Exactly what someone replied to the tweet with.

1. Players and agents talk
2. Pickerings company manages a number of Carlton and Sydney players so they'd be aware of where the clubs sit

The Age understands that the club’s agreement with sponsor Nike expires at the end of this season and that the Blues will be wearing Puma gear as of round one, 2020.

Can absolutely see Butler being spooked and going elsewhere if multiple offers come. I still think (and we'd surely have told him) that a Best 22 spot is there for the taking as a pressure small forward if he works hard.

But with two smalls moving clubs, I can see the media pushing his value up (possibly at the behest of his manager) and another club overpaying for his services.

For me, he either comes for a late pick and sticks to the mooted pre-approved deal OR goes to another club for a 2nd/early 3rd rounder.
Casboult's trade value is likely to never be higher than it is now

I'm not saying we trade him - he'll be valuable for us next season - but maybe it is at least worth testing market value. Gold Coast might be willing to pay a premium for him right now
EFA

I actually think Levi should be on the radar of multiple clubs to be honest - Pies one of those. I hope we retain him on a 2 year deal (with triggers perhaps for that 2nd year) as he's been valuable as all hell this year and one of our best most weeks.

Fair call. Maybe travel time. Would also make sense in NT given the zoning distribution that Sins now have?

For the AFL, not enough people or money to make it appealing.

For any team up there, would become an absolute fortress, solely due to the weather conditions (once the team got used to it).
That said, it would be hell for the players, from hot to cold every second week.

Not wet though, AFL players don't seem to like playing in the rain.

Sponsorship? Industry? Not sure. Interesting proposition and games are being played there already so, not an unknown entity.

Has too much value for us to consider trading him.

I think the population of the NT is 250,000 and it is a very large sparse area.

A full time team will never survive. Where does their sponsorship money come from? Crowd numbers are only a small piece of the pie when you consider everything else that comes with it.

Have to give quality to get quality.
Levi is valuable to us but not untouchable.

Same Timmy Watson who doesn't know what's going on with Joe Daniher?

He needs to stick to his own lane..

Same Timmy Watson that said Joe Daniher is worth 2 x 1st round picks!

Another factor is football is played in the wet season in Darwin so oct-mar.

Would be an interesting experience playing football in Darwin where everyone is in cricket season.

Just putting my SOS hat on and engaging in a bit of wishful thinking.
  1. Given Gold Coast have no interest in gathering points, their only trade incentive is to go higher up the order if they don't get a proven player.
    1. Trade 2020 1st > Martin, 2019 pick 56, 2020 2nd round
  2. Similarly, Brisbane are probably looking more for quality over quantity of draftees given their rise up the ladder.
    1. Trade pick 9 > pick 16 and 34
  3. I'm not sure about the likelihood of Sydney accepting this, perhaps we would need to throw in another lower pick to give them more points as a sweetener
    1. Trade pick 16 > Tom Papley
  4. I think Dan Butler is worth pursuing too.
    1. Trade pick 56 > Dan Butler
  5. Even with Eddie being contracted, I don't think the Crows can expect much for him.
    1. Trade pick 73 > Eddie Betts
Leaves us with Papley, Martin, Butler, Betts and picks 34, 41 and 46 if we wanted to take three draftees. We've lost our first round pick for 2020 but we have two second rounders and our third with which I think we'd be a good chance to be able to upgrade for a first next year given all the bidding that will be going on.

Casboult suddenly has too much value for the club, to trade? He was reasonable down back when we were without Jones, and handy at times up forward.. i'm not sure he is irreplaceable now
Not irreplaceable but wouldn’t make sense for us to lose him. If we trade him which player we gonna get that adds more value to our team than him. Cas is very unique as he can play forward back and ruck ..

Tassie would also draw from Melbourne. I'm a Tasmanian and live in Melbourne and I would ABSOLUTELY be a dual Blues and Tassie member. I know of many others who are the same. Half their games would be played here so they would gain thousands of extra members in this city without any effort at all.
I'd love to see a team in Tassie, I'm just pointing out that Green Bay isn't really a great example as it is close to a fairly big city and has an entire state with a solid population behind them.

Tassie's population had been stagnant for a number of years (with regression even), a fact that would have been holding them back as a chance to have a team. That has changed in recent years with some solid growth, it's now getting to the stage where the numbers are stacking up more and more and in my opinion it is inevitable that they will be granted a team, it's a question of when not if.

So who do we think this mystery mid could be? Seems we've got our 3 targets pretty well locked in, pending deals.

This other player is the only ? leading into Trade Period. My thoughts/interpretation:

Has to be someone of note.
Is a predominant midfielder.
Unlikely to be older (28+) or top young (21 or younger).
Hasn't been overly talked about or linked to us directly.
Has to he at least one reason for their wanting to come to us.

Guesses, people?

But does he do any of those roles.. sufficiently and constantly well?
In 2019? Abso-f***inglutely.

Apparently we’ve joined Collingwood in the race for Tom Cutler of the Lions. Is he worth chasing?
Costs nothing but cap space and fills a need as an outside runner and goal threat. I'm keen.
