Re: Jack Silvagni

Bullshit rumors. Club has a pending agreement with him in place. Likewise a few of our other OOC players (e.g. Kemp).

Club was/is waiting on:

  • Findings of the review (consider findings)
  • Confirmation of head coach in 2022 (take into consideration his opinion)
  • Confirmatio of football department (consider their opinion)
Essentially, there is a soft lock put on formalising new contracts now that we had the most pressing high priority needs sorted (Cripps, McKay).

Other big things could happen this week.

Like all stock traders, inside rail is key.
Few at the presidents lunch offer him more than he could ever offer the club in a directors role.

honorary roles that dont pay are useful if there's something to gain for these types.
We shouldnt excuse him.
He held the position for multiple years, and as such it was incumbent in him to take an interest and show some care.

Its voluntary, and honary, no one forced him to do it

I must admit I had a contrary view 2 months ago and he is soft, but I think LOB is worth persisting with.

He has two skills we lack - great gut runner and very very good kick.

He also looks to play corridor football.

I really hope he doesn't go. LOB stays for mine!

O’Brien over the last 2 years has played 4-5 games whilst Newnes who basically took his spot played 30.
Why on earth would you do that. This is why Teague has to go. He had his favourites and it backfired on him.
Honey has played the last 3 and kicked 6.
It would have been good if he had played 20 or so over the 2 years.
Casboult gifted 2 years.
Took till after the bye to consistently play Kennedy and Dow in the middle.
If the youngsters got more games into them over the last 2 years it would have had us in better shape for next year.
More developed with more games under their belt.
Time to get what we should have got 2 years ago a proper senior coach.

Just wish I could be confident of the integrity around the decision.
Rumoured to be less motivated than big brother, needed some attaboy type coaching and integration in to the group proper. I saw enough from the VFL and scratchies to have confidence in his ability. With our shortage of key position players it was incongruous to jettison our three depth KPD (Ben was/is a swing man). Given the hatchet job on SOS by Liddle and his minions, can we be confident young Ben was not up to it, or was he an easy target?

Do we really think Ben Silvagni was delisted because of his surname?

Really?

Agree with most of that summary but think Honey would not have been ready for as many senior games as you think last season.
Think this season he could have been played a few months earlier but he only into second season on list. Way more concerned how the club failed to develop Dow and O'Brien for nearly 18 months. Newnes has played way too many games at expense of developing those guys. Which is not Newnes fault but is the fault of coaching staff in last two years. Newnes really should have been there on list in times of mass injuries to be depth and be an emergency but these clowns been picking him in team as auotmatic player which was at expense of developing players which way more potential that needed developing.
I virtually would sleep well if all the coaching and development staff were let go and we only retain Luke Power.
CEO and board should be ready to resign on back of them replacing Bolton only with someone from same coaching group and selling it off with Liddle gift of gab ways as the best guy happened to be already here.... Well that has well and truly not proven anything close to a wise decision so for mine, they do not deserve to choose the next coach if they honest with themselves.

If my attitude at 19/20 years of age defined my entire career, I wouldn’t be leading a team of engineers today.

I hear ya. I was getting kicked out of uni when I was 18.

Managed to turn things around in my early 20s and like you am now running my own team of professionals.

Problem is AFL can't wait for these kids to mature in their 20s and 30s and end up turning their lives around.

Every kid who gets drafted has talent. It's a cut-throat business. Someone has to get cut and you aren't doing yourself any favours if you don't have the application/hunger.

Obviously you do your best to motivate and cultivate these kids' potential. But if it's not there, it simply isn't good enough unless the talent is so elite you can make allowances. And even then, that can be destabilising to the club to make those exceptions.

I have no idea about Ben's situation, but in general... If you don't want it enough, you won't make it afl level.

😯 Uni at 18....
**** I was doing year 7 at that age....
sat next to my father....

Just putting this out there but we all know AFL contracts aren't worth the paper they're written on these days...

As a big Teague Train ally and large reason in getting him appointed by unifying the playing group push, could Cripps be considering his options given the pending change of regime?

I think you might find that Cripps' signing came after assurances were given that change was coming.

