I saw some posts over on the main board from Soapy v saying Clarkson has said NO and that Lyon is not in the picture. He said Pyke looks to be strong candidate. Said Sayers wants to build a strong footy department and has spoken to numerous people about the footy manager role.

So get a lot of indigenous players
Get Eddie back to help and encourage
Then get a coach who allowed the most despicable camp in afl history to occur and continue.
Where it is known the indigenous players suffered greatly as a result....
But all this is ok because?

The way Cripps goes about his game is such a disappointment. He will run into the opposition player on purpose as if to show how big and strong he is, while taking on contact he is off-balance and majority of the time his handballs are ineffective, turnovers or go to one of our players who is already under pressure themselves. Yes, it looks pretty impressive what he did to Rowell, taking him on shrugging him off and delivering to Honey. But that was one time it worked out compared to how many times he's stuffed it up?

What happened to taking the first option with a well-directed handball. For some reason he thinks he has to take on the opposition tackler every single time.

100% agree. His onfield leadership as the captain is really poor. Let him focus next year on (a) getting his body right and (b) being an onfield leader by living the mantra, "doing the right thing is not the problem; knowing what the right thing is...that's the challenge"

This is the endless loop we keep going around. Is the list any good or not? Is it the players or the coach? Or is it the club in some broader way? We have tried changing the coach a bunch of times.

We have all seen how good the players can be - our best is really very good. There’s no doubt ample *talent* on the list. The top players are AA quality, for sure. Maybe the bottom end is weak. But the rank and file are - or should be - good enough to deliver better than what they are.

The damning thing is the effort, discipline and execution. I think that’s on everyone: players, coaches and club.

Some players will bring it regardless of coach or club (see Walsh, Samuel). Some players won’t bring it, no matter what (see McGovern, Mitch). The inconsistent, seemingly disorganised efforts that we turn out fall on the coach. But the fact that we’ve seen that from the players under several coaches in a row suggests it’s on the club.

And so I end up back at the top of the loop. I think we have enough good players, but we’re a shit club. A good club would be making a lot more of this list. And a strong club would be weeding out the players on the list who can’t (or won’t) do it, but our club doesn’t. We recruit more of them.

They've been trained by a line coach who was let go half way through the year, and a broader coaching panel who will likely all be gone after the next games. Why don't we see what they're like with some proper coaching?

Why dont we wait and see what Teague is like with some good assistants and a better footy department? Everybody makes excuses for the players when just maybe they either are not good enough or they just lack self drive.

Talent is potential. Both require a workable system, good culture and effort to materialise. Things provided by the club. Ours hasn't provided that well enough which then makes it impossible to know the level of those players you've listed outside the fact that they've, at times, shown their talent but not all the time. A good coach brings that consistency up. Making your list much much shorter. Also a bunch of those are first year or depth, which every club has. So they shouldn't be listed anyway. All clubs have developing groups who aren't walk up starts. That's cause they're developing still.......

People were saying the same about Melbournes list and Richmonds before that and even the swans before that. Talent needs system, effort, buy in and consistency.

A workable system? You can have all the systems in place and at the end of the day it relies on the player wanting to get better. I am sorry but a lot of those players will always remain average players. They have no self drive. Weitering, Walsh, Mckay, Charlie, Owies and even Jones all got better. They got better because of the main ingredient self drive. I mentioned all the first year players to because this the list a coach has to pick from especially when you have injury lists as long as ours. These players turn up 1 week then disappear the next. I think it is time we just be honest and admit the fact our list is nowhere near it.

No extension necessary, seems on par with the clubs fancy AI and ML analysis software that the coaches use for selection and game day changes.

Ross- comments made to a female employee

Pyke- broke players mentally

Voss- complete failure at lions

Clarko- could it be mick Malthouse 2.0?

I don't think Voss would come but his biggest issue was his involvement in the list management (my opinion ) he might never get the chance but he would be make a coach second time round ..
is Ross comments really a point that we can't take him -- can the assistant take over the week we wear the orange socks as symbol of our commitment to the cause ..

Regarding Ross, I’m not sure what line of thinking they will take? I feel with Carlton respects maybe they will steer clear from him? I don’t know..

Why Scott?

Was never rated while at North. All of a sudden he's become a good coach with time off?

Scott took a very average list at north to finals numerous times. He always at the very least had them competitive and playing with heart.

Scott would stick up for his players, never made excuses and demanded respect. We need an alpha coach who sets the tone and doesn’t accept mediocrity. He would also be hungry for success...

I'm thinking of game styles, and passion, and a coach who is willing to work with others. I don't mind some of the things Ross says in analysing play but he's got some serious flaws himself. I'm actually warming to the idea of Brad Scott.

I'm not even going to pretend I know enough about football to differentiate between the two.

Whichever one will bring us #17 is okay with me.

If Java or C/C++ or JavaScript there’d be a parser error for the capital I in your if statement. If JavaScript better to go === 0 too etc ... save some code by defaulting the variables to the else values on declaration and remove the else block.

My preference would be
1- Scott
2-Buckley
3- clarko


Scott and Buckley because they are young and hungry for success. Excellent leaders and have a proven record of getting the best out the team. Buckley took a premiership side, stripped it, made it the way he wanted, got the players to buy in and took them to finals and grand final.

Clarko well obviously he is the best coach over the last 20 years. I do get massive mick Malthouse vibes but could he take another side to the promised land and become the greatest ever?

I’m saying that, Scott and Buckley my preference by a long shot
