up to 5 week out since his “calf tightness” after the Richmond game and will be re-introduced to skills training next week that’ll likely he would have missed at least misses 7 before he is available for selection…at which time we will most likely rush him back (“because he’s class”) and he’ll reinjure said calf
- Gov who we were assured was fine by Voss post match against North is likely to miss his second game this week with a knock to the calf so you’ve got to think he’s doubtful for the flight to Perth…unless he has teed it up with his manager to meet the Eagles (good riddance)
- Cunners has now missed 3 games since suffering “calf tightness” after the GWS reserves game and will be introduced to skills next week so the earliest we can expect him to be available in round 8 or 9…2024

A lot of familiar names experiencing familiar injury problems resulting in the same underperforming players needing to be selected in the league.

Despite Voss’ post Round 23 loss comments the “hard decisions” by list management were on the whole avoided at the end of last year and here we are again.

It’s not bad luck anymore people, it’s just plain bad management.

I think skill training alludes to "easing in" to training workload. Not involved in hard stuff, more the handballs, kicking and marking stuff... no tackling, sprinting, or match sim type things.

Skills training is skills training, not contact drills.

Cuningham returned a couple of weeks ago and immediately tweaked a calf, hence his latest absence. This has been communicated, but if we're being honest should probably be considered the default position. Cunners is either in the seniors and we can all get excited, or he's injured. Anything in between is pretty much irrelevant :p

No way will it be 1-2 weeks for Saad. If it’s 1-5 weeks for tightness then a strain is probably worth 6-8 weeks. Plus you have skills training session 2-3 weeks. Then he could be a chance to make it the afl warmup and get tightness which will be 1-2 weeks.

All up we may see Saad back by round 16.
I've got him penciled in for a full 2025 preseason. Will be ripe and ready to go!

Saad is a good trainer, very professional and quite resilient. Of all the people on the list he’s probably one of the few I have some confidence in being about to recover in that timeline.

Agree with that. Standard time for a grade 1 hamstring strain is 2-3 weeks. What's been reported is about that. I'd be surprised if he takes longer.

People are seriously whinging about a detailed up to date injury list, seriously.

I think people are rightly getting frustrated with the recurring injuries to the same players, many of whom we were told were on individual training plans designed to get the best out of them. So far those efforts have amounted to very little in particular for Cunners, Marchy and Martin who between them have played the combined sum of 1 league and 1 reserves game since the start of March.

Also there are some transparency issues creeping in, for example:
- Voss said “No, no he’s ok, it was just precautionary” when asked if Gov was injured after the North game only for him to miss 1 probably 2 games. At best it was naive - how would he know straight after the game without seeing how the injury settled - at worst he was lying.
- we’ve been told Martin has been a test to play the last few weeks only to be now told he is being introduced to skills training next week which suggests he is still a way off
- same as the above for Cunnners
- we were told last week Marchy was back training again last week but we now know that meant reintroduced to skills training which also implies he is still a way off having already missed 8 week

it is actually not that at all. It is different now than it was 15-20 years ago. a calf injury only use to be 2 weeks back then, now it is longer because the players run more in games and the game style is different. The management team has to have the player ready to play and be able to run games out.

I'm a bit confused. Didn't you post yesterday that Saad and McGovern were good to go like you had inside info?

Then this morning it was Saad slight strain (from you) 1 - 2 weeks.

Now (trying to make a point I think) you think he'll be out for 10.

Seems to be a fair change in info and attitude.

To be fair, he got through to the warm-up of the next game. It's not like it was a 2 week injury on the day.

I struggle to understand the greater transparency line.

No injury has a set timeline, only estimates, as they all respond differently to rehab and workloads.

Not sure how more detailed a report should be, instead of returning to skills work, unless people want to know each drill a player is involved in.

Anyway, hopefully with most of our injured players not far away, we start to get better continuity and a better calibre of player back on the park

Some people think that while the player is recovering, they are also doing drills. When it says 2 weeks, that could be 2 weeks until they are back into training mode to get ready to play.

I'm in the "what difference does it make to supporters, corner" it is what it is. I'd be more pissed off if we are selecting players carrying injuries while healthy substitute's are in the VFL, and then make the "but of course he's not playing well this season, he's carrying an injury" excuse.

Haven’t Richmond stopped staying weeks/rounds altogether and just grouping everything as indefinite or short, medium or long term?
