Dodo testing Austin and hoping for some anchoring bias with Austin. However both would have a pretty clear idea what the zopa looks like.

So in return Austin should offer a 3rd round pick for Saad with a wink and then the real negotiations start.

7 is maximum for us to pay as we can always use that in the national draft to pick up Saad.

If we split 7 with Geelong or Brisbane we just use one for Saad in the draft and pick a kid with the other and the dodobird gets nothing.

De Goey - no thanks. He'd cost us way too much, for a player who seems... problematic.

Not sure why there’s so much pushback on DeGoey. Just my opinion, but if I had my choice of any player in the league to bring to Carlton, it would be him. He’s a genuine match winner.

And I must know very little about the game, because I wouldn’t have Clayton Oliver in our twos.

But what do I know.

No, anchoring bias would be something which favours Essendon but still something we could reasonably say "well its high, but its not crazy high and push come to shove I'll pay it if need be". An anchor for Essendon would be pick 7 + Dow/SPS. Its a lot, but its reasonable to Essendon and not so far beyond the realm of possibility that we would pay it. That says, "we can work with this".

Out of interest - which role would you see JDG playing?
Undeniably a match winner on his day, but where would you have him play for us?

I’d play him exactly like those Richmond scum play Dustin Martin. “Centre forward”. I don’t like the term, but I’d play him in every centre bounce, and then he drifts into the fifty, and stays there, until the next centre bounce.
He’s the best one on one player in the comp.

This is off topic but do any of you hate the cats more than the pies? I for one cannot stand the cats and hope Collingwood win tomorrow night lol

Hate them both. WCE had a chance to knock them both off but choked last week...and you can add Rich, Haw and Ess to that list...Hate 'em

Aren’t Essendoom after Jye Caldwell from GWS? If so they should ask DodoBird for pick 6, Daniher and Saad...

oops can’t do that one?

How about pick 6, Merret and Ridley?

A good story till the word chequebook...saw one of those on antiques roadshow recently............

Im 52. Got divorced 24 years ago.

Edit; 26 years ago. Time flies. 😆

Cripps, DeGoey, Zac Williams, starting mids. Walsh and Williamson (Saad to replace him off half back) on the wings. TDK, starting ruck.

It wouldn’t get much better than that.
Piss off back to the GWS Board...

Deludedoro doing what he always has, taking the p155
Egomaniac
He does not hold the whip hand in this deal for Saad
I hope Austin sticks it to him right off the bat
Sick of this Essendope clown stalling trades
Couper (formerly Westernblue)
they dont just stall trades the prevent them. his delay result in teams missing out on the trades due to the dominoes not falling as they should. I honestly believe he thrives on getting his men and making sure he stuffs everyone else up.

The anchor for them should be #7 on it's own

Our perception for sure. Theirs is just a little sugar on top. But pick 7 + a youngish not quite developed player says "this is our goal. We're committed to a rebuild and this is one of our preferred starting points". Gives us an understanding of what theyre after and what they hope to achieve over the next two to three years.

Pick 7 + Charlie/Walsh says "we think we're ready to challenge so reach for the sky and empty your pockets".

Always need to weigh the risk of taking a player. Some with an injury history are a good calculated risk if you believe you can rehabilitate the problem, some are beyond help through no fault of their own.

Then there is the potential for the off-field stuff to be a distraction; fitness, drugs, alcohol, moving interstate, partner and family and so on. Pending criminal charges is a whole new level, DeGoey could be banned from playing altogether and the AFL would give us nothing in the way of assistance if that happened.

We are not so well placed we can throw away multiple high draft picks for a player that has a much higher chance than average of never playing again. All players are a health risk, why gamble on someone who unnecessarily adds more non-playing risk?

Agree re. Dodo.

Oliver has his strengths but nobody seems to notice the horror kicking and selfishness. No defensive running. Handballs short to get it back when a better option was available. He's a SuperCoach player. If that's all you looked at he's a star. This is not the player we need when kicking into the forward line is a massive problem already.
If Oliver (or Curnow, or Cripps) is kicking inside forward 50, you're not doing it right, not when you've got players like Martin, Williamson, SPS, Kennedy, Setterfield, Newnes or Murphy in the same team.

Players aren't meant to be generalists, and those that are tend toward getting filtered out for specialists in preferred areas. If we get Oliver and use his kicking, it would be the wrong way to use him.

It’s because De Goey literally has pending sexual assault charges hanging over him.

He might well be the next Dustin Martin but as a club you simply can’t ignore that.

I also think he would be a fantastic footballer to have in our team. But paying him big money while overlooking a sexual assault court date is, at best, horrible optics...

I understand all that. And I agree.

However, he’s twice the player Dustin Martin is, and I’m certain Carlton, just like Collingwood, would be right across his personal situation, and would take all of that into consideration, and act appropriately.

From a pure footballing perspective, I’d get him even if it meant he was the highest paid player at our club.

Thats a horrific take, degoey isn't even the best in the comp at his position, let alone the best 'matchwinner' in the comp. If you think Oliver isn't any good then you've got issues. Like serious issues. Can understand not wanting him for fit or cost but if you think he's not even a two's player theres something seriously wrong with your ability to judge football.