The problem was Obrien or Dow was not exactly banging the door down in the VFL were they? They should be carving it up there if so exceptional.
Teague does not give contracts to players that is on the list manager so i guess the lack of big men gave him 2 more years.
Honey was going ok but not breaking the door down either.
Kennedy was going ok but then would struggle in the seniors.
The best possible place for guys who has things to work on is in the VFL.
Jones went back to VFL and so did Weiters and it helped them both.
You could also state a case that the time in the VFL has helped the others to.
It is really is a no win situation and can only judge them on their VFL form.
You could also make the case Kennedy and Obrien were on their last legs at the club and that has motivated them to show more. Kennedys last chance to get a contract with us. See it so many times with players out of contract putting in their best year.
I mean your comment seems a bit radical when you are blaming the senior coach for contracts and development when we have clearly employed people to do those jobs.
If you are blaming Teague for lack of development of players then he should also take credit for the development of players right? So you can credit Walsh, McKay, Weitering, Jones and anyone else who has got better in the last few years to Teague.
I think your comments are a bit flawed to be honest.

He’s too concerned with making bank from investments. I thought he’d be a Carlton man for life. Can’t judge him for his pursuits but am disappointed at how he slowly faded into nothing from a clubland perspective..

That's a very simplistic look at things.

He may well have walked away temporarily in frustration at the internal shite show....

Sometimes you need to walk away....

Really?

In part, yes.

They chopped three potential KPDs in one swoop.

Goddard (a plodder), Macreadie (perennially injured) and BSOS (alleged attitude).

We're always told the 'bigs' take longer to develop.

Hugh was 25, and just a little off the pace. Macreadie was into his 4th season (22 odd) could play, but seldom on the park.

Ben was taken in the 4th round of his draft (2018, #70) so hardly costly.

Played two seasons with the 2020 season being heavily compromised.

Might even have grown a bit past his 196cm listing.

So, was given 1 real season + the 1st CV19 season, then axed...he was 20.

Royal Blues....O.R....Shmurf....
Any updates on Clarko? Is the door closed?
Cryptic hints or straight shooting equally welcome
Trying to get mind adjusted to Rossy and currently failing.
Need help.
Horsie.

List sizes were also cut, so something was going to have to give.

Sometimes a player gets delisted because they genuinely just don't deserve a spot, other times they're just the unlucky "next name on the list" when changes are forced.

I think your comments are a bit flawed to be honest.

The opposite also rings true - there are players who were being given games in the seniors in circumstances where their output did not justify their ongoing selection. We have also had two years of the VFL being interrupted and cancelled for prolonged periods due to COVID - i'd say this has significantly stalled development in our players because there's a considerable difference between those makeshift scratch matches as opposed to a full and proper VFL hit out.

If i recall as well, Stocker was not exactly banging down the door week in, week out leading up to his inclusion. But once he got his turn, he has found his feet and not looked back. Sometimes the Club needs to back in their youngsters and give them a decent stint.

Recollection is different from mine, (you may be right though).

Thought Stocker was made to earn it.

Just get him to do what he does best..dont make him what he's not like we have tried with so many on the list. I don't hear people saying libba selwood parker kennedy parish Merritt oliver ect need to go forward and kick goals. Let him be f cripps
This is my thoughts 2019 Cripps was elite
2020 was spent dropping weight and being more athletic. Game was still very contested and thus he lose part of his main strength

2021 was spent putting all the size back on to become that contested beast only for AFL to change to rules last minute to speed the game up.

I have a feeling 2020 Cripps would have been great this year

He’s also been severely hindered by how wide and forward of the ball the coach has the other midfielders spreading. Where he used to win a hard ball and have teammates by his side to hand it to, now he has to win it against multiple opponents then look up and find a teammate that has run a mile in front of him.

This has proven for over a year now to be very hard to get back to defence when it goes wrong and also easy for teams to pulverise us in clearances just by getting numbers close to the ball such as the North Melbourne game (22-9 for centre clearances in North’s favour). Comments by the coach like “we got beaten in the contest” after the Hawks game last year make it sound like the players lowered their colours and doesn’t acknowledge how easy his game plan is to shut down.
